Rebirth Of The Bastard Spirit Summoner

Chapter 60: [60] Silver Back Bears

Stark glanced from bear to bear, his gaze sharp and focused. He was keeping an eye out for even the lightest inclination of movement.

But there was none. Right now, the bears were taking their time to observe their prey, their mouths dripping vicious saliva.

Silverback bears had all the features regular bears had, except they were far larger, had long claws sharp enough to rip a tree in half, and on their back was fuzzy silver fur.

"Jade, shall we?"

The girl smiled. "Don't drag your feet, I want to have some fruit before the guild runs out."

He laughed, "You speak like silverbacks are easy prey."

Stark glanced back at the beast just as the first one lunged at him, unable to hear her response.

He moved, charging right at the beast but darted to the side at the last moment, allowing the beast to rush past him.

Then he slammed his foot into the back of its knee, aiming to bring it down, but his foot just bounced against its leg, doing no damage.

The beast turned to him, its green eyes gleaming menacingly as it slashed.

Clang!

Stark met the strike with his serrated dagger, dragging the dagger like a saw down to its fingers and ripping out chunks of flesh.

Rawrrr!

It growled in pain as it went back a step, then with a burning rage, the beast lunged at him, its arms extended.

'Bingo!'

Stark reached for his sword, about to rip its guts open when suddenly—

Bam!

He lifted his sword just in time, just as another bear appeared at his side. Claw met steel in a tremorous collision, the force sending Stark's body banging against a large tree.

Dazed, he blinked, only to see a large claw charging at his head.

Slash!

Blood spurted out like a leaking hose as Stark severed wrist from bone, the bear's arm lying uselessly on the floor.

As the first bear staggered back, Stark grabbed the severed hand, then he listened.

Pounding footsteps, scattering leaves, anxious hungry grunts…

The second bear was galloping from behind him, and then it pounced, but Stark turned just in that moment and threw the severed arm into its face with so much force that the leaves blew past him.

Crash!

Claws in the eyes, blood on the face… his aim had hit true, and now the bear was staggering back, swinging wide.

Stark easily slithered his way through its defenses and stuck his sword right into its chest, ending its life.

One down…

The bear with the severed hand had returned, but this time it had come with friends, two to be exact, one on each side.

The bear groaned in pain, as though it was laying its complaints to its brothers, and the bear next to him smacked him on the head, angrily gesturing in Stark's direction.

It was as though they were expressing their disappointment at his failure.

Stark raised a brow.

"You are an awakener, aren't you? No need to hide it, do you plan on defeating all those bears without your skills?" came Kael's amused voice.

Stark ignored him, instead he dodged as an even larger claw tore past his face.

Whoosh!

Wind suddenly blew past Stark as Kael instantly appeared next to him.

"Silverback bears… not the strongest, but can be troublesome to beginners. Yet you are as calm as a tranquil lake."

With a snarl the annoyed beast lunged at Kael, bringing both arms down like a battering ram.

It was moving so fast that its fur was being blown back by the wind, and its saliva was spilling by its sides.

Yet, Kael did not budge, he simply lifted a single finger, and drove it right into the skull of the beast.

The results were catastrophic.

Boom!

Skull fragments and brain matter exploded like projectiles, scattering all around them.

Stark's mouth hung open.

'What the hell was that?'

Kael did not seem like an enhancer and he had not used any spell. Yet, he had crushed the bear with just his finger?

Stark glanced at the man, his eyes narrowing slightly. If he were to fight him, how would he win?

Nothing came to mind…

That was just his finger. What would happen when he summoned whatever dreadful beast he has contracted?

'The academy Crusaders are on another level.'

Stark had no time to ponder on it, he was still in the midst of a battle after all.

As headless corpses fell beside Kael, he stepped on its back then sighed.

"I guess I should not interrupt your battle…"

With a wave of his fingers, a green aura suddenly surrounded him.

One of the bears that had been barrelling towards him suddenly stopped and looked around as though he had vanished into thin air, and then it turned to him—

Clang!

Stark blocked a slash from the bear and flipped over a second beast, managing to slice off its ear.

Kael cleared his throat.

"They say to be awakened, you need a certain degree of madness… that is why a number of professors like myself believe awakeners are generally unstable."

"Tell me Stark, do you know why the second name for awakeners is sinners?"

As blood was spilled, and flesh split apart, Stark gave him a deadpan look. "I'm kind of busy right now as you can see…"

He leaned back, as a bear leaped over him, then he dug both his sword and dagger into its gut—dragging a bloody line through it and freeing its entrails.

Then he spun his body and flung his dagger, the blade exploding against another beast's head, cracking the skull and shredding its brain.

The monster, now dead, collapsed and slid through the carpet of leaves, before coming to a halt in front of Stark.

He placed a foot on its head and ripped out the dagger, bringing out bone fragments as he did.

"Tch."

It was the first day and he was already soaked in blood.

Stark glanced in Jade's direction, just to see a shit show of blood and gore.

It seemed a good number of silverbacks had surrounded her, and like a butcher she decimated them with chilling brutality, her delicate form looking not so delicate in the moment…

'What a monster…'

Thankfully, as his summon, Jade's kills counted as his kills. Meaning he would be gaining a good number of spirit shards today.

Taking a deep breath, Stark slowly turned back to meet another group of bears.

"Don't you guys ever end?"

Swooosh!

He yanked the hilt of his dagger, and a chain came out of it—then he stuck it into the edge of his sword, connecting the two weapons together.

With a composed smirk, Stark rushed at the group.

'It's time to grind some ascension points!'
