Chapter 20: A Demon's Heart.
Dean was anxious, he constantly was tapping his foot annoyed as he watched the TV's soccer game.
His dad and Bobby kicked him out of the living room because he was being to distracting when it came to searching for the Colt.
And could they honestly blame him? He's the oldest, he's supposed to take care of his younger brothers yet both are God knows where doing God knows what.
Dean tapped his foot harder and harder till he with a grunt of frustration rose from the bed he was sitting on, picket up his leather jacket and the Gun and went downstairs.
"Where are you going?" Ruby suddenly asked him as she was leaning against the side of the front door of the house.
"Out, I'm going to go for a supply run." Dean responded as he tried to walk past her to no avail as she roughly pushed him back.
"The hell? What's your problem?" Dean questioned annoyed and angry.
"Sam told you to stay put till he got back."
"So? Sam's not the boss of me sweetheart."
"I beg to differ, because last I checked, your daddy gave the okay for Sam to lead the team, or am I wrong?" Ruby countered.
"Yeah well, Sam's not here right now and I'm not in the mood to do nothing, so get the fuck out of my way bitch," Dean stated angrily as he tried to push Ruby out of the way to no avail as she was physically far stronger than him as a demon.
Dean let out a small huff of pain as she roughly pinned him to the wall by the scruff of his shirt.
"Now you listen here you arrogant asshole, Sam is the man I love and I'd rather be once more put back in Hell under those bitches than tell him that you left on my watch and became some demon's chew toy. So stay put and-" Dean suddenly pulled out the Gun and put it under Ruby's chin.
"I can actually take care of myself as you see and I'll be damned before I take orders from some demonic bitch. Now let go before I have to explain to Sam why I had to throw away his drink," Dean ordered, sternly, his voice not hiding the venom in it towards Ruby.
"The fuck is your problem?" Ruby hissed angrily. "Why can't you just stay put and do as you're told?"
"Oh, I don't know, maybe it's because my brothers who are my responsibility are probably doing something stupid right now without me there to take care of them!"
"They have Castiel, he's an angel, and Sam is far from weak. He's stronger than you could possibly know." Ruby retorted.
"That supposed to make me feel better? That they're with some unknown creature and that Sammy has now to take care of himself and Adam when I'm the one that should be out there? Now, enough with this, get out of the way or I'm gonna shoot." Dean threatened.
"You wouldn't dare, Sam would never forgive you," Ruby countered, though a hint of fear was in her eyes.
"I'm his brother, the one who raised him. You think he could possibly care more for you than he does me?" Dean retorted coldly.
At this Ruby finally let go and backed away, though Dean still had his Gun aimed at her.
"Fine, you can go, but I'm coming with," Ruby suddenly stated.
"What?"
"You think you could possibly find Sam alone? Besides, it's best I am with you in case things go badly. If I die then at least Sam could revive me eventually from wherever demons go.
You though, if you die, the angels will then know all our plans once you enter Heaven and then we'll all be screwed." Ruby stated.
"Sam can do that? Revive you demons -- Dean snaps his fingers -- just like that?" Dean questioned, not knowing whether to find that impressive or horrifying.
"Dean, Sam can do anything and I mean anything once his full potential is realized. Reviving demons is just comes with the package of him being who he is, who he is meant to be."
"Oh, yeah? And who is Sam other than my brother, because last I checked Ruby he wasn't some glorified dark overlord," Dean hissed coldly, not liking her insinuation of Sam being anything else than what is most important to Dean -- his little brother.
"Okay, Dean, make up your mind. Are you gonna stand here with that demon killing gun pointed at me still or are we going to go to Sam?" Ruby questioned, frustrated and annoyed at Dean.
"Fine," Dean began with a huff, "But make no mistake, I still don't trust you. Not really," Dean stated as he put the Gun away and walked past her out of the door, Ruby a moment later following after him.
"Hey, dumbass, have you forgotten that Sam has taken the impala?" Ruby called out to him as she saw him stand in confusion outside, looking everywhere, panic being apparent in his posture.
"Of- Of course, I didn't forget!" Dean sputtered, angry and embarressed at Ruby mocking him.
"Sure you didn't. Don't worry, I swiped John's keys a while ago in case this happened." Ruby told him as she threw them at him with him barely catching them from surprise and the painful force Ruby put in it as payback for threatening her.
"Wait, you knew I'd do this?" Dean questioned surprised.
"Of course I did, you bastard. Well at least you possibly convincing me to help you. What I didn't expect though was that you'd be psycho enough to threaten to kill your future sister-in-law." Ruby explained, annoyed as she then beckoned him to open the Truck so that they both can get in.
Ruby chose the backseat not wanting to be next to Dean, who of course was the driver.
Before Dean could start the car Ruby threw him a phone, which Dean barely caught, "The path that will lead us to Sam is on that. Sam and I fused magic with technology as demons are old school and haven't yet been as up with the times.
Well, the bottom feeders, Azazel though would most definitely do his best to drink up any knowledge he can get, but Sam and I have already taken our precautions against that."
