Reborn as a villain extra

Chapter 3: Elizabeth

[Fiery Snake, District 77, Undercity]

The fiery snake. It was a very nice bar. Up to 100 people could sit, drink and eat in this place. There was a big fire chimney in the back, providing some warmth in the cold winter. Behind the counter, hundreds of pricey bottles hanged. Miners, mercenaries, enforcers who just finished their shifts and rats who had stolen enough coins to afford a meal would come here on a regular basis

Although this myriad of people would never get along, they knew better than to break a fight. Elizabeth was no average person, and rumours said that she was a terrifying witch.

As I arrived with the rest of the poison ives, the people looked at us with different expressions. Enforcers squinted, aware that we were awakened and history showed repeatedly that the [Poison Ives], under my leadership, was a growing source of troubles. Fortunately enough, there was Elizabeth vouching for us.

[Elizabeth (?) - Level 16 Sorceress]

Sorcerers were arcane mages, though it was a more advanced rank. Every ten levels, awakened could upgrade their class, which came with a specialization and bonuses. Knights would receive a bonus in weapon mastery, snipers would gain access to a wide variety of long-range weapons and so on. Sorcerers specialized in curses and black magic.

Miners did anything to avoid our gaze, wanting to avoid us at all costs, having heard the rumours of our previous "errands".

The [Fiery Snake] was our territory, and it showed.

Elizabeth signaled us to go upstairs, her fake smile having conquered the heart of many already. However, she could not fool me. Anyone using awakened children had a heart of stone. Her own daughter, Elise, was sent on those dangerous missions.

"How did you mission go?", she immediately asked, noticing the trace of nausea on the faces of her daughter and the others

"We killed the ghoul", I answered apathetically

Elizabeth titled her head: "Oh my...I indeed asked to take care of him, but I did not think you would go as far as to kill him"

It was not a reproach, just a mild amusement at my lack of humanity. To kill before being an adult, now that was a feat, even for a rat from the undercity.

"Well, if you think about it, that loses you one client who does not pay, and will improve the payment rate of those who planned not to pay. Not a bad trade off, don't you think?"

"Indeed, this was a smart move. I do have a few more targets in mind, since you are capable of such...feats. But let's wait a bit so as not to alarm the enforcers. I suppose you are starving, aren't you, my children?"

The mention of us being her children should make me a bit sick, knowing how vile she was. Yet, I liked the warmth she gave us. If anything, she was protective of us, provided us with shelter and food when we needed it most. She indeed was a mother, in that sense. Strength and cruelty, in the undercity, were necessary to have that.

"I will shower first", Elise spat, still shaken by the events

Braum merely nodded, followed by Bertha too. Leon took his pack of arcane cigarettes and went upstairs without a word, disliking my new arrival obviously. However, I cared little about what he thought. Leon was replaceable after all, should he cross the line.

"I will go downstairs and train for a while", I said politely

"I put your shares of the mission in the dormitory. Greem, stay here, I have something to ask you"

[You have completed the E-rank mission [Deal with Hughes, the broke ghoul]. You have received 5 Prism coins. You have received 100 EXP]

I squinted my eyes. No private meetings with Elizabeth ended without an additional burden

"I have another mission for you, but I don't know if you are ready", Elizabeth said seriously

"A mission for me? Not the poison ives?"

"Well, for some reason, you don't look like you come from the streets. You mentioned you have no memories of the past, and that could be the reason for that. But you received education. You speak well, you have charm and more importantly, you know your place. I wish my daughter had half the cold blood you have"

"This must be the first time I hear praises from you. What's the catch?"

"50 Prism coins, and an arcane elixir. Is it enough to raise your interest?", she said with a knowing smile, knowing fully that I valued elixir more than anything. "Elixir Junkie", the others called me

"Indeed, I would gladly take that mission, but if that's too dangerous, I must refuse", I answered curtly

"Well, you see, I need someone to pay a visit to an old friend. Though I usually ask Braum who has been with me the longest, he is not the quiet and nimble type. You are", she said, "He is located in district 79, a few miles from here. Let's say he has some strange tastes and lives in a laboratory. I sent his location on your chip"

"You want me to become a courier for your [Ether]?"

Elizabeth kissed me on the forehead: "I love children who understand quickly"

[Courier of the Fiery Snake - E-rank Mission (Chain Quest)

Elizabeth has chosen to give you more responsibility and tasks, after you outperformed in the last few errands. She has thus asked you to supply her with a new batch of [Ether], the newest drug in the district, bringing much profit. The location has been marked on the minimap.

Reward: 100 EXP, 50 Prism Coins, Arcane Elixir

Optional Task: Earn acknowledgement from Acteon, the laboratory chemist]

Elizabeth was dangerous. However, the mission was just E-rank, the pay was good. There was no reason to refuse. I nodded and went downstairs.

I had just leveled up.
