Reborn as Lucas : TBATE FanFic

Chapter 41: Chapter 41

As Lucas stepped closer, the space between us dwindled to just an arm's length. My breath came in shallow, quick gasps, and I could feel the tension radiating between us. He stopped, his amused smile never wavering, and asked, "So, which city do you live in—Xyrus?"

I tried to calm my racing heart, but it was no use. Each breath felt heavier than the last, my chest rising and falling more rapidly. I wondered if he could hear it, the way my breath was ragged and uneven. What the hell is this situation?

"Valden City," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. I wasn't sure if he could even hear me, but he nodded, as if satisfied with my answer. His eyes gleamed with that same, unsettling amusement, and I couldn't help but glance to my left, searching for an escape.

But just as I was about to step away, Lucas planted his hand firmly on the wall beside my head, blocking my path. I felt like a cornered mouse, small and vulnerable beneath his towering presence.

My head hung low, my face burning with embarrassment as blood rushed to my cheeks. This was too much—my heart pounded in my chest, and I wondered if I might faint from the intensity of it all.

His scent, now that he was so close, was intoxicating. It filled my senses, making my head spin.

He leaned in closer, the fabric of his uniform brushing against mine, and I could feel his legs just barely grazing my own.

My hands clenched the hem of my shirt near my crouch, trying to pull it down as if that would somehow shield me from his overwhelming presence.

Then he spoke, his voice low and commanding, his breath warm against my skin, "Veronica De Sade."

Hearing him say my name like that—so intimately, so possessively—sent a shiver down my spine. I could barely look at him, my vision swimming as the intensity of the moment threatened to overwhelm me.

Lucas gently grasped my chin, tilting my head up so that our eyes met. His dull emerald eyes bore into mine, scrutinizing every inch of my face as if trying to read my thoughts. Then, with a calmness that contrasted sharply with the turmoil in my chest, he said, "I like you."

The words hit me like a bolt of lightning. My entire body froze as my heart went into overdrive, pounding so hard that it echoed in my ears.

I stared at him, dumbfounded, unable to process what he had just said. My skin burned, not just on my face but all over, as if his confession had set me ablaze from the inside out.

Seeing my reaction, Lucas's expression softened. He placed a hand on my forehead, his brow furrowing in concern as if he were checking me for a fever.

His touch was gentle, but it only made the heat in my body intensify. I could barely register what was happening as he turned away from me and called out to Iris, who I now noticed was staring at us with wide eyes, just as dumbfounded as I felt. Arthur stood beside her, wearing a similarly shocked expression.

"Oye, girl, get her to the infirmary," Lucas yelled, his voice carrying a note of urgency.

The concern in his eyes was clear, and for a moment, the playful, teasing demeanor he'd shown earlier was gone, replaced by genuine worry.

Iris quickly snapped out of her daze and rushed over, her own concern evident as she grabbed my arm to steady me.

My legs felt weak, my body still reeling from the whirlwind of emotions, and I leaned on her for support as she began to lead me away.

Arthur's POV:-

As I watched Lucas cornering the girl—Veronica, I think her name was—I couldn't help but wonder if I'd made a mistake. "Yo bro, don't make me regret listening to you," I thought, my eyes narrowing as I saw the scene unfold.

Lucas was practically pinning her against the wall, his hand braced against it, trapping her in place. The whole setup was more intense than I'd expected.

I glanced over at Iris, her fiery red hair catching the light in a way that made her seem even more imposing. Trying to play it cool, I scratched my chin and gave her my best innocent look.

"Will you stay here for a bit? He's just talking to her," I said, trying to sound nonchalant. To my surprise, she seemed to buy it, her stern expression softening just a little. Maybe my princely charms were working after all.

But then, when I turned my attention back to Lucas, I was dumbfounded.

He leaned in close to Veronica, his voice dropping to a cold, serious tone. "I like you," he said, and I nearly choked on air. *What the hell, bro? You're not supposed to confess right away! You gotta wait! * I thought, facepalming as I tried to process what I'd just witnessed.

I looked back at Iris, who was staring at Lucas with wide eyes, her own expression mirroring the shock I felt.

Lucas, who'd been so composed a second ago, suddenly turned to us, his face etched with concern. "Get her to the infirmary," he yelled, his tone urgent.

Iris didn't hesitate. She moved quickly to Veronica, helping her up and shooting Lucas a look that was... well, intense, to say the least. It was the kind of gaze that made me wonder if maybe I should back off a little. As Iris led Veronica away, I couldn't help but notice how red Lucas's ears had become, a stark contrast to his earlier bravado.

Once they were out of sight, Lucas squatted down, burying his head in his hands. His ears were practically glowing, and now even his face had taken on a red hue.

He looked completely flustered, like a kid who'd just realized he might've gone a bit too far.

"Bro, where the hell did you learn to confess like that?" I asked, staring at Lucas who was squatting down, his hands clutching his head as if he was trying to crush his own skull.

It was like he was regretting every decision he'd made in the last five minutes.

He groaned, releasing the pressure on his head, and muttered, "Bro... cocaine." His voice was low, almost a whisper, and it caught me off guard.

I blinked, completely lost. "What?"

Lucas lifted his head slightly, his face still flushed as he spoke with dead seriousness. "Bro, she's walking and talking cocaine. Pure cocaine."

I just stared at him, still not fully understanding what he was getting at. Lucas stood up slowly, looking like he'd just run a marathon, but with that same dazed expression on his face.

Whatever had just happened, it had clearly messed with him more than he was letting on.

Lucas's eyes darkened, a murderous edge creeping into his gaze. "Who were the ones messing with her?" he asked, his voice cold and sharp. I could feel the shift in the atmosphere, my own demeanor turning serious in response. But before I could answer, the tension was interrupted by the arrival of an another person.

It was Tessia.

Tessia's eyes scanned the scene, her expression unreadable.
