Reborn as a Tough Army Wife

Chapter 228: Blurted Out

Exactly how many months juzi had been pregnant, everyone in the family had grown attached to the child.

Luckily, juzi's disposition has always been cheerful. Waking up after the surgery last night, when she learned that she had lost her baby, she wailed loudly. Afterward, she cursed Bai Jing through gritted teeth, and once she calmed down, she seemed to have accepted the reality.

Seeing Fang Pingying coming, she cried for a while and then it was as if nothing major had happened.

She sobbed a few times and, childlike, pouted at Fang Pingying, "Sister-in-law, the baby had been in my belly for several months, and these days, I really suffered a lot to carry him."

Zeng Yueji, upon hearing this, scolded and tapped on her head, "What suffering did you endure? You just had to stay home and couldn't go out to have fun, that's all."

"juzi, it's alright, don't cry, you just had surgery, crying too much isn't good," Fang Pingying smiled and patted her head. "I brought chicken soup for you, have some."

With that, Fang Pingying took the chicken soup from Huang Lin's hands and tried to feed it to her.

"I..." juzi had been forced by Zeng Yueji to eat a bowl of porridge, and her stomach was too full, "I don't want to eat, I have no appetite."

Fang Pingying poured a small bowl and handed it to her, whispering persuasively, "Have a little bit. Zhiyong and Hong Lan got up early to buy it from the market, and I stewed it myself. It's nutritious and good for your recovery."

Zeng Yueji quietly nodded in approval upon seeing Fang Pingying's actions, feeling that Fang Pingying knew how to interact with people and was sensible. It was good for juzi to have her as a friend.

After Fang Pingying gave the chicken soup to juzi, she said with a smile, "Xiao Fang, you're really thoughtful. I was even planning to go to the market later to buy some for her. I didn't expect you to have it ready so early in the morning; you've gone through a lot of trouble."

"It's no trouble," Fang Pingying took the opportunity to apologize to Zeng Yueji, "Auntie, speaking of which, it's all my fault what happened to juzi, I feel terribly guilty..."

Zeng Yueji understood what Fang Pingying was thinking and patted her hand, comforting her, "Don't be like that, if anyone is to blame, it's that Bai Jing, with such a venomous heart. She seems so out of character."

"Exactly, she's shameless. She's already married, and yet she still keeps thinking about Camp Chief Luo, what's that all about?" After juzi finished cursing Bai Jing, she suddenly asked with gossip-filled curiosity, "Sister-in-law, did you guys go to the Police Station yesterday? Was Zhou Guangsheng there?"

"He was there," Fang Pingying nodded.

juzi's gossiping eyes lit up, and she eagerly asked, "Does he know what happened?" Read ahead and get updates by visiting M^VLEMPYR.

"Zhiyong was afraid there might be misunderstandings in the future, so he talked to him about it. He didn't say much though." But judging by Zhou Guangsheng's expression when he left yesterday, he was definitely upset inside.

That was normal though -- any man would find it hard to tolerate such a thing. Zhou Guangsheng didn't ask for a divorce right away, which was quite enduring of him.

After hearing Fang Pingying's words, juzi sighed, "Encountering a wife like Bai Jing, Chief Zhou really has rotten luck that stretches back eight generations."

"Don't worry about other people's business," Fang Pingying nodded, advising juzi, "Remember, if you run into that woman in the future, just turn around and leave to avoid being harmed by her again."

"I should be fine; it's not my Huang Lin she's after," juzi said, and then looked at Luo Zhiyong speaking with Huang Lin outside the door, and told Fang Pingying, "But sister-in-law, I think you need to be more careful. She didn't get to you yesterday, but who knows when she might turn the tables and come back."

Zeng Yueji also thought there was sense in juzi's words, and looked at her worriedly, "Xiao Fang, I heard you bought a place in the city, just don't go back to the compound recently. Stay in the city, avoid her."

Fang Pingying nodded, "Mhm, I probably won't go back to the compound for a while, I'll avoid her as much as possible."

At Zhou Guangsheng and Bai Jing's home.

Since they left the Police Station yesterday, Zhou Guangsheng had not uttered a word, nor had Bai Jing.

And judging by Bai Jing's behavior, she ate and drank as if nothing had happened.

Although Zhou Guangsheng didn't speak, he was constantly observing Bai Jing in secret.

He had long been aware of Bai Jing's feelings for Luo Zhiyong, but he was not certain about them.

Bai Jing, who lived in the courtyard with him, was often too busy with her daytime job to interact much with the neighbors; having more than a ten-word conversation with anyone there was considered a lot.

If people invited Zhou Guangsheng to dinner or to drink at their place, Bai Jing was never willing to join, always finding something to complain about their houses.

But whenever Luo Zhiyong was the host, Bai Jing would insist on going even if Zhou Guangsheng didn't ask her, and she would even dress up for the occasion.

Before Fang Pingying arrived, Bai Jing had accompanied Zhou Guangsheng to Luo Zhiyong's house several times.

Her reactions compelled Zhou Guangsheng to doubt her.

But Zhou Guangsheng trusted Luo Zhiyong immensely; he believed even if Bai Jing had such thoughts, they would be in vain. A righteous person like Luo Zhiyong would never do such things.

Especially since they were soldiers, they would be even more careful with such matters. So even though Zhou Guangsheng had his suspicions, he was never really worried.

Of course, as a husband, he was not comfortable knowing his wife had another man on her mind.

But what could he do about being uncomfortable? He always knew Bai Jing did not have much affection for him; it was always him yearning alone.

But his unreciprocated feelings didn't mean Bai Jing could do such a thing.

To try to harm another man's wife just for the sake of Luo Zhiyong.

Zhou Guangsheng had originally intended to wait for Bai Jing's explanation, but he waited all night, and Bai Jing remained silent, acting as if nothing had happened.

By morning, Bai Jing got up as if nothing was wrong, got dressed after washing up, and left for work with her bag, just like any other day.

Zhou Guangsheng couldn't stand it any longer, he reached out to stop her, "Where are you going?"

Bai Jing glanced at him indifferently, "To work, where else could I go?"

Zhou Guangsheng didn't expect Bai Jing to really act as if nothing had occurred; she hadn't mentioned visiting the hospital to check on the person, nor had she given him any explanation, which made him angry.

He frowned at Bai Jing, "You have the nerve to go to work? You hurt someone badly over a man, and now that person is living in the hospital where you work. Do you think no one in the hospital knows about it?"

"So what if they know? What others say is their business, not mine," Bai Jing retorted coldly, continuing, "Besides, I've said it was not on purpose, it was all just an accident."

"An accident?" Zhou Guangsheng, after sharing the bed with Bai Jing for so many years, knew her too well. His face ashen, he questioned her, "Are you that close to Fang Pingying? With your temperament, would you call out to someone across the street?"

"What are you implying? You believe what Fang Pingying said, thinking that I had the intent to kill?" Bai Jing looked straight at Zhou Guangsheng and asked dismissively, "Do you think I have the guts?"

"Yes, you've even rushed into someone's house with a kitchen knife wanting to chop up the wife. And besides..." Zhou Guangsheng blurted out Bai Jing's past, but he paused mid-sentence.
