Rebirth: Love in the Apocalypse

Chapter 123: Swarm 3

In another car, Leng Han and others looked at Chu Wan'er with a concerned expression.

"Wan'er, is it okay to do this?" Yang Qian asked.

Hearing this, Chu Wan'er sighed and shook her head.

"It can't be helped."

Although team Dawn was near the front of the convoy, some cars had stalled in front of them.

As a result, zombie dragonflies had surrounded Team Dawn's vehicles and were vigorously attacking. If nothing was done, one or more of the team vehicles would soon be unable to hold on.

Considering this, Chu Wan'er chose to use her ability to deal with the situation.

"Han, I need a gap." She said, and Leng Han nodded.

A moment later, he placed his hand on the car window, and a thin layer of ice appeared outside the vehicle, freezing the surrounding dragonflies.

Seeing this, Chu Wan'er nodded, opened a window and threw out more than one hundred seeds before closing the window.

When this was done, she opened her palms, and soon after, green mist flowed from her hands and onto the seeds outside the car.

Less than one minute later, the seeds germinated and rapidly turned into thick vines.

The vines twisted with the wind and even touched the dragonflies.

However, the dragonflies ignored them and didn't try to attack or eat them.

When she saw this, Chu Wan'er nodded with a satisfied expression, but soon closed her eyes.

A second later, the vines floated away and wrapped around several cars before throwing them into the right swamp.

This phenomenon happened all along the convoy, and before long, all the stalled vehicles were thrown into the swamp.

However, everyone was only momentarily relieved.

After all, the dragonflies were still attacking, and the swamp was still there.

If they stayed too long, more vehicles would stall and more insect swarms would appear.

Thinking of this, everyone felt like they were standing on needles, and the drivers put their feet to the pedal.

In this way, the convoy rushed out of the swamp area.

However, they left the swamp, but the dragonflies followed.

Still, this was preferable to facing them near the swamp.

At this time, Guan Sheng picked up a megaphone, and a loud voice echoed in the surroundings.

"We will stop at the next empty lot. Everyone should prepare to fight." He said.

In their car, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu frowned while looking at the swarm.

"Those vines…" Qin Wu started, and Mo Chenxuan nodded.

"It's Chu Wan'er's ability." He said.

Chu Wan'er was a wood element ability user.

However, her pendant space had mutated her ability, making her capable of not only growing plants but also absorbing their vitality and controlling them.

Most importantly, she found a bloodthirsty vine seed in the space.

As one of the ancient evil plants, the bloodthirsty vine was extremely powerful and spiritual.

Inferring from their previous life, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu guessed the saviour vines were bred and controlled by the bloodthirsty vine.

"Chenxuan, I have an idea.' Qin Wu suddenly said.

"What idea?"

"Explosives."

"It's a good idea." Mo Chenxuan nodded.

The most pressing matter was that the swarm was too dense.

As a result, no one dared to leave their cars to face the dragonflies.

However, it was absolutely necessary to deal with the creatures.

Otherwise, the swarm would attract other insects and zombies, causing more trouble for the convoy.

"We will first use an explosive to scatter the dragonflies. This will create a gap for us to exit the car. After that, we can use flamethrowers and abilities to eliminate the remaining dragonflies. What do you think?"

"It's a good method, but we need to coordinate with the army and other teams."

After that, Qin Wu picked up a walkie-talkie and contacted the next team.

In this way, the idea was passed from the rear team to Guan Sheng's car.

Soon after, a plan was devised and communicated back to Mo Chenxuan's car.

After reaching an appropriate place, Qin Wu turned to Mo Chenxuan, and when the man nodded, she opened a car window and threw three grenades.

Instantaneously, a loud bang was heard, and the swarm scattered.

Seeing this, heavily armed people opened their car doors, jumped onto the roof and began spraying fire with flamethrowers.

From a dark cloud of zombie dragonflies, the sky suddenly became a sea of fire.

At the same time, a foul smell permeated the surroundings, leaving the survivors nauseous.

"I want to throw up." Qin Wu grumbled.

Although she lived in the apocalypse for many years in her previous life, some things still made her nauseous and uncomfortable.

Smelling the foul smell of burnt rot, she subconsciously wrinkled her nose, willing the wind to blow away the terrible smell.

Because they didn't want to deal with zombie insects during the night, the convoy worked extremely hard to destroy the dragonflies before nightfall.

Fortunately, luck was on their side, and before evening, they managed to kill all the dragonflies.

However, the battlefield was not an ideal place to rest for the night, so the convoy needed to leave as soon as possible.

That said, no one wanted to give up their hard-earned crystal cores.

"You have half an hour to collect what you can." Guan Sheng instructed over the loudspeaker.

Hearing this, everyone got to work.

Half an hour later, the lot looked like it had experienced a wildfire which burned everything, leaving nothing but ashes.

After leaving the area, the convoy drove for two hours before stopping at another lot.

Fortunately, the night was peaceful, and everyone had enough rest before resuming the journey at dawn.

Over the next three days, the convoy encountered zombies, mutant beasts, and mutant plants.

However, the attacks were manageable, and none left them as embarrassed as the wolves' attack or the swamp attack.

On the evening of the eleventh day after leaving the base, the convoy finally arrived near the YS Petrochemicals Refinery.

Because it was late, the team didn't plan on entering the refinery.

Instead, they chose to camp outside and then head to the refinery at first light.
