Rebirth: Solely Cherished by the Devoted Commander

Chapter 418: Maintaining Value

"Do you think by dawdling upstairs you can keep that two thousand bucks for yourself? Sun Chan's family gave five thousand! And all the appliances were bought by her family—you didn't spend a cent! Get to the bank with me, tomorrow we'll give them the money!" Gu Zishan said coldly.

Wang Guihua was so angry it hurt her chest, "When Gu Juntao got married, his wife didn't ask for anything, so why does Sun Chan need money? What if they find out and argue with me?"

"Then just say a thousand from each family! You can still buy some nice jewelry, hurry up and get dressed to go withdraw the money! If you don't agree, I'll divorce you!" After saying this, Gu Zishan went off to find his ID card and coat.

Wang Guihua was contemplating saving all that money to buy a nice house for Gu Juntao, putting her own name on the property title, ensuring her son would be close to her, and that daughter-in-law couldn't leverage her son against her. But looking at her husband's demeanor, there was no reasoning with him. Being threatened with divorce, she reluctantly went out with him, fuming all the way.

On the way, Gu Zishan kept thinking about how Sun Chan's parents divorced, and though the gossip was a bit ugly, it didn't ruin Sun Chan's marriage. What if I divorced her?

But looking at Wang Guihua's white hair, he could only sigh—forget it, they've been married for so long, he just had to bear with it.

The next day, when Sun Chan and Junming arrived, they received a total of three sets of money—Junming's share, and a thousand each from Gu Zishan and Gu Dongfang's family. Sun Chan smiled and refused, "We don't need much money. No need for all this."

"Even if you don't spend it, you can save it, for future security when you have kids. Having some money brings peace of mind," Gu Zishan insisted on giving the money to his daughter-in-law.

Beside them, Wang Guihua was silent as if her tongue was cut off, clearly displeased.

Last night, Gu Zishan argued with her again, still because of this money. Wang Guihua felt Sun Chan's family didn't actually lack money.

Why dig money from the Gu Family?

She said, "I considered using that money to buy a house for Gu Juntao, since he's no longer in the military. The unit won't provide housing anymore—you don't care, but I have to think about his future! Sun Chan's so greedy for money at such a young age; I must properly ask her tomorrow!"

"Isn't it right for me to give money for my son's wedding? If you feel aggrieved, we'll live apart, I'll move out."

"Why are you saying these things again..."

"I'm not saying it out of anger," Gu Zishan sighed, "We're old enough now, no need for divorce, I won't let you suffer; half the savings go to each family. I won't take it all away. You're free to give it to Gu Juntao as you wish, but don't think my eldest son is dead and forbid me from giving him anything! I've never seen anyone as biased as you, so brazenly biased!"

This wasn't the first time Gu Zishan mentioned divorce.

Gu Zishan was extremely urgent, even detailing how to divide things: "You keep the bed, the furniture. I'll just pack some clothes and give you half the savings. I'll also give you half of my future salary. You won't worry about not having food. As for the old man's side, I'll temporarily stay at the regiment, and later when I retire, I'll rent a house in the suburbs, the rent there is cheap, growing some vegetables would be quite nice."

Wang Guihua burst into tears, not letting him leave: "We've been married a lifetime, why talk of divorce now, do you hate me that much? Now that there's no one left in my family, you look down on me? I refuse to divorce, unless I'm dead!"

Gu Zishan said helplessly, "Wang Guihua, what do you want? You don't want to have a peaceful life, always stirring up trouble, and you refuse to divorce too. Are you deliberately trying to torment our family?"

Wang Guihua could only admit fault, saying she wouldn't interfere anymore; today, she just pretended to be clueless.

Sun Chan already knew about yesterday's incident and understood Wang Guihua's thoughts, so she completely ignored her. She chatted with the Gu Family for a while and then discussed sending invitations and borrowing a car.

Gu Dongfang chuckled, "Leave this to us, you just focus on preparing for the wedding."

Anyway, the banquet would be held at the regiment's auditorium, and greeting some drivers wouldn't take much time.

"The dishes on our side will be done by the chef, ensuring they're delicious and cheap!"

"Sure, we'll pay whatever is due. We can't let the regiment lose out," Junming said.

After discussing things for a while, the two took their leave and went to the gold shop to buy the 'Three Golds.'

Sun Chan said, "I don't have pierced ears, no need for earrings."

He said seriously, "Then let's buy a big gold bracelet. Later, we'll also buy some nice clothes and whatever snow cream and powder compact you want."

Sun Chan laughed, "Don't you mind the cost? They're expensive!" It's said that back then some girls wanted good cosmetics and clothes and argued with their fiancé, refusing to register for marriage, leaving the groom to squat down crying.

Junming laughed, "Why should I mind? This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to spend freely, must do it perfectly."

"Don't say that, when we have money in the future, we can buy anything we want." Sun Chan was confident, as long as she worked hard, things wouldn't be bad, and she'd never restrain herself from spending.

She had another chance at life and understood material things well.

As for gold, she planned to buy more. Although she didn't like wearing gold jewelry, gold was only sixty yuan per gram now, but in ten years, it'd be hundreds or thousands. Gold retains value, and now there's money to buy more. Even if there's depreciation, it would still make a profit.

So she didn't choose styles, just looked at quantity and purity, buying several big bracelets and a gold necklace, spending over five thousand yuan. If other money weren't locked in fixed deposits and treasury bonds, she'd have bought even more.

While paying, she checked Junming's expression—everything normal.

She smiled faintly, "Don't feel bad, it's for value retention. Later, we'll convert it to money, better than bank interest."

Junming patted her head: "You, always thinking about making money, don't you want to look pretty?"

"I don't need things to look beautiful, right?" she smiled at Junming.

Her bright and charming smile tugged at Junming's heart—a truly adorable girl. And in a few days, she'd be his wife.

After buying gold, she and Junming bought other things, several shirts and pants for Junming, a belt, two pairs of shoes, snow cream and hand lotion for herself, and a big red shawl for covering her head during the wedding.
