reborn as Sakumo Hatake

Chapter 15: ### **Chapter 15: A Storm Approaches**

The days that followed Sakumo's return to Konoha were fraught with tension. The village seemed to hold its breath, as if anticipating the storm that Sakumo had learned was about to strike. The masked figures had targeted him specifically, but in doing so, they had unknowingly revealed their true intentions—to bring Konoha to its knees.

Sakumo spent every waking moment preparing for the worst. He met with Hiruzen, Danzo, and the village's highest-ranking shinobi to strategize. They couldn't afford to underestimate the masked figures. Everything pointed to the fact that they had already infiltrated Konoha's closest allies and were poised to strike from multiple directions at once.

---

The Hokage's office had become a war room. Maps were spread across the table, each one marking vital positions of both Konoha's defenses and the masked figures' suspected hideouts. Sakumo stood over the map, his finger tracing the various lines of communication between the villages—every route, every connection that could be used against them.

"We've already reinforced the borders," Hiruzen said, his tone steady but filled with urgency. "But they could still come from within."

Sakumo glanced at Danzo, who had remained quiet throughout the meeting, his steely eyes fixed on the map. Danzo's hand hovered over a region near the Land of Water, a location Sakumo had recently encountered.

"They could have agents within our ranks," Danzo finally spoke, his voice cold. "If they're targeting you, Sakumo, it means they have already planted seeds of chaos in Konoha."

Sakumo's mind raced. The masked figures had been operating with terrifying precision, pulling strings from the shadows. There had to be a leak somewhere—someone close to the village, feeding information back to them.

"We need to find that leak before they can strike," Sakumo said, his voice grave. "Otherwise, we'll be fighting shadows we can't even see."

Hiruzen nodded in agreement. "Agreed. We'll begin an internal investigation, but we need to move quickly. They're planning something, and it's not just about Konoha. We're looking at a coordinated attack across the entire shinobi world."

Sakumo's eyes narrowed. "If they're trying to bring Konoha down, they'll come for me first. I've seen how they operate."

Danzo leaned forward, his voice sharp. "If they do, we'll be ready for them."

Sakumo didn't respond immediately. He had an uneasy feeling gnawing at him. There was something more to this than just a personal vendetta. The masked figures were playing a larger game, one that spanned the borders of every village. They weren't just after Konoha's fall; they wanted the entire shinobi system to burn.

---

That night, Sakumo couldn't sleep. His mind was clouded with thoughts of the masked figures—their plans, their motives, and their reach. He couldn't ignore the feeling that he was being watched. Every shadow seemed to whisper, every movement felt like a trap.

But he couldn't afford to hesitate. He had to act before they made their move.

---

Sakumo's instincts led him to a quiet corner of the village, far from the bustling streets. The small alley he entered was unremarkable at first glance, but Sakumo knew better. He had seen this before: a subtle shift in the air, an uncanny sense of quiet. It was too perfect, too still.

As he walked deeper into the alley, a figure emerged from the darkness. A familiar figure, their face obscured by a mask.

"I knew you'd find me," the figure said, their voice muffled by the mask, but unmistakable.

Sakumo's hand instinctively reached for his tanto, but he remained still. He had encountered this figure before—the one who had spoken of reshaping the shinobi world.

"What do you want?" Sakumo demanded, his voice low and steady.

The figure chuckled darkly. "What I want? You already know. You've seen our vision. You've felt the pulse of change. We are the future, Sakumo Hatake. The old system is weak, fragile. Konoha is just the first domino to fall. Once you're gone, the others will follow."

Sakumo's eyes flashed with realization. "You're after more than just Konoha. You want to bring down the entire shinobi system."

The figure didn't deny it. "Correct. The villages have become stagnant, corrupted by their own traditions and power struggles. We will be the ones to forge a new world, a world where we control the flow of power."

Sakumo took a step forward, his resolve hardening. "You'll never get away with it. Konoha will never fall to your twisted vision."

"You're wrong, Sakumo," the masked figure said. "It's already begun. The wheels are in motion. And when the time comes, you'll be nothing more than a forgotten memory."

The figure's voice took on a sinister edge. "But you don't have to die alone. You can join us. You can be part of the new world we create."

Sakumo's eyes burned with fury. "I'll never betray my village."

Before the figure could respond, Sakumo lunged forward, drawing his tanto in a flash. The figure vanished in a blur of motion, and Sakumo's blade met nothing but air.

The figure's laugh echoed in the dark alley as their form reappeared in the shadows. "You'll regret that decision. This is far from over."

Sakumo clenched his jaw. He knew the masked figure was right about one thing—it wasn't over. The masked faction had already set their plan into motion, and it was only a matter of time before they struck.

But Sakumo refused to let fear control him. He was the White Fang. He would protect Konoha. He would stop them—no matter the cost.

---

The following day, the atmosphere in Konoha grew even more tense. Sakumo could feel the weight of the coming conflict pressing down on everyone, but he refused to let his doubts show. If the masked figures had truly infiltrated Konoha, the first thing they'd do was target those closest to the Hokage.

Sakumo stood at Hiruzen's side, scanning the village from the Hokage's balcony. He was preparing for the worst. There would be no easy way to fight back. The masked figures had allies in other villages, and their reach extended far beyond Konoha.

But one thing was certain: he would not let them destroy the village he swore to protect.

"We've prepared the defenses," Hiruzen said, his voice steady despite the weight of the situation. "But I fear it may not be enough."

Sakumo turned to face him, his eyes filled with determination. "Then we fight. Together."

Hiruzen gave him a grim smile. "I knew I could count on you."

---

As the day wore on, the feeling of unease lingered over Konoha. Sakumo knew the storm was coming. He just hoped they could weather it before it tore everything apart.
