Chapter 230: The Four Slaying Immortal Swords Thwart Jiang Shang, the Primordial Laozi Descends to the Mortal World
Duobao, Gui Ling, Wudang, and Jin Ling each carried Tongtian's Four Slaying Immortal Swords and headed for the Boundary Pass. At the very moment Tongtian activated the Four Slaying Immortal Swords, Laozi, Primordial, and the other three Saints immediately sensed it.
The expressions of the three Saints varied greatly: Primordial sneered coldly, Laozi sighed helplessly, Zhunti and Jieyin were ecstatic beyond words, while Nuwa remained indifferent and emotionless.
The battle between the Chan Sect and the Jie Sect had nothing to do with her; as long as it didn't involve Li Mingzhu, she generally wouldn't intervene.
Li Mingzhu, who was constantly observing the movements within the Primordial World, naturally deduced this development. Though anxious, he had no effective solution at hand.
After all, he was still being suppressed at this time. While he could move freely within the North Sea, he could not step out of it even a single step.
Feeling helpless, Li Mingzhu embraced a "try everything" mentality and sent Yang Chan to Nuwa Palace once. As for whether Nuwa would lend a hand, Li Mingzhu wasn't certain.
It was merely to give things a shot. The Slaying Immortal Sword Formation was indeed formidable, and could only be broken by four Saints together.
If it were just Laozi and Primordial, the outcome of the battle would be difficult to predict. However, there were still Zhunti and Jieyin!
These two cunning schemers were waiting precisely for this moment. How could they not interfere?
Even if Primordial refrained from asking them, they would involve themselves. Not to mention, Primordial was bound to ask them to act. While it would incur karmic debts, for Primordial, breaking Tongtian's Slaying Immortal Sword Formation outweighed the risk of karmic entanglement.
What Primordial did not know was that this karma later almost severed the inheritance of the Chan Sect.
Granting power to the Western realm and watching it grow is no different from nurturing a tiger that would one day threaten its master.
This was the root of Laozi's helplessness; despite having seen through everything, he could do nothing to change things. After all, the grand momentum of Divine Enthronement was set, and he too could not overturn it.
Meanwhile, Duobao and the others set up the Slaying Immortal Formation at the Boundary Pass, and Jiang Ziya's army swiftly advanced to that location.
Duobao and the four others meditated within the formation. As Jiang Ziya's army approached, they rose together to face him.
The aura of the four Quasi-Saints was stunning; their emergence brought immense pressure, no less intimidating than that of Kong Xuan in the past.
"Where is Jiang Ziya?" Duobao sneered coldly. Though he did not deliberately unleash his Quasi-Saint aura, the opposing army of a million soldiers was still left trembling in shock.
"Jiang Shang is here. Greetings, Brother Duobao!"
Jiang Ziya rode atop his Four-Bulge Beast, slowly approaching from the army. Though fearful of Duobao, he had become accustomed to such situations after all he had experienced.
"I've set up a formation, the Slaying Immortal Formation. Dare you challenge it?"
Duobao wasted no time in exchanging pleasantries with Jiang Ziya, directly stating his intent. "I've arranged the Slaying Immortal Formation; do you dare attempt to break it?"
Upon hearing this, Jiang Ziya looked toward the formation ahead. Black clouds loomed ominously, killing intent permeated the air, and a horrifying scene unfolded before his eyes.
"I dare to try, but now is not the time. I shall return in three days!"
Knowing the terrifying power of the Slaying Immortal Formation, Jiang Ziya dared not rush in. He instead opted for a delaying tactic.
He was fully aware of his limitations; with his abilities alone, there was no way to break the formation. Only when the Golden Immortals of the Chan Sect arrived would there be hope of success.
"Jiang Shang, what does waiting three days matter? Just don't end up hiding like a coward when the time comes," Duobao mocked as he and the others returned to the Slaying Immortal Formation.
Duobao clearly understood Jiang Ziya's schemes but did not obstruct him. After all, he was waiting precisely for the Chan Sect Golden Immortals.
Otherwise, merely killing Jiang Ziya wouldn't be satisfying enough.
Moreover, Jiang Ziya was destined for Divine Enthronement; he could not be killed. Duobao was well aware of this fact.
Three days later, Randeng, along with eleven other Golden Immortals, arrived at the Boundary Pass alongside the Southern Pole Immortal Elder. Yun Zhongzi, however, had long since entered seclusion.
Having detected the presence of the Chan Sect disciples, Duobao Taoist sent forth a blast of Palm Thunder, scattering red mist to manifest the formation.
From atop the reed canopy, the Chan Sect immortals gazed down. As the red mist cleared, the Array Map was revealed in all its formidable power: Killing intent surged, dark clouds billowed, eerie fog swirled, bitter winds howled—sometimes visible, sometimes concealed; sometimes rising, sometimes falling; ever unpredictable, shifting without pause.
Since breaking the formation required careful observation, Duobao did not interfere. With the abilities of the Chan Sect individuals, how could they possibly discern the true essence of the Slaying Immortal Sword Formation?
Among the twelve primary disciples, eight or nine of them eagerly approached the formation. Randeng Taoist could not stop them; all rose together from the reed canopy and approached to examine the formation closely. Upon arrival, they found an awe-inspiring, chilling sight that sent shivers down their spines.
The Chan Sect disciples examined the Slaying Immortal Formation closely. Suspended to the east, they saw the Slaying Immortal Sword; to the south hung the Slaughter Immortal Sword; to the west was the Imprisoning Immortal Sword; and to the north, the Exterminating Immortal Sword. The formation was guarded systematically by entrances and exits, permeating with killing intent and shrouded by eerie winds.
As the disciples greedily observed the arrangement, a song emanated from within:
"Blades and swords, how to escape Slaying's doom;
Love's devil, thought's devil, unbidden flames loom.
Today is grim; life and death are mine.
Yuxu Palace beckons calamity and crime.
Heart-piercing treasures—turn back, see past lies.
Close by, chaos will rise.
No shelter from this demise.
Relying on talent, crushed by fate's surprise!"
From within the formation, Duobao Taoist sang his song. Randeng said, "Fellow Daoists, hear that haunting melody—can such a man be called kindhearted? Let us return to the reed canopy and wait for the Master Teacher; he will surely provide a solution."
Before Randeng could finish, as they were about to turn back, Duobao Taoist leaped forth from within the formation, wielding his sword, and cried fiercely: "Guang Chengzi, don't think of leaving! I have come!"
Enraged, Guang Chengzi shouted, "Duobao Taoist, are we now at your Biyou Palace, where you outnumber us and repeatedly humiliate us? Moreover, your Master Teacher ordered you, but you defy him still—setting up this Slaying Immortal Formation. We may violate killing taboos, but you and your people are entrapped in karma, and hence construct these sinful obstructions!"
