Chapter 4: Chapter 4 Unrecognized
Even having Second Rank was enough to make Luo Qiao incredibly happy. As long as she still had her Special Ability, that was all that mattered to her. She would slowly increase it over time—after all, the memories of her original self told her that the forests lay ahead of Qingshan Village.
Besides, it was a time of peace now; there was no urgent need to quickly enhance her Special Ability level for self-defense.
Knowing that her Special Ability had followed her, she felt reassured at heart. Even if no one took her in, she could live comfortably by herself. At worst, she could go to the mountains to find some rare and valuable plants to cultivate and, when the time came, sell them to support herself.
The thought of flowers and plants led her back to the dream she had before. She wished she had a space of her own, but she was not one to indulge in unrealistic fantasies. After all, even during the apocalypse, those with space-related Special Abilities were rare, and she was certainly not that lucky.
With her Special Ability, her life had a layer of security, and she relaxed. Perhaps because she had indeed lost a lot of blood the day before, it didn't take long before she slowly drifted back to sleep.
Unexpectedly, she continued the dream she had before. Luo Qiao returned to the front of the Bamboo Building, where she still encountered no one. Emboldened, she pushed open the main door and went inside.
Luo Qiao found the interior to be quite spacious, and after walking around, she noticed that besides the living room, the first floor also housed a kitchen and a utility room. She looked up towards the second floor, knowing it wouldn't be appropriate to go up there without invitation, but her curiosity led her to climb the stairs.
Upstairs were three rooms—a bedroom, a study, and another filled entirely with musical instruments like guzhengs, guqins, pipas, erhus, suonas, xiaos, flutes, shengs, pottery xuns, and konghous.
Each type of instrument was present in multiple copies, indicating that the owner must be someone who loved music deeply.
The bedroom contained many pieces of jewelry, all of exquisite quality, and several embroidery stands of varying sizes. The cabinets were filled with completed embroidery works, along with plenty of high-quality embroidery fabric and threads.
The study was a mix of books about medicine, music theory, and various Embroidery Techniques. Luo Qiao casually picked up one of the books about Embroidery Techniques.
Just as she was about to open the book in her hands, she heard a commotion growing louder and closer, and couldn't help but wake up.
Listening closely to the noise outside, she heard a woman say, "It's not that we don't recognize her, it's just that she really isn't our daughter. Our daughter died at birth."
Then another woman spoke up, "Then why did you agree to let her stay? If you don't recognize her, why didn't you just have the Luo couple take her away with them?"
Another woman chimed in, "That woman from the Luo Family gave the Zhao Family two hundred yuan; that's why Gao Suhua agreed to let the girl stay."
"Since you took their money, you should take her back to your place to raise. What gives you the right to dump her at Lu Yichen's house?"
"The brigade leader is here, the brigade leader is here."
A man then said, "Gao Suhua, what on earth is the Zhao Family doing? You can't just leave the person at Comrade Lu's house without caring for her."
Gao Suhua replied, "Brigade leader, we live far away, and the doctor said yesterday that it would be best not to move her too much. It's really inconvenient for us to come over."
The brigade leader said, "Then when are you going to take her back? She can't stay at Comrade Lu's house forever."
Gao Suhua continued, "Brigade leader, as you know, I have to provide for six daughters at home. It's not that I don't recognize her, but she really is not the Zhao Family's child. Why not see if any family in the village wants a daughter and just take her home with them?"
Luo Qiao listened to their conversation from inside the house, feeling extremely angry. What did they think of her?
She then heard Lu Yichen say, "You should also listen to what the young girl thinks before you make any decisions."
