Chapter 13: Chapter 12: A Force of Nature
It was supposed to be a normal day.
Peter Parker sat at the Avengers Tower lounge, his legs propped up on the coffee table as he munched on a slice of pizza. The Speed Force coursing through his body meant he could burn calories faster than anyone else in the room—which was saying something, considering Thor was demolishing a stack of cheeseburgers two seats away.
"Seriously," Peter said between bites, gesturing with his pizza, "how does this not count as a team meeting? We're all here. Thor's eating, Natasha's glaring at her phone, and Tony's… doing whatever Tony does in his lab."
Natasha Romanoff looked up from her phone and smirked. "If you call this a meeting, you'll scare Steve off. He doesn't approve of 'team bonding through junk food.'"
Thor chuckled, finishing another burger. "The Captain would insist on sparring or strategy drills. This young PhantomWeb is far more enjoyable."
Peter grinned, leaning back. "I like you, Thor. You get it."
The peaceful atmosphere was interrupted by the sudden blaring of the television. The room's large flat screen, usually tuned to some news channel, caught everyone's attention with the words Breaking News.
"This just in," the anchorwoman said, her voice tense. "Harlem is under siege as two massive creatures wreak havoc in the streets. Witnesses have identified one as the Hulk, but the second creature, resembling a larger, more grotesque version of the Hulk, remains unidentified. Authorities are urging civilians to evacuate immediately."
Peter's stomach dropped as the camera panned to the scene. (Abomination). Hulk was locked in a brutal brawl with an enormous, scaly creature—Abomination. Buildings crumbled around them, cars were flung through the air, and terrified civilians scrambled to escape.
Thor's expression darkened. "That is no ordinary foe. The creature looks like a twisted cousin of Banner's rage."
Natasha shot to her feet, immediately tapping on her earpiece. "Tony, we've got a problem in Harlem. Hulk's fighting someone. Abomination, by the looks of it."
Peter was already standing, lightning crackling faintly around him. "Do we suit up and roll out, or do I get a head start?"
Natasha shot him a sharp look. "Wait for backup."
But Peter was already vibrating in place, the Speed Force tugging at him like an itch. "Hulk doesn't look like he has time for a group text. I'll keep things contained until you guys get there!"
Before Natasha could argue, Peter zipped out of the room in a blur, leaving a gust of wind in his wake.
"Does he ever listen?" Natasha muttered, shaking her head.
Thor chuckled, reaching for Mjolnir. "The boy's spirit is commendable, if reckless. Let us follow swiftly."
Peter arrived in Harlem seconds later, weaving through fleeing civilians. The scene was even worse in person. Hulk and Abomination were locked in a brutal melee, their blows shaking the ground like earthquakes. Smoke and debris filled the air, and Peter's enhanced senses were already on high alert.
"Alright, Peter," he muttered to himself, "you've got speed, webs, and the ability to not get squished. Let's see if that's enough."
He zipped to the frontlines, using his webs to pull a mother and her child out of harm's way as a car came hurtling toward them. "Gotcha!" he said, depositing them safely behind a barricade.
"Come out, PhantomWeb!" Abomination's deep, guttural voice bellowed, his glowing yellow eyes locking onto Peter. "You think you can meddle in this fight?"
Peter groaned, sliding to a stop in front of the creature. "What is it with bad guys knowing my name? Can't I just blend in for once?"
Hulk roared, seizing Abomination's distraction to tackle him to the ground. "HULK SMASH YOU FIRST!"
Peter winced as the two titans crashed into a building, bricks and glass raining everywhere. "Okay," he muttered, webbing up some debris before it hit civilians, "this is officially above my pay grade."
But he didn't run. He couldn't.
As Peter zipped around the battlefield, evacuating civilians and distracting Abomination just enough to keep him off-balance, the roar of a Quinjet filled the sky. Reinforcements had arrived.
Thor and Iron Man descended from the Quinjet, Natasha right behind them.
"Nice of you guys to join the party!" Peter called, dodging a car thrown by Abomination.
"Party?" Tony said, his voice crackling through Peter's earpiece. "Kid, this isn't a party. This is an insurance nightmare."
Thor grinned, twirling Mjolnir. "Do not fear, young Webrunner. The might of Asgard has arrived!"
Peter zipped over to Natasha as she surveyed the scene. "What's the plan, boss? Besides not dying?"
Natasha's expression was calm but focused. "Containment. Thor and Hulk keep Abomination busy. Tony and I focus on evacuating the area. You—" she pointed at Peter—"stay fast, stay safe, and don't let him hit you."
"Copy that," Peter said with a salute, vanishing in a blur of motion.
The battle escalated as the Avengers joined forces. Thor's hammer strikes clashed with Abomination's brute strength, while Iron Man peppered him with precise repulsor blasts. Hulk, reinvigorated by his allies, slammed into his enemy with unrelenting fury.
Peter darted through the chaos, using his speed to outmaneuver Abomination and keep the creature off-balance. He webbed up rubble, redirected falling debris, and even managed to land a few lightning-fast punches on Abomination's armor-like skin.
"Hey, big guy!" Peter yelled, zipping past Abomination's face. "You ever consider therapy? It might help with the anger issues!"
Abomination roared in frustration, swinging wildly.
Natasha's voice crackled through Peter's earpiece. Parker, you're doing great. Keep him distracted. Thor's about to bring the hammer down."
"Roger that!" Peter replied, dodging another swipe.
Thor leapt into the air, Mjolnir crackling with energy. With a deafening roar, he slammed the hammer down on Abomination's chest, the impact creating a shockwave that flattened cars and cracked the pavement.
Hulk seized the opportunity, delivering a massive punch that sent Abomination crashing into the side of a building. The creature groaned, his body going limp.
It was over.
As the dust settled, the Avengers regrouped. Thor clapped Peter on the back, nearly knocking him over. "You fought well, young one! Your speed is unmatched."
Peter grinned, brushing dust off his suit. "Thanks, Thor. You're not bad yourself—though I think I got more hits in."
Tony landed beside them, his faceplate retracting. "Not bad, kid. You ever think about making this a full-time gig?"
Peter laughed. "I'll think about it. But only if I get a cool nickname like 'The Lightning Bug.'"
Natasha smirked. "You've got guts, Walker. Reckless, but gutsy. We'll call you next time."
As the Quinjet roared overhead, Peter looked at the Avengers, his grin widening. For the first time, he felt like part of the team.
But deep down, he knew there was still so much to learn. And as long as danger kept coming, the Webrunner would be there—faster than ever.
