Chapter 24: 24 The Edge of Fate
The blinding light gradually faded, and Shen Yuchen's figure vanished from the ancient altar. The cavernous chamber fell into eerie silence, broken only by the lingering echoes of ancient, resonant vibrations, as if marking the beginning of another cycle of destiny.
Su Wanning stood frozen, her energy dagger trembling in her tight grip. A profound sense of helplessness surged within her.
"Where did you take him?!" she demanded coldly, her voice trembling with anger and desperation as she glared at Lin Xinyi.
Lin Xinyi slowly wiped the tear from her face, regaining her composed expression. "He has gone where he is meant to be—a place where truth and destiny await him."
"Destiny?" Su Wanning scoffed bitterly. "All you've done is manipulate him! Your so-called destiny is nothing but a path leading straight into the abyss!"
Lin Xinyi's gaze softened with a trace of sadness before turning resolute again. "If he cannot face his destiny, he cannot change it. You may not understand now, but one day, you will see what his existence truly means."
Su Wanning let out a sharp laugh. "Your lofty words make this sound poetic, but I won't let you get away with it!"
Suddenly, the ground trembled, and glowing runes spread rapidly across the ancient stone walls, pulsing with a primal, intimidating energy.
Lin Xinyi's expression turned serious. "You must leave. The seal is breaking."
"You expect me to trust you?" Su Wanning retorted, her eyes filled with distrust.
"If you stay, you'll be a sacrifice!" Lin Xinyi snapped, her voice more commanding than ever.
Before Su Wanning could argue, the ground cracked open beneath her feet. A powerful gravitational force dragged her toward the abyss's edge. She stumbled, barely managing to keep from falling in.
With a swift motion, Lin Xinyi summoned a radiant energy blade, striking the ground and temporarily sealing the fissure.
"Go!" she ordered sharply. "This place is collapsing!"
Su Wanning hesitated, her eyes conflicted, but she ultimately clenched her teeth and sprinted toward the passageway.
Meanwhile, elsewhere—
Shen Yuchen slowly opened his eyes, finding himself standing in an endless void. The world around him seemed surreal and ethereal, suspended between reality and illusion.
"Where am I?" he muttered warily, scanning his surroundings with heightened alertness.
Suddenly, a calm yet authoritative voice echoed around him: "Welcome to the Edge of Fate, Child of Destiny."
Shen Yuchen spun around and saw a tall man in a silver robe approaching with measured steps. His chiseled features radiated an imposing presence, and his deep, piercing eyes seemed to see through everything.
"Who are you?" Shen Yuchen demanded.
The man raised a hand, and shimmering images materialized in the void—visions from Shen Yuchen's distant, forgotten past.
"I am the Guide of Fate. Your past, your future, and even your present have long been entwined in the web of destiny."
On the flickering screen, Shen Yuchen saw fragmented memories: a younger version of himself, guarded heavily but surrounded by cold technology. His parents were nowhere in sight—only layers of defense and surveillance systems.
"These memories…" he whispered, clutching his head as a sharp pain seared through his mind.
"You weren't meant to remember," the man continued solemnly. "But the wheel of fate has turned again, drawing you back into its fold."
Shen Yuchen clenched his fists, his gaze burning with defiance. "Why me? Why was I chosen?"
The man's expression softened slightly. "Because only you have the power to break destiny's chains."
Before Shen Yuchen could respond, the shimmering visions violently distorted as an unknown force surged against the boundary of the space.
The man's expression darkened. "There's no time. Your trial has already begun. If you wish to protect what matters most, you must awaken your true power."
As he spoke, a crimson fissure ripped through the void, exuding a suffocating, sinister energy.
"Fate… whose game is it really?" Shen Yuchen took a deep breath, lifting his gaze with newfound determination and defiance.
The crimson rift widened, and as light and shadow intertwined, his figure disappeared into the unknown, marching toward the heart of an uncertain destiny.
