Chapter 131: Report
When Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu arrived in Villa Eight, they found the affiliated teams and other members of Team Legends waiting in the compound.
At a glance, everyone was cold, but they were in good spirits.
After all, they had just accomplished a difficult task without losing any team members.
"Boss, did the handover go well?" Someone asked, and everyone turned to Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu.
Seeing this, Qin Wu nodded, and Mo Chenxuan spoke.
"It went well but…" He said, narrowed his eyes, and quickly continued.
"First, we didn't get all our rewards. However, we signed a contract, and the remainder will be delivered at the end of January."
"Second, a lot of eyes will be on us from now on. Avoid being alone, especially in remote areas. Do you understand?"
Hearing the question, everyone turned solemn and immediately nodded.
They weren't stupid.
Their team was too conspicuous during the refinery mission, and for that, they would surely pay a price.
Seeing that everyone understood, Mo Chenxuan nodded and looked at the affiliated teams.
"You chose not to submit the fuel you collected." He stated, and the teams nodded.
"Don't worry, boss. We haven't forgotten our promise."
Before the mission, Mo Chenxuan gave the affiliated teams two options.
The first option was to hand over their collected fuel in exchange for crystal weapons, and the second was to retain the fuel but give half to the main team.
At first, the affiliated teams planned to exchange most of their collection for crystal weapons.
However, experiencing the bone-deep cold over the past few days, they realised that an apocalypse winter wasn't easy to survive.
Considering this, they decided to retain their fuel in hopes of safely surviving the coming winter.
Since everyone was on the same page, the space ability users took out half of their fuel, and Qin Wu immediately collected it.
"It's cold and we are all tired. Go back and have a good rest." Qin Wu said and prepared to send everyone away, but suddenly remembered something.
"The team shops will be replenished in the next few days. You can come over whenever you are free." Qin Wu said, and everyone couldn't help but be excited.
After that, the team separated and everyone went to their houses.
Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu were no different.
After entering the villa, Qin Wu flumped on the sofa and sighed.
"I have missed this place." She said.
"Mmh." Mo Chenxuan agreed.
Although they didn't suffer too many hardships when they were out on the mission, their car was not as comfortable as the villa.
"I don't want to go on a mission any time soon."
"It will be New Year's soon. We can stay in the base until after the new year."
"New year…" Qin Wu muttered and sighed.
Before the apocalypse, everyone looked forward to the new year.
They bought new clothes, fireworks, and prepared feasts.
Unfortunately, in the apocalypse, the new year was just the start of a new year, and not a holiday.
There would be no new clothes, no fireworks, and no feasts.
Thinking of this, Qin Wu couldn't help but feel a little depressed.
However, she soon got over her depression and turned to Mo Chenxuan.
"Chenxuan, shall we celebrate the new year?" She asked.
"Do you want to?"
"We can invite everyone for hotpot and warm wine. It will boost the team morale."
"Okay." Mo Chenxuan immediately agreed.
That night, the two shared a meal with the Zhang couple, had a hot shower, and slept in their villa bedroom.
At nine the next morning, they had a sumptuous breakfast before inviting the Zhang couple to report on the recent base news.
"What's the situation of the base?" Mo Chenxuan asked, and the Zhang couple exchanged a glance before sighing.
"It's not very good." Uncle Zhang said and began explaining.
Everyone expected a cold winter.
However, they still underestimated the situation.
As a result, some weak and old people had already died from exposure.
Hearing this, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu frowned.
Technically, the start of winter was a few days away.
Wasn't it a bad sign that people had begun dying even before the official start of winter?
Thinking of this, Mo Chenxuan squeezed Qin Wu's hand with a thoughtful expression.
"We brought back a lot of fuel. Let's hope the base leaders will do the right thing." He said, and a trace of ruthlessness flashed in his eyes.
He and Qin Wu went out of their way to submit twenty million litres of fuel.
If the base leaders withheld this fuel and allowed ordinary survivors to needlessly die, Mo Chenxuan would not mind donning his Night Shadows mask and executing a few sinners.
"I also hope they will." Qin Wu said, entertaining the same thoughts as Mo Chenxuan.
"What else has happened?"
"You should have noticed that the base is more crowded?" Uncle Zhang asked, and the two nodded.
"Some neighbouring small bases were attacked and nearly annihilated. The survivors rushed to our base, seeking refuge."
"It's only natural." Qin Wu said, and Uncle Zhang nodded before continuing.
"It's natural, but the base is overpopulated. Tensions have been rising for a while now, and there are frequent fights, especially in zones D and E."
"What are the base leaders doing?"
"They are recruiting more police and the army." Uncle Zhang said.
Because of the coming winter, the base was forced to accommodate more survivors than it could comfortably handle.
As a result, the leaders had no choice but to increase police presence, hoping to maintain the superficial peace.
"It's not a lasting solution." Qin Wu said, and Mo Chenxuan nodded.
"Things will get worse as winter becomes harsher."
"Young master…" Uncle Zhang called, his lips curled in a smile.
"The leaders have foreseen that outcome and have already started making preparations."
Hearing this, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu also smiled.
"You mean…" Mo Chenxuan started, and Uncle Zhang nodded.
"It's what the young master and young madam have been waiting for."
