But I believe that no matter how much he jumps in front of my strength, the result will be the same.
At this moment, I suddenly felt the surrounding space fluctuate, and a familiar aura appeared in front of me.
"This is?"
Boom—
A blood-red portal formed in front of me.
A familiar figure squeezed out from the portal.
"Your things!"
The person who came was Debbie, the soul demon, and she threw a bruised corpse from her back.
It was the corpse of another soul demon.
"Your efficiency is so high?"
I stood up and pawed at the corpse of the soul demon with my claws. This one seemed much smaller than Debbie.
"I hunted this guy down for a month before I killed him!" Debbie said carelessly.
In fact, she didn't mention that this soul demon was once her ally, whom she seriously injured in a surprise attack. Otherwise, with the resilience of demons and the short-distance teleportation ability of soul demons, killing him wouldn't have been so easy.
Debbie felt no guilt. For demons, the concept of allies was meaningless—nothing was beyond betrayal.
Demons are inherently chaotic. They thrive in chaos.
Something felt off when I looked at Debbie. The cooldown time for my Feast skill was still five days away.
"You said you chased and killed this soul demon for a month?"
"Hehe, time flows differently between the material world and the Nine Hells!" Debbie explained impatiently. But what shocked me wasn't the time dilation, it was the fact that she was living in the Nine Hells.
"I see." I didn't feel ashamed of my ignorance.
"Actually, I have another question. You're an Abyss demon, so why do you stay in the Nine Hells?" I seized the opportunity to learn more.
"The Bottomless Abyss isn't a place ordinary demons can enter. For someone as weak as me, going there would mean becoming a snack for a demon lord. On the other hand, the Nine Hells are much more comfortable." Debbie felt the black dragon was talking too much today and wanted to leave.
"How can you come to me directly through the magic circle?"
"Because we've already signed a contract. I can locate your space coordinates using the teleportation laws of Avernus!" Debbie answered quickly.
Before I could ask more, she walked straight toward the magic circle.
"Bring another demon next time!" I commanded.
Debbie said nothing and stepped into the magic circle, vanishing. She was eager to enjoy the handsome succubi she had just captured and didn't want to waste time talking to this crazy black dragon.
I remained, pondering the Nine Hells and the Bottomless Abyss.
"Vickers, bring me all my topaz!"
I issued the order through the psychic chain.
Vickers, in the midst of building with the goblins, was abruptly disturbed, causing him to faint.
"Lord Barbatos!"
Ignoring the stares of the female goblins below, Vickers hurriedly lifted his pants and ran out.
He began organizing his subordinates to transport the yellow ore to my cave.
Unaware of the chaos, I only cared about my ore.
Soon, the goblins had filled my cave with the topaz.
I didn't plan to visit the magic iron mine for now. My priority was to improve my strength and destroy Voltan City.
After all, I'm a dragon.
Since the Voltan family wants me dead, there's nothing wrong with killing them in return.
I sighed, glancing at the soul demon's corpse next to me.
My strength is still improving too slowly.
---
The city of Voltan has been extremely lively these days because the patriarch of the Voltan family called the surrounding mercenary groups and adventurers to gather in Voltan City to kill a young evil black dragon.
It is said that the black dragon did not just attack the slave hunters of House Voltan. Moreover, Lord Tarom of the Voltan family and countless soldiers were killed just to steal the treasure.
I heard that the treasures in the dragon's lair are piled up like mountains, and there are countless powerful weapons and staffs. Hundreds of thousands of gold coins were snatched from the Voltan family alone.
Suddenly, all the adventurers and mercenary groups were boiling.
A tavern in Voltan City has exploded.
"Geraint, are you also here to participate in the dragon slaying?" a burly man in animal skins shouted at a handsome man with long blond hair.
"It's so lively, I definitely want to see it!"
The blond man Geraint looked at the surrounding scene with great interest.
"Geraint, we can cooperate at that time. To be honest, I have no interest in slaying dragons. My greatest interest is the treasure of that black dragon. Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of gold coins—if we go to his cave to pick up a staff or something like that, we'll make a lot of money!" the big man in animal skins excitedly said.
"Daniel, dragons are not that simple, especially when it comes to protecting their treasures!" Geraint said seriously.
"Hehe, when the time comes, with so many mercenary groups and adventurers, as well as the army of the Voltan family and spellcasters, the black dragon will have them to deal with. We don't have to deal with it head-on!" Daniel waved dismissively.
