Chapter 82: [82] Eurus
As Kael rained down destruction on the battlefield, the other three members of the party were left with the two to do the remaining mimics.
Whooosh!
The wind howled as a gale burst out of Jasmine's palms, sending her hair and clothes in a spiral.
Eurus lifted his hands to prevent debris from entering his eyes as the wind tore forward, colliding with a mimic with a violent whisper.
Yet, the mimic was unfazed. The attack had only managed to push it a few steps back, the monster completely unharmed.
Jasmine gritted her teeth and released another violent gust.
In front of them was a minotaur. Two pointed horns, gleaming red eyes, and a body that looked adapted for pulling out trees—from their roots.
Eurus frowned, breathing heavily as he glanced to the left.
"This girl…"
Clang!
Jade jumped back as a massive mimic slammed its paw into the earth. The ground shattered, muddy debris flying high into the air as the beast lunged, growling with two heads while the last head's maw was wide open.
A Cerberus.
Although the mimics could not manifest the true strength of such terrible beasts, they were horrifying enough.
Crystals erupted from the ground just below Jade's feet, her clothes fluttering in the wind as she was carried by the crystals.
She curved around the beast, confusing it as she turned around its back.
Before it could even turn, a large crystal spike exploded from the floor, charging right at its soft underbelly, but before it could collide, the Cerberus spun—
Rawr!
It growled, unleashing a powerful shockwave that shattered the crystals on contact.
The Cerberus stared down at her, its eyes glowing menacingly as it took a step toward the girl.
But Jade did not retreat. Common sense would have been to evade, use the trees for cover, attack from the blind spots…
But instead, Jade traced her hand through the air like an artist running their paintbrush through thin air.
And out of the path came a beautiful weapon. A dark blue scythe with serrated edges and a spear-tip end.
She glared at the beast, flicking it the middle finger just before they collided, sending tremors throughout the forest.
BAM!
Eurus immediately glanced at the minotaur Jasmine was facing. The beast had struck with its large axe, shattering the earth and sending a long crack charging toward her.
Before the crack could reach her, he sprinted forward, reaching her in seconds and pulling her away.
Then he reached into the darkness and pulled out a blade of shadows.
As he communed with the shadow, the darkness told him everything he needed to know.
The minotaur's habits, its attack patterns, and every single weakness the monster had. "You've done enough," he said, his tone cold.
"Leave the rest to me."
"Are you sure—"
Whoosh!
Before Jasmine could complete her sentence, Eurus disappeared, his body a blur of shadows as he cut through the distance between himself and the beast.
As he charged, his figure twisted into something that could hardly be called human.
For each shadow he stepped on, dark tendrils reached out to him, clinging onto his body and melding with his flesh.
His head was padded, covered in a devilish helmet, his feet enlarged, each step becoming thunderous, and his body was shielded in a veil of shadows.
Seconds later, what stood in front of them was no longer Eurus, but an incarnation of death—an amalgamation of shadows.
An abyssal fiend.
He stood tall, matching the minotaur in height. The shadow fluttered by his sides like a terrible cape and his muscles rippled with unhinged power.
Eurus reached out to the air and suddenly, a gigantic staff of shadows appeared, with a rounded tip.
He pulled his arm backward as he appeared in front of the minotaur, lightning streaking in the skies above as he brought the staff down with a resounding force.
The mimic's eyes widened and for a second, they were filled with fear. It staggered back, lifting its hands to shield itself but it was far too late.
Boom!
An invisible shockwave cut through the area, shaking the air and causing the raindrops to simmer and burst before reaching the ground.
The minotaur's head was burst open, spilling blood upon the muddy floors.
With a snarl, he brought the mace down once again, this time on its shoulder.
Crack!
Bone caved like cookies, a sickening snap filling his ears.
Eurus smiled, his mouth dripping saliva and his face locked in a maddening look.
"More, more!"
Swoosh! Bang!
The minotaur fell to its knees, its head down like a criminal waiting for his execution.
Eurus lifted his staff and the weapon twisted once more, transforming into a double-edged axe.
This was the power of the number two student in first year, a prodigy amongst prodigies.
"Let your anguish fill the void of the abyss."
The bearer of a relic forged out of the ecstasy of combat.
But just as the axe came down, seconds away from tearing apart the mimic, the beast changed.
Normally the mimics would simply change from one part at a time, but fueled by desperation, this mimic exploded.
Its flesh suddenly burst apart, spilling blood in all directions. Then the flesh moved back together, gluing atop itself and reforming.
The sound was disturbing, like multiple snapping bones and sloshing body fluids.
Its body was reforged, twisting terribly, its bones rearranging. Thick skin gave way to a furry coat, its tail morphing into a stinger that looked as though it was forged in black steel.
The mimic had transformed into a beast capable of matching a demon. Something with that same demonic drive.
It roared the moment its face took form—a gigantic lion's head. Its feet bore massive talons resembling that of an eagle, wings burst from its sides sending wind rushing past them, and a large stinger sprouted out of its back.
"A manticore huh?"
Eurus smiled.
"How delightful."
The mimic was very much alive, and as for Eurus… his bloodlust was not yet dated.
