Chapter 1560: Mourning The Fallen
-----
They halted the tsunamis, restored the ravaged forests, tended to the wounded, and rescued thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of people. They also calmed the turbulent oceans, which, without a moon and amidst relentless tremors, had been in chaos for some time.
The absence of a moon was undeniably heartbreaking, but Maria couldn't restore it herself. Offering a Moon from her Soulscape might provide a solution, yet that Moon was imbued with potent magical energy, and she was uncertain about the consequences it could unleash upon the world. For now, she chose to hold off on such a risky decision.
After aiding countless individuals, they returned to the island and resolved to rest for the day, secure in the knowledge that the world's end had been averted. The Azure Star would endure far beyond the initial seven days, and indeed, it already had!
They had accomplished these feats by the morning of the eighth day. By the time their efforts concluded, another day had slipped by, and they found themselves under the stars on the night of the ninth day.
With the world-ending entities finally vanquished, the Azure Star was granted a new lease on life, promising a future far longer than anyone had dared hope.
Students and volunteers gathered near the academy, which, though scarred by battle, stood resilient. They came together to mourn the fallen, those who had not survived the catastrophic conflict.
In total, 156 lives were lost in this struggle, including the Academy's Director, a figure deeply mourned by every student, along with several other cherished teachers.
"This isn't fair… Why did he had to die?"
"Director…"
"Your sacrifice wasn't in vain…!"
"Without his help, we wouldn't have been able to survive long enough for Maria to help…"
"We owe him our lives; we have to keep living for him."
The funeral was held beneath the cherry blossom tree born from the Director's death, a majestic Dream Spirit Tree sprouted from his own Dream Heart. This sacred tree continued to generate a protective barrier around the city, shielding it from lingering threats.
Much had changed, and Maria, despite her longing for rest, found herself addressing numerous people and clarifying many details for everyone. She chose to conceal the truth of her otherworldly origins from all but a trusted few—Amelia, Sofia, Emily, Alma, and Martina. However, Cheng Xie was already piecing together suspicions on his own, and Artorias, with his keen intuition, was also beginning to unravel the mystery.
Nonetheless, the morning of the next day, Maria spent it explaining all of these things to her friends, the truth of their world, and the tower… and that the Tower would soon begin its assimilation.
They understood things surprisingly well and were able to finally get a proper idea of what was going on… the Academy students were mostly dismissed, most would have to move out of the island as well, as the academy was going through a lot of reparations, or well, the whole island.
There was another Academy in North America where most people would now move to, and a second in Japan where a few others would go to, both of these Academies were still in construction but had to be prematurely inaugurated to welcome all the students that were left with nothing.
However, most of the students of the last class were given the honor to graduate ahead of time, this included all of Maria's class, which were now stepping into the world of official Dream Warriors.
Of course, these were things that they had yet to do, the graduation would happen in a month from now, and people were still trying to make sense of everything that had happened.
Nightmare Realms all around the world had also disappeared, entrances had slowly shut down until nothing was left behind.
The only thing that was left from the Nightmare Phenomenon were the people with Dream Hearts, and the Nightmare Fields which had already been previously contaminated, which were still a lot around the world, but had also grown weakened after the recent events.
The news about a "Ultimate Nightmare" that had been slain by the students of the Dream Heart Academy had been going all around the world, with Maria at the center piece, as everyone and their mother told the press that she had slain the beast when she flew into the skies and fought the thing in outer space, leaving a lot of people speechless, some not able to even believe that.
However, that they were heroes was not a lie, and this was spread around the world, news about the "Young Generation of Heroes Saving the World", and Maria at the centerpiece, being called the "Strongest Dream Warrior In History".
A lot of commotion had been going on around the entire world, Dream Warriors from around the globe had mixed reactions about what happened, most were happy, but a lot also criticized the media for calling these young people as good as they were, even though 99% of the Dream Warriors of the world weren't even present when all of this happened.
Naturally, the top ten Dream Warriors, all celebrities with immense wealth and authority were also quite upset about a girl being called the "Strongest of the World" from baseless rumors and no proof about them other than word of mouth from the people of the island.
Some went as far as saying that the entire catastrophe was orchestrated and that it was fake, even though proof that the moon and mars were gone was out there, pictures from nearby satellites also took some blurry images of a big black ball and something with tentacles fighting, but it would all come blurry or glitched.
At the end, a lot happened, and people had to take their time to get used to this new world, completely unaware that if it wasn't for all these heroes, their world would have come to an end.
And also completely unaware of what was coming.
And like this, a week has passed.