"Geraint..."
"What's wrong with you, Delia?" Geraint asked gently as he looked at the petite figure in the black robe behind him.
"Why don't we leave here!" Delia said anxiously.
"Delia, I know that all your former teammates died in the claws of the Queen of Darkness, but this black dragon is a young black dragon, and it was only a young dragon that attacked your mercenary group!" Geraint sighed.
"But since you don't like it, Delia, let's add some equipment here and leave!"
---
At the highest location in Voltan City, the head of the family, Victor, was watching the increasing number of mercenaries below with an indifferent expression from the top of the tower.
"Patriarch, these mercenaries are veterans. We can't count on them to contribute, and we have to share their spoils for nothing..." said an elder of the Voltan family.
"Don't worry, I have my own plan," Victor said lightly.
---
"Master, that group of humans is too deceitful. They actually advertised that they would discuss dragon slaying in Voltan City and even sent us a letter!" Shadar said angrily.
Because they had caught more than one wave of adventurers or mercenaries in the past two days, it was known that the Voltan family was actually calling on the surrounding mercenary groups and adventurers to deal with the young true dragon and snatch the treasure of the true dragon. This made Shadar furious, thinking of going to Voltan City to kill those guys.
Shadar now looked a little irritable after his strength had improved. The previous human adventurers were all killed by him. I felt that Shadar should be partly affected by the twisted seed. On the other hand, I was very calm because I felt that this time it was not that simple.
And to be honest, I'm just a pauper dragon, with all the treasures in my stomach. This may disappoint those adventurers.
"Shadar, you go down first. Don't act rashly; wait for my order!"
"As ordered!"
Although it felt very uncomfortable, under my order, Shadar still restrained his restless bloodthirsty heart and slowly retreated.
At this time, my attention was focused on the panel. The feast cooldown time had arrived. I believed that as long as my strength was strong enough, no matter what tricks the Voltan family used, I could crush them head-on.
Looking at the soul demon corpse in the cave and the countless topaz ores, I felt that should be enough. During this time, I also hunted and killed some large monsters around the forest, used as spare rations.
So let the feast begin!
What followed was the familiar feeling of hunger—a feeling of wanting to devour everything that grew stronger. I began to dismember the ugly body of the soul demon. I had been a dragon for so many years, and I no longer cared about it. I didn't know what the meat of the soul demon tasted like, but with the blessing of the feast, its meat was the most delicious to me.
A soul demon fed about 30% of the progress of the feast—not too much but not too little. After all, I was mainly after traits. Then there were those warcraft corpses and topaz ore. All of them were crunchy, but it was a pity there were no condiments such as gold coins and silver coins, which always lacked some meaning.
But when I was eating, I felt something was wrong because the feast percentage that the ore could provide was much less. For example, the original topaz of more than four tons could provide me with almost 1% of the progress of the feast, but now it actually took seven tons to provide 1%. This meant I had to devour more topaz! It seemed that the resources were still not enough!
I opened my scarlet eyes and thought, "Let's go through this feast first!" I stopped thinking about this question. The sky is big and the earth is big; the feast is the biggest!
Soon, when there were only a few pieces of topaz ore left, the progress of the feast finally reached 100%.
---
When woke up a day later, my body length had reached 41.5 meters. Moreover, my body became thicker, and there were more spikes on the surface of my body. These spikes began to protrude from my back and even my cheeks, making my appearance even more ferocious.

"Void walk?
It seems a bit like a blink's skill, but there's something distinct about it.
This one is more like a flash, instantaneous and far quicker!
Let me try it first and see how it works.
The skill granted by the feast feels almost like instinct. It activates at the moment of thought.
Without hesitation, my massive form vanished, only to reappear fifty meters away in the blink of an eye.
Thankfully, the cave is spacious enough!
I marveled at how little mana I'd used, covering such a large distance in an instant.
Looking around, the space here was far too constricted—completely unsuitable for further Void walking.
I quickly decided to leave the cave, taking to the air.
My colossal form surged upward, sending gusts of wind and debris scattering in all directions.
Shadar stood below, mouth agape as he watched my massive figure vanish into the sky.
"Such power... as expected of Lord Barbatos!" Shadar whispered in awe.
