Chapter 223 The Little Wench
"Hehe...! Have you made any progress on the task I gave you?" Auntie Sun looked at Mo Yaner earnestly, hoping to hear some good news from her.
Mo Yaner knew she was asking about the gold and silver jewelry and was extremely annoyed in her heart. Because of this pointless affair, her family had nearly frozen to death on a cold night.
Yanyan: "What are you talking about?"
Seeing Mo Yaner feign ignorance, Auntie Sun became very angry, but since she needed her assistance, she dared not offend her. Trying hard to suppress her anger, she forced a smile and said, "The matter of helping me find the jewelry."
"Those pieces of jewelry, my mother said she didn't take them, so she didn't take them. She has never lied to me since I was little. Don't come looking for me again. After all, my mother was disowned by my father because of you. If I took your side, people would say I'm unfilial," Mo Yaner said with a disgusted expression and an impatient look on her face.
"You promised me you would help me get the jewelry back," Auntie Sun said, as she became anxious upon hearing that Mo Yaner would no longer help her.
"I've changed my mind now, is that not okay?"
"No, it's not."
"It seems we don't have any kind of contract between us."
"I promised to give you five taels of silver."
"Where's the silver?" Mo Yaner spread her hands.
"I don't have it right now, but once we find the jewelry, I'll give it to you, okay?" Auntie Sun considered for a moment and then, with a pained expression, said, "I'll add another five taels. How about that? That would make ten taels in total!"
"You're always promising me pie in the sky. I've done so much for you and haven't even seen a shadow of a copper coin. I was so foolish before, letting you lead me around in circles," Mo Yaner said, laughing at herself as she now saw the situation for what it was.
Impervious to pleas, Auntie Sun became thoroughly furious and burst into a volley of abuse: "You little cheap person, you have no respect for kindness. If I hadn't had your father write you a letter to call you back, you would still be huddled in some poor mountain hollow being pursued by debt collectors. Perhaps your whole family would have been chopped up by now, and you wouldn't even have a life to stand here and argue with me!"
Then, huffing and puffing, she added one more line: "You ungrateful cunning person."
This set off a landmine for Mo Yaner, who became livid upon hearing Auntie Sun's words. Without saying a word, she turned and walked into the yard, approached Big Bull, snatched the woodcutting axe from his hands, and turned to charge back out.
"Wife, wife, why did big sister grab my axe?" Big Bull looked towards the main gate, then at Xuexue, completely bewildered.
Xuexue was also curious! She stopped chopping wood and turned to look towards the gate.
The scene at the entrance of the old residence was bustling and dramatic, as a chase unfolded.
"Ah...! Help me!" It was Auntie Sun, fleeing in disarray while crying for help.
"You vixen spirit! Not only did you take my father, but you also curse my whole family to be chopped to death. Today, I'll split you open first to rid the world of your malice," Mo Yaner said angrily, ready to vent on Auntie Sun for crossing her bottom line by cursing her family to death.
"You wretched girl, you are utterly unfilial! I am your stepmother, how dare you strike at me? Little... be careful of the thunder... thunder striking you." Auntie Sun, panting for breath while fleeing, exhausted to death, but with the frightening flash of the axe behind her, had no choice but to keep running, looking utterly pitiful.
"Pah! You call yourself an elder? That's just laughable," Mo Yaner snapped back relentlessly.
The commotion outside disturbed Madam Xie inside. As she stepped out of the courtyard, she saw Mo Yaner with a shiny woodcutting axe, chasing after Auntie Sun. This scared her half to death: "Xuexue, Xuexue, hurry and stop your big sister. Don't let her do something foolish."