"When did you both even have the time for this?" Dean questioned as he started up the car, beginning to drive along the path shown on the device.
Ruby became silent at the question.
After a while of silence Dean became confused, did he ask something wrong.
"Tell me Dean, how much do you truly understand about us demons?" Ruby suddenly questioned.
Dean was confused at the question, "I know you guys were once human. Most of you the scum of the earth, while some poor sons of bitches who decided to make -- and I know this rich from me knowing what I would've done -- selfish and stupid deals to bring someone they love back.
You are all stupid powerful too, if there is anything besides that, then I don't know." Dean stated as his eyes minutely glanced from the side at Ruby, while still focusing on the road.
"Summarised, yeah, that is in essence what we are Dean, but that isn't everything. Demons... We, Dean, were made by Lucifer for one reason, and one only - well, less reason, more person.
We were made for Sam. And before you fly into a rage of denial listen to what I have to say, because I'm opening my heart right now to you asshole, to gain some understanding between us as you'll be my future brother-in-law If we survive this shit show."
Dean hearing her words clenched the steering wheel hard, till his knuckles turned pale, but forced himself to remain silent and listen.
"I won't bore you with story time, but in essence it is that Lucifer didn't hate humans for what they were. In fact he found you all fucking beautiful, a work of art, but that is when in conjunction with angels being at the helm and you all as support or at least equals.
What he had a problem with was that he had to lower himself to all of you and not have what you have.
That's why he rebelled, why he planned, and how the perfect vessel thing came to be.
I actually have hidden this part very well within my memories, that I doubt even Sam has been able to find it. It's just too... I don't know, not personal, but vulnerable.
Sometimes... Sometimes I don't think I'm worthy of him Dean. We demons were made to- to, essentially be like the fire that burns away the impurities of iron.
To be something that strengthens him, makes him what he is supposed to be as Lucifer's other half, his equal.
Sam and him are just like what you humans have ascribed to Yahweh, with Jesus, calling him the Son of God and what not.
Just like you, are made from Michael's grace, so is Sam made from Lucifer's. They are your Divine selves and you the mortal ones.
The plan had always been that once Sam says yes, they would coexist as- as equals. They are essentially to us demons the two halves of our god.
And tell me Dean, could you possibly fathom what it is like to be showered with love and affection by the one you see as divine?
To be loved so much? It- its overwhelming, Dean.
To- to be taken as a- a wife by him. That whole relationship is something that is supposed to be between equals, but how can I possibly see myself as an equal to my own god?" Ruby stated and throughout all this Dean remained silent, even speechless.
He didn't like Ruby, not since the moment he found out she was a demon, because you know, she's a freaking demon!
Demons aren't supposed to be able to love others, or be kind, or any other good characteristic.
They're supposed to be supernatural pieces of crap whose only difference between them and others is the size of their egos!
Yet now... Yet with Ruby, it seems... It seems she truly does love Sam. Which Dean doesn't know what to do with.
"I was specifically made for him you know. Just like Eve was made for Adam so did Hell decide to offer their god a person who could be at his side before becoming one with his divine self.
I was their gift.
I was... I was just a orphan girl in the past Dean. The memories are blurry, but I think it was somewhere in the 18th century.
My sister was sick and I foolishly made a deal for magic to be able to heal her.
What was peculiar was that I was besides my soul, a clause was that I retained my purity, and in exchange, I will not be cut apart on the rack under Alistair's knife.
So, a decade later, after healing my sister, who not even two years later was eaten by hungry wolves, I was dragged by Hellhounds into the Pit.
There I was given to Lilith and her succubus slaves. I was trained by them, they fed me all their memories, teaching me every sexual act a man could possibly desire alongside everything one needed to know to be able to seduce a man. All so that I could bring Sam to his destiny.
And before you say anything, the irony doesn't escape me that Sam is the one who seduced me to his side.
But I suppose that's what you get when going against a god, right? Gods arent something lesser beings such as us can possibly control." Ruby stated with a huff.
"Ruby... Why are you telling me all this?" Dean suddenly questioned.
"Because I want you to trust me, Dean. I don't want to always look over my shoulder everytime, preparing myself for the moment you decide to put a bullet in my head and get it over with.
I know Sam will always value you above me, and won't be too broken up about my death, but I still can't allow it Dean. I need to be of use to Sam, it's what I was made for, it is all I know.
Death is separation from Sam, and I'd rather talk about disgusting, human feelings with you, throw away my pride by showing you a vulnerable side of myself than to ever be separated from Sam. Do you understand me?" Ruby questioned seriously.
Dean thinking about how far he would go for Sam, and how he would burn the world himself to ash and do the Michael Jackson dance on top of it, if it meant that Sam would always be safe and happy, understood, he really did.
"Yeah... Yeah, I guess I do." Dean answered and as he did, they finally arrived at their destination.
They spoke no more words as they got out of the car, going to the one person that they would sacrifice everything for.