He began reminiscing about the first time he'd met me, recalling just how imposing my presence had been back then. Had I grown even larger?
But for Master Barbatos, this level of growth was entirely normal.
I arrived in a dense forest shortly after, continuing my experiments with the Void walk ability.
From time to time, a massive shadow flashed through the trees as I tested my limits, appearing in different locations. The sight of a massive black dragon vanishing and reappearing so rapidly was strange, to say the least.
After several more trials, I began to fully understand the intricacies of this Void walk skill.
The maximum range allows me to travel up to 300 meters in a single step, though this consumes significant magical energy.
After each Void walk, I can immediately perform another one, but doing so requires even more mana and causes an intense, tearing sensation throughout my body.
I tested my limits and discovered that I could Void walk eight times in quick succession. Beyond that, it would likely be dangerous.
A full recovery takes about five minutes, during which time my body adapts and I can prepare to blink again.
Overall, I felt satisfied with the skill. The fact that Void walk can be triggered with a mere thought makes it incredibly useful.
While space magic exists in this world—like the space scrolls that allow teleportation—such spells are complex. They involve a lengthy casting time and could easily be interrupted by a surprise attack.
Void walk, on the other hand, is instantaneous. There's no need to worry about gaps in the spell or interruptions. It's as if the void itself answers my call.
Ha ha! I could get used to this power.
Once my experiment concluded, I returned to the cave.
Shadar was already waiting for me there.
"Master, the Patriarch of the Voltan family sent a letter by courier," Shadar said, his fangs still dripping with blood.
"Where's the messenger?" I glanced around but saw no one else.
"That fool disrespected the true Black Dragon Lord, so I ate him," Shadar replied nonchalantly.
"Didn't you know the two armies are currently in battle?" At first, I assumed the two sides were merely feuding without any serious bloodshed, but judging by Shadar's response, it seemed there was more to it.
Whatever, no harm done. Just another casualty.
"Where's the letter? What does it say?" I asked, keen to know what nonsense had prompted this encounter.
Shadar stepped forward and handed me an animal-skin letter, his fingers trembling slightly.
"Master, the letter from the Voltan Patriarch is full of provocative content. It appears he's trying to goad you into coming to Voltan City for a trial, in the presence of Goddess Shar!"
I quickly scanned the letter using my enhanced vision.
The common language of the continent was written across the parchment, and it was clear that the author had some skill with words. The letter began by praising my strength, albeit in a chaotic and disjointed manner. Yet, between the lines, there was a subtle mocking tone—insinuating that a truly powerful dragon only preys on the weak and cowers before the strong.
And then came the invitation, if you could call it that: a request for me to come to Voltan City and accept some sort of trial, all in the name of Goddess Shar.
My first reaction was to scoff. Who writes this kind of drivel? And why would a real black dragon, renowned for its devious cunning, fall into such a trap?
This letter was clearly designed to provoke. The challenge to come to Voltan City for some trial under the Goddess of Darkness was nothing more than a poorly disguised insult.
"This... brain is trapped by the door," I muttered under my breath, unimpressed.
"Lord, these humans truly are arrogant!" Vickers, the goblin leader, said with more conviction than usual. After accepting the twisted seed, his personality had shifted; he was no longer the subservient goblin he once was.
I nodded solemnly. "That Voltan family is strange. They're acting far too hastily."
Normally, even if I've taken control of this territory, I would eventually reclaim what is rightfully mine. If the Voltan family has made enemies of me, then they've made a grave mistake.
I am, after all, a true black dragon.
No one in their right mind would think that a black dragon, known for its cunning, would fall for such a crude bait.
"Master, many of our clan have expressed a desire to join you. Our numbers are growing rapidly," Vickers said, his voice tinged with excitement.
"Boss Doug seems to have recruited a lot of kobolds!"
"Keep it up," I replied, gesturing for him to continue.
To me, these new dependents were better than nothing. They'd help sustain the situation for now, at least.
The goblins and kobolds, while weak on their own, had potential if given the right time and resources. But would I devote my energy to strengthening them? Of course not. I already have an army waiting for me.
If I'm going to use my time and power, it will be better spent securing more ingredients for the feast.
After all, as the feast progresses, the gap between myself and these dependents will only grow wider.
I tapped my claws against my scales, considering my next move.
I looked toward Voltan City, my eyes burning with murderous intent.
They want to slay a dragon?
Then let them try.
