Rebirth: The Journey of an Heiress

Chapter 1122: Urgency

"Since it's a joint attack by both forces, it must be split equally!" The Yan Army soldiers were full of discontent.

The Yan Army soldiers echoed: "Yes! Exactly! Equally! It must be equal!"

The Zhou soldiers' anger flared up again, they rolled up their sleeves and cursed loudly: "Equal my ass! How many troops did we Zhou send out compared to your Yan Kingdom? We deployed so much earlier! While we were deployed, you were still sleeping in your beds, and you have the nerve to talk about equality with us? You just came to take advantage later... and you really think you're something, I'll tell you... you'll get nothing from us!"

"Exactly! Pingdu City was captured by us Zhou, the ambush at Hanwen Mountain was fought by us Zhou, you just came to cheer and want to split half, what a dream!"

The Zhou soldiers became even more enraged: "Last time the Elephant Army besieged Pingdu City, and you rushed over to take advantage only after we'd almost finished the fight, taking away two of the living giant elephants. So many of our Zhou soldiers died, and why didn't you mention sharing spoils according to the number of casualties then? Regardless of how the battle is fought or how people die... the benefits must go to you Yan Kingdom! Do you Yan have any shame left?"

The Yan soldiers, humiliated, stepped forward, the one leading almost poked the face of the Zhou young general with his finger: "In this battle, our Yan lost so many soldiers! It's several times your Zhou's casualties! These giant elephants were bought back by the lives of our fallen brothers, they rightfully belong to us!"

The Zhou young general, looking disgusted by the Yan Army, slapped away the Yan soldier's hand and coldly retorted: "That's a joke. Oh... you lost more lives, so you take more? Then Tianfeng Kingdom lost even more... should we gather up the armor from these giant elephants and send them to Tianfeng Kingdom? Your commander is incompetent, letting so many of you die, and yet you're proud of it?"

The Yan soldier whose hand was slapped away instantly drew his sword: "How dare you insult our Ninth Prince! Brothers, let's fight these Zhou scum!"

Both armies drew their swords...

Suddenly, the sound of a whip cracking through the air echoed outside the north gate of Pingyang City.

The crisp sound landed on the hands of the two leading Yan and Zhou soldiers, making their swords fall to the ground.

Bai Jinzhi restrained her horse with one hand and held a long whip with the other, her face cold as she looked at the Zhou soldiers and Yan Army who were on the verge of fighting.

"What? We just barely defeated the Tianfeng Kingdom across the Danshui River, and you think we've won a great victory and are starting to fight amongst allied nations?" Bai Jinzhi's expression was cold, her voice authoritative and commanding.

Seeing it was Lord of Gaoyi, the Zhou soldiers gritted their teeth and sheathed their swords.

The Yan Army, seeing the Zhou soldiers had already sheathed their swords, put theirs away as well, still looking defiant. Yet, Lord of Gaoyi's reputation for destroying Liang was well known. Even though she was a woman, as soldiers, even the Yan soldiers had a natural respect for strong leaders.

Furthermore, Bai Jinzhi hadn't immediately sided with the Zhou upon arriving, but instead disciplined both sides, which made the Yan soldiers less resistant.

"The division of the spoils from this victory is being discussed between our Emperor and the Ninth Prince of Yan. Everything will be decided by the Emperor and the Ninth Prince. What are you fighting over here for?" Bai Jinzhi calmly retracted her whip and hung it behind her waist.

"Lord of Gaoyi!" The Yan soldiers saluted Bai Jinzhi. "Our Yan suffered heavy losses with the most soldiers dead. We aren't making unreasonable demands, just asking to equally divide the armor on these giant elephants. After all, in warfare, though it's a collaboration... Zhou still needs cooperation from our Yan Kingdom! Since it's a joint effort, it should naturally be shared equally! Especially since so many of our Yan soldiers have died."

"Bah! I've seen shameless people, but never someone as shameless as you Yans! Even in joint work, there should be fairness such as more work, more gain, less work, less gain, right?" The recently subdued anger of the Zhou soldiers flared up again, "According to your shameless Yan logic, next time we Zhou will just lie back during battles and only send people to die near the end of the fight! Anyway, all dead... more deaths mean more benefits! We Zhou will save ourselves the trouble, won't we, brothers?"

The Zhou soldiers echoed in agreement.

"Fine! You Zhou just lie back next time! Go send people to die near the end!" The Yan soldiers shouted in defiance, and the two armies were once again on the brink of conflict.

"The Emperor is here!"

"The Ninth Prince is here!"

From afar, the voices of Wei Zhong and Feng Yao were heard, and Xie Xun quickly rode forward, loudly dismissing the Yan Army, and stood side by side with Bai Jinzhi: "What are you all doing! Rebelling? We just won a small victory, and you're in a hurry to raise swords against your allies?!"

"General Xie! We're dissatisfied! Since it's a joint force between the two countries, and we suffered such heavy casualties, why can't we share the giant elephants with Yan? So many of our brothers died, and all we got is this little bit! Those giant elephants, although still in Hanwen Mountain, weren't they wounded by our brothers risking their lives, allowing Zhou's ambush to succeed?" The soldier cried as he knelt down, "General, our camp... we only have seven brothers left! With such heavy casualties, if we can't get benefits for our Yan Kingdom, why should we fight this war!"

The Yan Army soldiers knelt one after another.

"Yes, General! If those already dead soldiers know their deaths only bring such little gain and the rest belongs to Zhou, they won't rest in peace!"

The Yan Army soldiers, thinking of their fallen comrades, had red-rimmed eyes one by one.

Xie Xun turned his head to glance at Bai Qingyan and Xiao Rongyan, who were approaching on horseback, then looked back at his soldiers, loudly declaring: "Stand up, all of you! The Ninth Prince and I came to Pingdu City to negotiate with the Zhou Emperor mainly about splitting the giant elephants. Originally... my intention was also to split them equally between Zhou and Yan! However, the Empress of Zhou, in her generosity, stated willingness to give the majority of the giant elephants to our Yan Kingdom, so there's no need to cause a scene here!"

The Yan soldiers were quite surprised, not expecting that as they argued for equal shares, the Emperor of Zhou had already expressed willingness to give the majority to Yan Kingdom, making them feel petty.

The Zhou soldiers, upon hearing this, widened their eyes in disbelief and simultaneously knelt towards Bai Qingyan, filled with unwillingness.

Even Bai Jinzhi tightened her grip on the reins and called out, "Eldest Young Lady..."

"Your Majesty, we are not satisfied!"

The Zhou soldiers looked up at Bai Qingyan, their eyes full of urgency.
