Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse

Chapter 967: Unique

The road to the D City base became even more difficult, and near the outskirts of D City from A City, the three of them encountered a rather large group of zombies again. Fortunately, the zombie group was on the move; otherwise, Su Jin would have had to stop to feed the man-eating flower.

"Qiqi, can you tell which direction they're moving?"

After the zombie group passed by, the three emerged from a clearing, and Lu Hao asked, looking at the muddy footprints all over the ground.

"Yes, they haven't gone far; they're heading in that direction."

Mao Qiqi pointed in a direction, still able to see the tail end of the zombie horde.

"Do you want to go have a look?"

Su Jin asked.

Lu Hao nodded, "I want to see what is attracting them."

At least the zombie group wasn't attracted to the three of them. Could it be another high-level zombie?

Su Jin didn't object, because she was also curious. Moreover, if they found the zombies' lair, she could release some man-eating flowers to feast for a while.

So, the three of them pursued in the direction the zombies were moving. Even on a muddy road, the armored vehicle drove steadily.

After the snow melted, the hills around A City appeared even more desolate. The surrounding barren mountains were dark, either covered in scorched earth or with some unknown mutated plants growing...

However, the three had no mood to admire the scenery, as they were getting closer to the stopped zombie group.

A roar suddenly erupted, and Mao Qiqi covered her ears in discomfort.

"What's wrong, Qiqi?"

Su Jin asked worriedly, as both she and Lu Hao also heard the roar but were not affected.

"It's a mental element zombie; it's giving orders and is angry."

Mao Qiqi frowned, as she did not know what it was saying, but the signals she received suggested so.

"Qiqi, go into space first. I'll bring you out later."

Su Jin said, as Qiqi was a sensitive mental element ability user. The mental element zombie might be rather high-level, and she was worried it might harm Qiqi.

"Alright."

Mao Qiqi indeed felt her head pounding, so she decided to hide inside the space and wait for Su Jin and Lu Hao to ask her out later.

The two continued driving the armored vehicle on the rocky road. Lu Hao had already ascertained that the zombies seemed to be in the same situation they encountered in S City since Qiqi had said earlier that there were no humans ahead.

"Do you think it's easier to deal with a thousand weak zombies or one strong zombie?"

Su Jin jokingly asked.

Lu Hao thought for a moment and replied, "I'd rather choose the former because if that strong zombie gains intelligence, it would be quite troublesome."

"Let's scout first; maybe we'll discover more."

Su Jin suggested. Charging in now would only alert the zombie group and reveal nothing.

"Sure, Xiao Jin is getting smarter."

Lu Hao said with a smile while driving as he ruffled Su Jin's hair in the passenger seat.

"Of course, hanging out with you every day, what do you expect?"

Su Jin laughed, as she grew a man-eating flower.

This time, she only grew a smaller plant, a human-sized man-eating flower, which slowly moved along the rock wall after exiting the armored vehicle.

The two chatted in the car, waiting for the man-eating flower to return, which did so within half an hour, bringing back the footage it captured.

"It turns out, the zombies seemed to be eating each other, not just one or a few doing the eating."

Su Jin observed the shaky footage. It showed a not-so-secretive cave scene resembling hell on earth, but she decided it would be better to let her man-eating flower replenish some energy by letting the zombies eat themselves.

After planning, Su Jin tried calling Mao Qiqi, waiting in the space, back out while Lu Hao drove forward a bit.

Luckily, Qiqi no longer felt the pressure earlier. Until the zombies in the cave realized there were humans and started moving uneasily toward them, Su Jin quickly began growing man-eating flowers.

When the first rushing zombie frantically banged on the car door, Su Jin took the vehicle and the two into the Wood Spirit Space.

The man-eating flowers began devouring the zombies.

Although Su Jin could partially see the outside from within the space, she didn't notice the peculiar zombie standing by the distant cave, not rushing toward the tempting clearing but gazing at the few man-eating flowers.

Its throat moved on its rotten, peeling neck as it tilted its head at the man-eating flowers, uttering unpleasant syllables: "Hoho... Su... Jin."

What made it different was the presence of pupils if looked at closely. Although they were just faint gray pupils, its expressions and movements resembled a human's.

The man-eating flowers continued merrily feasting, while the zombie lowered its head after looking around. It seemed to still be making some sounds from its throat, but they were unclear.

A moment later, the area was empty, but from the silhouette moving further away, it was evident it had left...

When Su Jin and the others emerged from the space again, the outside zombies had mostly been eaten by the man-eating flowers.

"Strange, why weren't the zombies eating each other just now?"

Su Jin wondered, as she had watched from the space for a long time. Even after they disappeared, the zombies just lurked around, unlike the early scene captured by the man-eating flowers.

"Maybe they broke free from control."

Lu Hao could only speculate.

"Let's go. We've already wasted half a day."

Su Jin said. They originally planned to reach the D City base today, but now it seems they'll be a day late.

"Let's go~"

Mao Qiqi said happily, looking at the zombie remains. It was quite remarkable how the man-eating flowers dealt with zombies.

In the A City Industrial Park, Su Xiangzhe and the others had already left, albeit entering the space some distance from the park, before using the teleportation array to return to Su Jin and Lu Hao's room.

"How did it go? How many crystal cores did you earn this time?"

Lu Guanhai, babysitting at home, asked.

"A little over 5 million; not bad for such a small place."

Nie Qing, relaxing on the villa's sofa, poured a few cups of water for everyone, enjoying the feeling of doing business freely. Who would have thought they just returned from the distant A City base?

"Xiao Jin said earlier, they'll probably let you leave again in two days."

Lin Tianhui, holding Lu Wang, said, and also mentioned the zombie horde encounter on Su Jin's journey to the others.
