Reborn as the bastard son of a Duke

Adam moved his hand calmly, mana was swirling around the fingertips. There was a faint violet light of spatial energy and it was coalescing all around him.

He then took the stage to command everyone.

"Selena, cover the right side. And Duke, hold the Frontline. We'll make use of your light attribute. And I'll be handling the ones that manage to breakthrough."

And with just one motion, the air around him would shatter like class as it formed a distorted ripple. When the first wolf lunged it was then instantly slice in half, its whole body was disintegrating from the spatial energy.

"It's really terrifying to see this up close," Brad muttered, he summoned earth spikes from the ground to the incoming wolves.

Grace was inhaling deeply, using both her affinities of fire and wind. This created a swirling storm as heated air was tearing through the corrupted beasts like a blazing whirlwind.

"They're still getting stronger!?" She shouted.

Adam just narrowed his yes, he already sensed that something was off. He could also sense that their mana signatures was continuing to rise.

And it wasn't just spreading, it was also amplifying the creatures that were inside the gate.

"Seems like something's feeding them," he muttered as he observed the situation. "And I don't think it's from inside the gate."

Class A's Side

"Reinforce the wall, Mary!" Jake barked like he was the leader as more of the corrupted monsters were clawing their bodies way through the molten wall.

Mary was slamming her staff into the ground, thick walls of stone were erupting all around them. "They just keep coming! Do something, I can't hold the defense much longer!"

Akira acted instantly, flickering in a burst of lightning and sliced through the three corrupted beasts with precision. "These aren't normal C ranks! Their mana is almost near B rank!"

Her brother Damian, landed just besides her, his daggers were spinning. "We'll be overrun at this rate."

"Let's all fall back to higher ground!" Sarah instructed, her staff was glowing as water started to surge outward and pushed back the corruption that was moving relentlessly.

Two people were busy etching some sigils into the dirt, this was Casey and Kain. "We'll stabilize the flow of mana, just give us thirty seconds!"

"Are you kidding me!? Thirty seconds

!? We don't have that long!" Jake was snarling, wind was already erupting from his blade, he changed forward and was busy cleaving through the cluster of corrupted monsters.

But even if one of them fell down, new ones would rise in droves and each of them was stronger, faster and even more powerful than before.

"This isn't normal, this feels deliberate." Simon frowned deeply.

But Akira's eyes just sharpened. "Regardless of this, we'll move on and survive."

On Adam's Team side, they were moving to the center.

They were fighting for several minutes and they were busy making their way towards the center while fighting.

Because of the distortion they had lost communication with the academy, their mana communicators were also jammed.

"There is a lot of interference..." This was Selena, she was busy glancing at her mana device. "This gate is blocking the signal."

"That means no one can come in or out." Duke said, he has a dark expression on his face.

Adam's eyes were glowing briefly as he was scanning the whole area. "Seems there's a group not far from here, it's about two kilometers to the east side."

"That should be Class A," Even said.

"Then we should go towards them. The corruption is still spreading so we should regroup and make a plan." Adam instructed.

But before they could even move, there was a massive pulse of energy that erupted just ahead of them.

There shockwave was too strong that it even cracked the ground open. The light was red, ominous and also heavy.

"It's coming from the center of the gate!" Grace shouted.

"Everyone, stay behind me." Adam said as he body tensed

Inside the fissure, a hulking started to emerged it was twenty meters tall, and it had dark scales, radiating intense hunger.

This was a corrupted orge, and it's body was pulsing with veins that glowed with black energy.

It then roared shaking the whole ruins.

"Everyone, brace for impact!" Duke screamed as he and Selena started to erect barriers in layers of barriers, it was light and water combining.

The orgre came forward and slammed its fish down, it shattered both of the barriers instantly. And the shock wave sent most of the team flying backwards.

"Selena!" Grace yelled, she caught her mid-air with a burst of wind.

Grace and Selena have grown close after these few months, and logically she was worried about her.

Adam was still standing his ground, he wasn't injured or anything and if was his injuries healed in a instant.

He just raised his hand towards the ogre and said:

"Collapse."

The ogre was frozen mid swing, its big body was locked in space but only for a fraction of a second.

"Do it now, Brad!" Adam shouted.

Brad acted, he gritted his teeth and slammed both of his hands into the ground.

"Let's go, earth burst!"

The ground beneath the robe became to explode up, there was jagged spikes that pierced through the creatures abdomen.

It roared once more and it was thrashing widely but Adam was still focused and wouldn't let his guard down.

Vanishing in a blur.

There was a sharp crack that echoed. This was the red ogre's head which imploded suddenly, the space was folding into itself just for a brief instant before it suddenly expanded outward.

It's massive corpse fell down in a thunderous crash, shaking the earth itself.

All others who stood there were speechless.

"I almost thought I caught up with you but—" Grace slowly exhaled, but Adam cut her off.

"I know you have gotten a lot stronger," he said, turning his head towards her revealing a faint smile. "But it won't end with just this. We gotta move. If we stay in one place we'll get surrounded sooner or later."

Kyrexis's Observation.

There was a shadowed ritual chamber that was beneath the academy, and a hooded figure was kneeling infront of a floating crimson crystal that was projecting some faint images from the gate itself.

This showed Adam and the others who were busy fighting against the horde of corrupted monsters.

"Ah, so this is him," one of them whispered. "The one we were informed to have ancient energy."

"Indeed, I can feel the dragon resonance leaking from his body." Another joined in, his voice was low and also raspy. "Kyrexis will be pleased with what we'll tell them."

The leader of this group of cultists raised his hand. "We should relay this information to the second envoy. I'm sure Prince Cedric will want confirmation."

The was a shin smile that crept beneath the hood, after the mentioning of that name.

Meanwhile In The Palace

It was in a secluded chamber that was within the royal palace. There Cedric was standing near a mana crystal, it was glowing and reflecting against his sharp features.

"Seems like the corruption has started." He said. "The gate incident will be the perfect cover story."

There was a man who was in black armor kneeling before him. "What are your orders, my prince?"

Cedric's eyes started to gleam faintly. "You must make sure he doesn't leave the gate alive. There should be no traced. And now witnesses."

"As you command my prince." The man then bowed his head.

Cedric turned away, but the corner of his lips had lifted slightly.

"Now... let's see how long your luck will last, Adam."

Meanwhile Adam's side.

They were all able to hide in a cave like area waiting for the corruption wave to end before they decided to move forward.

They all knew that they wouldn't be able to finish this dungeon gate in a single day at this case it would take 2-5 days at this rate.

"Everyone let's all take a break, and then we'll decide how to talk this." Adam said, "we'll meet up with Class A for this, this is no longer a test we are fighting to survive."

Everyone nodded and they understood, Grace made a fire to keep themselves warm during the night.

While Adam volunteered to keep watch for the first night, he did feel tired at all and he also wanted to check his system so he can prepare.

"I need to breakthrough if I need to tackle these monsters, and I should also allocate more of my stats." He muttered to himself.
