Reborn as a Mountain: I Defy the Heavens with a Smile

Chapter 142: Aaaahhh! Ye Chen, Help!

"Brother Ye Chen, look, a lot of clouds are gathering together like a big storm!" Lin Xian'er exclaimed, pointing at the sky where pitch-black dark clouds swirled.

However, Ye Chen did not care about this and looked behind in the distance.

The old man Yang Wuji also fixed his gaze in the same direction, but his eyes narrowed and filled with wariness.

'Why is that thing so impatient? There are still a few trials ahead!' The old man muttered in his heart with some dissatisfaction; however, no matter how irritated he was, he didn't dare to display it on his face.

"Old man, are you hiding something?" Ye Chen inquired, his eyes sharp as he looked at the old man.

Just a few seconds ago he felt a terrifying gaze locking on him from behind. It wouldn't have been too much of a problem or serious issue; however, the gaze was filled with ill intentions. Furthermore, the gaze alone was enough to change the sky.

"Ahem! I am not hiding anything; it's just that thing wants to stay there. Also, that is something you will get to see after completing the trial so don't worry," the old man waved his hands like it was nothing.

Ye Chen could only roll his eyes at him before looking at Li Mei and others. As for the gaze or whatever it was? He will figure that out later.

"Ohh, the clouds disappeared," Lin Xian'er muttered with a disappointed look as it didn't rain like she was hoping silently.

Nonetheless, she didn't hang up on it too much and looked at the disciples who were taking the trial of insight.

Everyone was puzzled by the sudden change in the sky; however, no one sensed anything except Ye Chen and the old man, so they didn't think too much and continued with the trial.

"Aaaahhh! Ye Chen, help!"

Suddenly a scream echoed, pulling the attention of everyone.

The scream belonged to a female disciple of a certain sect who had failed to gain insight even after trying two times! Which meant she did not receive help again and was getting pushed back.

"H-help! I am going to fail! Help me!" The female disciple once again screamed.

However, Ye Chen remained unmoved.

Watching him like this, the female disciple gritted her teeth.

"I-I will let you do anything to me as long as you help me with the trial!" she offered.

But there was no response.

She tried a few more times, even offering her sect's martial arts; she was even willing to be a maid. However, it did not change anything. Soon she lost her patience as the force that pushed her back increased.

"Ye Chen! I hate you!" She shouted with anger before climbing the next step once again.

However, this was not a good idea, especially since her emotions were not in control and she was mentally exhausted. It didn't take too long, and she failed once again, which led to more stupid decisions like trying and cursing again.

She even started to cry and laugh as her mental state worsened further. Boom! But before she could go completely mad, the trial kicked her out ruthlessly and she started to roll down from the stairs.

It was certainly painful and bloody. Fortunately, she didn't go mad, so she was able to control her fall before descending down with an ugly look.

"Arghh! I can't fail!"

She had not even climbed down halfway when a male disciple who had failed started to force himself like her. The result? Same as hers, he even almost died as he went near the edge of the stairs while falling.

The disciples below and on the trial who witnessed this couldn't help but shiver with fear.

"He is really a demon."

"Humph! Now you know it."

The disciples below conversed, while the one who was taking the trial felt fear of failure. Even Li Mei and others were the same, as they felt Ye Chen might not help them.

Of course, if they asked, he would, as they were not some strangers. Nonetheless, the help will be limited because there was no use in climbing up this slowly.

After the incident of two failures, everyone came to know that they couldn't rely on Ye Chen's help forever and started to put everything they could into clearing the trial.

Li Mei was trying to grasp the part of insight and also the Origin Foundation Method. But her first attempt came as a failure, increasing her anxiety.

Nevertheless, she calmed her heart down and once again challenged the next step. But it was useless, as she just couldn't grasp the insight no matter how hard she tried.

'Am I really going to fail?' She thought with an unwilling look as the force pushing her back increased, which meant she only had a few breaths of time left!

She did not have any confidence now and she even considered giving up. However, when she looked ahead and saw her bully senior brother looking at her with a gentle look, she instantly cast away all of the negative thoughts and tried to grasp the insight.

Her decision was correct, as she felt the insight in her grasp; however, she felt something was missing.

'Why does it feel incomplete?' She muttered to herself as the basic insight of breathing spiritual Qi appeared in her head.

However, they were all words with profound meanings, which she did not understand.

'Life linking to mind, body, and spirit. Harmony between heaven and earth. The authority to command the world… ugh so complicated!' She complained; however, she knew there was not too much time left so she started to breathe spiritual Qi to understand this.

Of course, to breathe spiritual Qi required her to cultivate it, and she just did that. As for harm or any injuries she might suffer if she got pushed back? She didn't think of it as somewhere in her heart she was extremely unwilling to fail.

Swoosh!

As soon as she breathed spiritual Qi, her mind became clear and the words that made her feel puzzled suddenly became clear. Soon she felt everything was like a puzzle and started to arrange them in order.

However, there were many missing pieces and the only way to find them was to climb further and she just did that! Moreover, with speed!

"Look, I said the trial becomes easier after you cross half of it."

"Really? That seems strange if you consider the comprehension needed at the start wasn't very hard."

The disciples below speculated after knowing what the trial was; however, no one could come up with the right answer except the disciples who were inside the mystic pond.

"That is enlightenment! She had attained enlightenment!"

"What? How is that possible?"

"Yeah, there is no way it's an enlightenment; maybe something else?"

"No, that is an enlightenment! My master had said, enlightenment can be attained at any time and any place; it's just you need heaven-defying luck and talent to comprehend the world."

"Doesn't that mean the enlightenment is only for geniuses?"

"Yeah, no matter how sad you are, this thing is only for geniuses but as always, there are some exceptions."

"Brother Ye Chen, is that enlightenment? Is it also something that I attained and cleared all of the trials with it?" Lin Xian'er inquired curiously.

She still didn't know what had happened to her and how she cleared the trial. Although she experienced the insights, she thought that's just how things should be and nothing else.

"Why don't you ask the old man? He might have the answer," Ye Chen replied.

"Ahh, you are right! Hey, old man, tell me how I cleared the trials. If you can, I will consider being your disciple; however, if you don't, then forget about me even thinking it!" Lin Xian'er threatened with a pout.

Hearing her, the old man's face was filled with difficulty, and he couldn't help but glare at Ye Chen before replying.

"All I can tell you is I have seen a person like you. As for how special you are and how you cleared the trial, you will figure it out yourself," he explained with a serious look.

Lin Xian'er was clearly not happy with his half-ass answer; however, something inside her prevented her from asking further and then she acted as if nothing happened.

Watching her like this, the old man heaved a sigh of relief while Ye Chen made a few guesses.

Just as they were talking Su Ying, Lan Ming, and Wang Yiyi encountered the hurdle. However, seeing Li Mei clearing the trial with ease, they understood all they needed was enlightenment.

But clearly it was not so easy to attain.

Nevertheless, all of them were talents so it was easy for them to figure out how Li Mei did it and they did the same!

They all started to cultivate without worrying about injuries. The backlash, after all, wasn't that high and since they were going to fail, why not try it? Maybe a little dangerous but as long as they could clear the trial, they were willing to do it.

However, they were not Li Mei and Ye Chen after all; soon they understood things can also go wrong.
