Chapter 422: No Nepotism in Employment
Zeng Weiguo could also see Fang Pingying's embarrassment, so he said, "Xiao Fang, I naturally trust you and Zhiyong's character, otherwise I wouldn't have agreed to partner with you to open such a big supermarket. However, it's better to clear some things up first to avoid any issues later."
Upon hearing this, Juzi glared at Zeng Weiguo and complained, "Uncle, you're always the one making trouble. Every family has its peculiar members, having one doesn't mean everyone else is the same. Don't you even trust the people my sister-in-law brings?"
Zeng Weiguo touched Juzi's head and gave Fang Pingying a faint smile as if to explain, "Pingying, please understand that I have to establish rules in my factory so that it can continue smoothly in the future."
"You..."
Juzi wanted to say more, but Fang Pingying stopped her. "Juzi, let it be. I understand Uncle Zeng's concerns."
Then she nodded towards Zeng Weiguo. She didn't blame Zeng Weiguo; instead, she looked troubled as she glanced at Cheng Fei, whom she hadn't previously informed about taking the position of guarding the door. She was worried that Cheng Fei would feel bad about it.
Even though Cheng Fei was not particularly assertive, he was not foolish. He saw Zeng Weiguo pulling Fang Pingying aside to talk, and her troubled expression as she looked towards him, so he guessed something was up.
He approached and pulled Fang Pingying to the side, asking in a low voice, "Sister-in-law, is it about the job being a bit difficult? If it's not working out, just find some other job for me; I'm fine as long as I have food and shelter."
"It's not that it's difficult." Fang Pingying was touched by Cheng Fei's thoughtfulness. She smiled and patted his shoulder, then pointed to a nearby security booth, "It's just that Uncle Zeng's factory isn't hiring currently, only the security position is available, but the salary is about the same as for factory workers."
"That's fine then, this place is pretty good," Cheng Fei replied, not showing any displeasure but rather happily adding, "There's a small house here where I won't be affected by sun or rain, certainly better than farming back in the countryside. Besides, I don't have many skills, and I worry I couldn't handle better jobs."
Seeing that he had no objections, Fang Pingying smiled at him, "Alright then, start working here for now. After some time, if you feel it's not suitable, call me, and I'll ask your brother Zhiyong to find you another job."
Cheng Fei waved his hand at Fang Pingying and hurriedly said, "No need, this place is quite nice, and the boss is familiar with you, it's good."
Zeng Weiguo had already mentioned to Fang Pingying that the security salary was indeed not low; with 12-hour shifts, a month's salary including bonuses was over fifty yuan. If Cheng Fei worked diligently each month, there were additional full attendance bonuses, accumulating to over sixty yuan, not less than what factory workers earned.
Fang Pingying actually felt it was acceptable, and since Cheng Fei didn't oppose it, she nodded to him, then went over and said to Zeng Weiguo, "Okay Uncle Zeng, I'll entrust my cousin to you for the time being."
Zeng Weiguo nodded and had someone take Cheng Fei to the dormitory.
Cheng Fei greeted Fang Pingying before following the person.
Zeng Weiguo watched the departing Cheng Fei and comforted Fang Pingying, "Pingying, to be honest, not just your relatives but even my own, when they first come to work at my factory, I initially start them at tougher positions as a form of training. If your cousin really has good character and behavior, the factory will definitely value him in the future."
"It's okay, this is good; managing a factory can't involve favoritism." Although Fang Pingying felt a little embarrassed about the whole matter, she admired Zeng Weiguo's decisiveness in handling affairs.
Perhaps it was his approach of being just and prepared toward everyone that allowed him to make his mark in the business field.
Seeing that Fang Pingying understood, Zeng Weiguo smiled, nodded, and then called Juzi over, "Now that this matter is resolved, let's go check out that place I mentioned."
"Okay, let's take a look, and if it works out, rent it sooner," Fang Pingying nodded, "There's still the need to handle decorations and discuss stocking the goods, which will take some time."
"Let's go. That place is in the city center, quite far from here," Zeng Weiguo finished speaking and then asked Juzi and Fang Pingying to get in the car, driving them to check out the place.
After getting in the car, Juzi sat with Fang Pingying in the back seat, wrapping her arm around Fang Pingying's, and asked in a low voice, "I heard from Yu'er a few days ago that you went back home, what did you do there?"
"Just some family matters, had to take care of them." In front of outsiders, Fang Pingying didn't want to discuss her family affairs, lest others view her family as being as problematic as oddities.
After speaking, she looked at Juzi again, noticed that Juzi seemed to have gained some weight these past days, glanced at Juzi's belly, and leaned close to her ear to whisper, "How have you been recently, any news yet?"
Upon hearing this, Juzi's expression became extremely dejected, "Don't mention it, Huang Lin's mother came to the city again over this matter. These past few days, I've been staying at the military compound, almost driven crazy by her."
Fang Pingying frowned, "What happened, last time you were pregnant, she caused a lot of fuss, this time you're not yet, what trouble can she cause now?"
"She came from our hometown yesterday, bringing me over ten packs of traditional Chinese medicine, claiming it to be prescribed by some Divine Doctor from their village, saying many childless people got pregnant immediately after taking this medicine," Juzi complained to Fang Pingying with a troubled look, "But the medicine is so dark, I'm worried it's some charlatan's harmful concoction, could be dangerous."
"Juzi, if there's an issue, go to the hospital for a checkup, you can't just consume any medicine brought by the elderly," overhearing Juzi's words, Zeng Weiguo, who was driving, looked at Juzi through the rearview mirror and sternly said, "If you can't handle it yourself, talk to Huang Lin, otherwise let him come to my place tonight, I'll talk things over with him."
Juzi rolled her eyes at him and cooed, "Oh uncle, even if Huang Lin comes, you're just going to lecture him again, he's already scared of you."
Zeng Weiguo hummed lightly, "That kid is just too meek, otherwise how could the old lady dare to behave like this?"
Juzi didn't respond to Zeng Weiguo's comment, but turned to Fang Pingying and asked, "Sister-in-law, what should I do? If I don't take the medicine, I'll surely argue with that old lady when I go back. She said each dose costs over ten yuan, and it's not even something you can buy with money, very precious."
Fang Pingying also supported Zeng Weiguo's opinion regarding the medicine issue and said, "You should still discuss this with Huang Lin, medicine should not be taken carelessly, especially those prescribed by some so-called Divine Doctor, it really could be fatal."
Hearing this, Juzi reluctantly nodded, "Alright, I might as well call Huang Lin to stay at my mom's place today, have a good talk with him, and anyhow, avoid the old lady for a day if possible."
