Chapter 11: Chapter 10: Clash with the Rhino
The streets of New York were unusually quiet. Peter Parker —otherwise known as the Phantom Web—zipped across rooftops, his crimson and blue suit reflecting the neon lights of the city. The Speed Force surged within him, crackling like bottled lightning in his veins, making him feel invincible. Tonight, he was on patrol, sensing the usual low-level trouble brewing in the underbelly of the city.
That's when he heard it.
A deafening crash shattered the calm, followed by a guttural roar that reverberated through the concrete jungle. Turning toward the sound, Peter spotted a hulking figure bulldozing through parked cars and streetlights as if they were made of paper.
It was Alexei Sytsevich—once just a criminal thug, now transformed into a mountain of muscle encased in an indestructible suit designed to mimic a rhinoceros called Rihno. He wasn't subtle, and clearly, he didn't care.
Peter skidded to a halt on a nearby rooftop, his enhanced senses tingling.
"Great," he muttered, cracking his knuckles. "And here I thought it was going to be an easy night."
Before Peter could move, Rhino bellowed, "Come out, Webrunner! You think you're fast? Let's see you dodge this!"
With that, Rhino picked up an empty food truck and hurled it into the street. Peter blinked as the truck arced through the air, his mind processing the trajectory in microseconds.
"Showtime," Peter quipped, vanishing into a blur of motion.
In the blink of an eye, he was on the ground, the Speed Force carrying him faster than the human eye could follow. The truck froze in mid-air from his perspective, its rotation slow and predictable. Peter sidestepped it effortlessly, landing in front of the massive villain.
"Hey, Alexei!" Peter called out, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Didn't your mom ever tell you not to play with your food?"
Rhino growled, charging forward like a freight train. His footsteps shook the ground as he barreled toward Peter, his horn lowered like a battering ram.
Peter smirked. "Alright, big guy. Let's dance."
As Rhino closed the distance, Peter darted left, the Speed Force propelling him just out of reach. Time seemed to slow as Peter zipped around Rhino, his movements too fast for the villain to track.
But Rhino was just a brute but swinging quicker than Peter expected, Rhino swung a massive fist, narrowly missing Peter's head. The shockwave from the punch shattered the windows of nearby cars.
"Okay, note to self: Don't get cocky," Peter muttered, zipping backward to gain some distance.
Rhino charged again, but this time Peter was ready. With the Speed Force at his command, he vibrated his molecules, allowing Rhino's charge to pass harmlessly through him.
"Nice try," Peter said, spinning around Rhino and delivering a flurry of lightning-fast punches to the villain's armored back. Sparks flew as Peter's fists connected, the kinetic energy from the Speed Force amplifying each hit.
Rhino roared in frustration, swinging wildly. Peter ducked, weaved, and darted around the enraged brute, using his speed to keep Rhino off balance.
"Stand still, you little pest!" Rhino shouted, slamming his fists into the ground. The impact created a shockwave that knocked Peter off his feet.
Peter tumbled through the air but recovered in an instant, landing gracefully on a lamppost. "You know," he said, tapping his chin theatrically, "for a guy who's supposed to be unstoppable, you're kind of slow."
That did it. Rhino roared louder than ever, charging at Peter with everything he had.
Peter grinned. "Hook, line, and sinker."
As Rhino reached the lamppost, Peter disappeared in a burst of speed, running in circles around the villain. The Speed Force crackled around him, creating a vortex of wind and energy. Rhino stumbled, disoriented by the whirlwind.
"You like tornadoes, Alexei?" Peter called out, his voice echoing from every direction. "Because you're about to be the star of one!"
The vortex intensified, lifting Rhino off the ground. Peter moved faster and faster, pouring every ounce of his energy into the storm. Finally, with a burst of speed, Peter darted into the eye of the vortex and delivered a single, devastating punch to Rhino's chest.
The impact sent the villain flying backward, his armored body skidding across the pavement and crashing into a parked van. Rhino groaned, the fight clearly knocked out of him.
Peter stood over the fallen giant, his chest heaving. "And that's why you don't mess with the PhantomWeb," he said, brushing imaginary dust off his suit.
As the sound of approaching sirens filled the air, Peter glanced at the horizon. His job was done, but the night was still young. With a burst of speed, he vanished into the city, leaving the wreckage—and the Rhino—behind.
