Chapter 125: Nest
From what Qin Wu heard, the convoy encountered danger in the refinery.
Unfortunately, she never learned what kind of danger it was.
Considering that, she didn't dare to be careless.
Also, she and Mo Chenxuan had noticed several people lurking around them.
Although those people were just watching and not doing anything, the situation could change at any time.
"Wu'er and I will take the scouting task. Everyone else will stay back to prepare and cover our rear." Mo Chenxuan said with a meaningful expression.
Seeing it, Xu Fei and the others understood.
They were not clueless and naturally knew that other teams were watching them.
"Leave the rear to us." Xu Fei assured and Mo Chenxuan nodded.
After breakfast the following morning, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu drove the Inkas towards the refinery.
At the same time, other teams, including team Overlord, team Dawn, and team Empire, separated from the convoy and headed to the refinery.
'It's going to be lively.' Qin Wu thought and sighed.
"What are you thinking?" Mo Chenxuan asked.
"Do you think the scouting task will be peaceful?"
Mo Chenxuan raised his right eyebrow when he heard the question.
A moment later, he chuckled and shook his head.
"Probably not." He said.
"I think so too." Qin Wu said and also laughed.
"Chenxuan, do you know why the refinery mission went sideways in our previous life?"
"No." Mo Chenxuan said, his eyes narrowed with a thoughtful expression.
Like Qin Wu, all he knew was that the teams encountered danger and were almost annihilated.
"Are you worried?" He asked.
"Not really but if the situation becomes uncontrollable, we may be forced to reveal our trump cards."
"Let's hope it won't come to that. We…" Mo Chenxuan started but suddenly stopped.
Simultaneously, his eyes widened and his hands clenched around the steering wheel.
"What's the matter?" Qin Wu questioned with a concerned expression.
"It's a small nest."
"A nest?!" Qin Wu exclaimed and subconsciously sat up.
Ordinarily, zombies walked around, searching for food or following the orders of a higher-level zombie.
However, it was also possible for zombies to gather and live together in one place.
This place was called a nest.
A small nest had fewer than twenty thousand zombies, a mid-size had less than one hundred thousand, a large had less than one million, and a super-large had more than one million.
Small nests were relatively common.
However, in their previous life, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu didn't encounter a nest until after the first winter.
"The nest explains why the convoy was almost annihilated." Qin Wu sighed and asked.
"How many zombies?'
"A little more than fifteen thousand."
"Fifteen thousand…" Qin Wu muttered, her brows creased in a frown.
When they left the base, the convoy had give or take four thousand people.
However, after numerous trials, four thousand had turned to less than three thousand.
Thinking of this, Qin Wu couldn't help but worry.
"How many level three?" She asked.
"Twenty-eight level three and more than one thousand level two. The rest are level one."
"What a disaster!" Qin Wu said and Mo Chenxuan nodded in agreement.
Even he and Qin Wu couldn't afford to be careless in this situation.
Fortunately, this particular cloud had a silver lining.
From previous life experience, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu knew there was a black stone in each zombie nest.
These black stones were like a drug to zombies.
Between a human and a black stone, the zombies always chose the black stone.
As a result, survivors could safely move around within zombie perception as long as they didn't get too close to the black stone.
Most importantly, if a survivor moved the black stone, the zombies would follow and nest in the new position of the black stone.
"Chenxuan, where is the black stone?" Qin Wu asked and Mo Chenxuan sighed with a helpless expression.
"It's smack in the storage area."
Qin Wu didn't know what to say when she heard this.
If it was in the rear area, the convoy could safely move around without provoking the zombies.
Unfortunately, the storage area was their task target hence a confrontation was unavoidable.
"We can't fight them there." Mo Chenxuan said with a solemn expression.
Hearing this, Qin Wu raised an eyebrow but soon understood.
"Fuel is flammable." She said and quickly continued.
"We risk blowing up the refinery if we dare to fight them there."
"Exactly."
"…but Chenxuan, is there a way to move the stone without causing a riot?"
"Hide ourselves with my spiritual ability, wade into the sea of zombies, steal the stone, and move it to another place."
"I don't like this plan."
"Neither do I." Mo Chenxuan said.
First, black stones were extremely toxic.
After touching it, humans would immediately contract the zombie virus and turn into zombies.
Although Mo Chenxuan was not afraid of the zombie virus, he didn't want to expose himself to unnecessary risk.
Second, after taking the stone, it would be hidden within his spiritual ability barrier.
At that point, the zombies would regain their senses and immediately notice the nearby convoy.
When that happened, the outcome would be the same or worse than the previous life.
Considering this, Mo Chenxuan wasn't particularly confident in stealing and moving the stone to another place.
"Why did they have to nest there?" Qin Wu complained in a frustrated voice.
"Don't worry too much. In fact, there is another solution."
"What solution?"
"Chu Wan'er." Mo Chenxuan said and began explaining.
"Zombies tend to ignore her vines. If she uses vines, she can move the stone to a more desirable place."
"You are right. We can even prepare an ambush in the new location." Qin Wu said in an excited voice.
If possible, she didn't want to ignore the nest.
After all, the black stone was beneficial to zombie evolution.
If they ignored the nest at this time, the fifteen thousand zombies would turn into disaster-level existences in a matter of months.
"Mmh." Mo Chenxuan agreed but suddenly turned pale.
A moment later, he touched his chest and coughed, spewing several mouthfuls of blood all over the steering wheel, dashboard, and front window.
