Chapter 111: The Fight In The Soul Sea [1]
Kai had a lot he had to do before the day ended. Unlike the previous days he had spent in Reni's soul sea, today he didn't have the luxury to play around or be romantic.
Just as Reni had mentioned yesterday, it was about time for them to leave this world and return to the outside world.
Perhaps due to romance, he had become too swept up in everything and had forgotten he had limited time to leave this place, especially since he didn't know how much time had passed in the outside world.
"Looks like I'm right on time." The voice of Hari snapped Kai out of his thoughts as he folded his arms, his gaze shifting to the door they had entered from.
"Actually, you're late," he said with a frown.
Seeing his cousin and best friend holding hands and entering a room was still strange, and he still felt like punching Matt in the face.
But since Hari had made the decision herself and said she would explain later, he didn't argue.
Matt, Reni, and Hari were now present at the meeting being held in the Japanese hotel Kai had previously stayed in.
"So how much information did you gather?" Kai asked, leaning his arm on the kotatsu, which also served as their heater.
Hari and Matt sat on the floor across from Kai and Reni.
After sitting down, Hari pulled a chip from her pocket and placed it on the table. She tapped it twice, and the chip activated, displaying a hologram of the full map of the soul sea.
Kai smiled, his eyes quickly scanning every single District. "Did you find out what I asked you to?"
Hari nodded. "All the first-year teachers and students were indeed inside the soul sea, and just like you said, they had no memory of who they were."
Reni, dressed in a white nightgown, spoke up. "I think that most likely has to do with what all of us share in common."
Everyone in the room didn't need to be told to understand she was referring to "divine connection."
One way or another, each and every one of them had a connection to Divinity—even if Amy, who was also part of the group was added, it would still remain the same.
Kai shifted his gaze from Reni back to the map.
After much contemplation and repeatedly seeing this world through clairvoyance, Kai was able to formulate a simple strategy, but whether it would work or not depended on the strength of both his team and his classmates.
'I can leave arranging the students to Professor Simba and Professor Kylie. Matt can handle the brunt work. As for me…' Kai's gaze, which had been filled with vigor all this time, turned dark. 'I have to kill whatever is behind that door, but first I must subdue the Star of Ruin.'
Reni leaned her arm on the table. "I think it would be best if Husband opens the gate to my inner mind first."
Kai raised a brow. "Why is that?"
Reni pointed at the map. "According to your plan, you want to divide the forces of the Archaians that would appear when you open the door and allow the academy students—whose memories you would have restored—to fight them. After defeating them, you plan to enter my inner mind."
Kai nodded.
"But you know, if one part of this plan fails, then we're done for." She interlocked her fingers. "What if, just like we read in the hall, we have to undergo all those trials? Wouldn't that ruin the plan?"
'She is right.'
Kai's initial plan was to open the large door, and while he fought whatever was sealed inside, the rest of his team would fend off the trapped Archaians. Then, once the battle was over, he could enter Reni's mind.
However, if any part of that plan failed, or if there was a trial inside her inner mind—then he would likely fail, and everyone would perish.
But if he chose the alternative and entered her mind first, there was still the risk of memory loss. Since he, the knight, was connected to this world, losing his memory—or worse, dying—would surely release the demon inside the door, which only he could defeat.
Yet, looking at Reni's expression, Kai couldn't help but weigh her plan against his own. Both were undeniably dangerous, but her confidence in hers made him consider giving it a try.
Hopefully, nothing catastrophically bad would happen if they took that path.
Kai took a deep breath, absorbing the plan and attempting to envision multiple outcomes in his mind.
As long as there was a path to victory, then it was worth at least trying.
"So what now?" Matt, who had been keeping to himself, asked.
Hari waited for Kai to respond, but seeing that he was deep in thought, she answered in his place. "We'll move this evening. Oppa will enter the princess's soul sea, while I try to bring all our classmates back using my weaver ability."
She glanced at Kai again. "If Oppa survives, he'll retrieve Reni's fragment, and the only thing left will be to defeat the Archaians. However, I think the Archaians will attack before he gets the chance to open the gate."
The princess nodded in approval. "I believe what Kim Ha-rin said is true. I doubt the Archaians who serve the Mad King would sit idly and watch someone seize his inheritance, even if it's just that of his pet."
Kai opened his eyes slowly. "I know what's going to happen in the inner world."
Hari's, Matt's, and Reni's eyes widened. "You do?"
Kai nodded. "I'm not quite sure… However, I think I should begin preparations."
He stood from where he sat. After taking a few steps away from them, he turned back. "You guys know the plan, right?"
They nodded.
"Then let's wish each other the best of luck."
As he turned his head back, his expression darkened. 'I'm going to beat the fuck out of some gods.'
