Chapter 15: The Underground Cavern
Brandon grabbed the treasure chest with one claw, and worked hard to climb forward with one claw and both feet. He climbed twenty or thirty metres and finally reached the entrance of the cave.
Even though his golden bell had already reached the third level, with the addition of the dragon's blood, his whole body. It was extremely powerful, but he was still a little out of breath. Brandon rested for a while at the entrance of the cave and planned to leave the cave to go home.
He walked dozens of metres in the cave and suddenly became a little dumbfounded. This cave was not the original cave at all. There were originally six holes in the middle of the cliff, and they were all about the same size. Brandon couldn't tell where the original hole was, so he just made a rough distinction and started climbing up.
Looking at the treasure box in his hand, he hesitated. It was easy to go up the mountain but difficult to go down. Climbing down with a 200 kilogram treasure box was simply an impossible task. Asking him to throw away the treasure box was a bit reluctant.
Brandon thought to himself that it would only take a little longer anyway, and it would be the same if he went out from here. The entire cave extended downwards, and it was unknown how deep it was. Brandon had no choice but to bite the bullet and climb down.
He didn't realise how long he had been crawling, but the space began to slowly increase. After turning a corner, a huge space appeared in front of Brandon Drake.
The walls were faintly emitting fluorescence. Through the light, he could see that next to him was a dark pool with jagged rocks. Under the fluorescent light, it seemed to emit light. The colourful light makes people feel like they are in a fairy tale world.
This underground cave was extremely huge, and there was a river underneath the cave. It may be that the dry season was coming, and the water flow was not as strong as before. The river gradually had become smaller, revealing a huge river bed next to it.
It was covered with a layer of white fine sand and there were beautiful pebbles everywhere, which was very comfortable to step on. Because each part of the limestone layer in this cave contained different amounts of lime and had been eroded to different degrees, it gradually dissolved and divided into caves with various, steep and beautiful peaks and strange landscapes that were independent of each other.
These limestones were mixed with some luminous ores, making Brandon feel more and more fascinated. Brandon had also visited an ancient Huanglong Cave in his previous life, but it was obviously incomparable to this place.
Time passed slowly, and gradually, Brandon Drake's joy of being shocked by this spectacle disappeared, and was replaced by inexplicable irritability. It had been nearly three hours since he had been walking, and there was still no sign of the cave reaching its end. On the contrary, the river below the river bank became more and more fierce and violent. When it encountered a large arc, water splashed onto the banks on both sides.
About ten metres ahead, Brandon found that a section of the road was completely submerged in water. It was about fifty metres. If I want to continue forward from here, I have to swim in the water.
Brandon had swum in the swimming pool in his cave, so it was not a big problem, but if he goes swimming with a 200 kilogram treasure chest, it would be quite problematic. Brandon walked forward and fortunately found that the water was not very deep. I can almost walk right through. Brandon took a step in the water. Suddenly, there was an itching sensation on his feet, which made him feel a little uncomfortable.
Brandon pulled back his foot from the water and took a look. It was a little creepy. The whole foot was covered with small fish biting his skin. Brandon suddenly broke out in a cold sweat.
These fish were very small, about five centimetres in length. They seemed to have no eyes, but they looked extremely ferocious. Their pointed heads were scaleless and in the shape of a shuttle. Their sharp teeth bit into Brandon's scales. Extremely ferocious.
Brandon's scales were extremely thick and tough, but he was still bitten with a series of teeth marks. And these fish actually refused to let go, even after being taken out of the water, they were still biting hard.
Brandon's stomach rumbled slightly at this time, and he smiled bitterly in his heart. It had been about seven or eight hours since the morning, and he hadn't eaten anything. He grabbed a handful of small fish, put them in his mouth, and chewed them hard.
Although this fish was a bit small, its bones are very hard. The fish meat was very firm, but did not have the fishy smell of ordinary fish. It was smooth and a little sweet.
Brandon tore some pieces of small fish into pieces and handed them to Skyler, who had been resting on Brandon's shoulder from then until now. A few minutes later, Brandon waded through the water area and turned a curved path.
A rare natural landscape appeared in front of Brandon Drake. This was a huge space with many huge natural stone pillars, like corals on the seabed. These stone pillars are large and small and arranged closely. There were countless stone pillars. When Brandon Drake walked among them, he had a strange feeling in his heart, as if he had returned to the jungle.
I don’t know how these strange stone pillars were formed. Brandon walked into a stone pillar to take a closer look. Suddenly Brandon was a little stunned. This stone pillar with a diameter of nearly one metre seemed a bit small among so many stone pillars. Brandon clearly discovered that there were bark-like stripes on the stone pillars.
Brandon looked at a few more, and every one of them had the same stripes. Fossils! These are all fossils of trees. Brandon exclaimed in a low voice. The entire cave was like a fossil jungle.
Fossils are ancient relics buried in the ground, formed by millions of years of sediment burial. The most common ones are animal fossils. Since the bones and teeth of animals have less organic matter and more inorganic matter, the degree of decay will slow down after being buried in the sand.
They will be washed away by the slowly flowing groundwater in the gaps between the sand and the excess minerals. Materials precipitate to form crystals, and if the crystals of these minerals completely replace the organic matter before the bones completely decay, they will form true fossils. But plant fossils are very rare because plants decay much faster than animal bones.
This place may have been a huge active volcano hundreds of millions of years ago. During a volcanic eruption, the trees that were instantly carbonised by the high temperature were immediately engulfed by the ensuing mudslides before they could be destroyed. The temperature also increased instantly and then it cooled down.
After a long period of tens of millions of years, with the changes in nature and repeated erosion of the underground water system, the forests that had been sealed in the sand for countless years are revealed underground again. Brandon judged in his mind.
Brandon once visited the Xianhu Fossil Forest in Shenzhen and knew the general reason for the formation of this fossil forest. It was precisely because of this that it seemed more precious. It should be worth a lot of money! Brandon thought to himself.
The underground river flowed through the jungle. There was a lake and a pool of water in front of it, and it flowed away like an unknown distance. The pool of water appeared to be very deep and dark black. There was only a small water channel next to it, which was close to the cave wall and with twists and turns, about fifty centimetres wide. Brandon walked onto the trail, and reached a small dark lake which appeared like the giant mouth of a wild beast, emitting a dangerous breath.
