Rebirth in Journey to the West: Sun Wukong

Chapter 1228: The Power of the Poison Ball

Three days later, in a dark and gloomy swamp.

Sun Wukong and his companions had been traversing the continent for three days.

In these three days, they've crossed a vast grassland and then encountered this endless swamp.

The environment here is vastly different from the previous grassland. Thick clouds and fog spread through the sky above the swamp, completely obscuring the heavens.

It looks dark and dreary.

"Wukong, are you sure this is the right path? This place is truly nauseating!"

Shen Lang punched a monster covered in sticky pus, sending it flying, while the Purple Cloud Heart Flame cleansed the disgusting liquid.

He certainly did not want to be tainted by such repulsive liquid!

"It should be correct; this is the direction as sensed by Tian Lin."

Sun Wukong dealt with another monster charging at him with a single strike, his brows furrowed slightly.

He also disliked the monsters here, too dark, sticky all over, just looking disgusting.

But there was no choice; they could only proceed this way.

The ban on flying on this continent is immense, making it impossible to soar through the sky. Even jumping is heavily restricted.

Attempting to leap into the air to observe the terrain ahead is practically impossible; Sun Wukong briskly abandoned this idea after two attempts.

Moreover, there seems to be some kind of mist on this continent, making it difficult to maintain a fixed direction.

Sun Wukong and his companions can only rely on Tian Lin's perception.

This is also their greatest advantage; they can depend on Tian Lin's perception to head straight towards the central mountainous region of the continent.

Of course, there is a downside to advancing directly: like now, it's impossible to avoid this revolting terrain.

But there's no other way; walking other routes doesn't guarantee smooth sailing, and they might even encounter something more repulsive!

Sun Wukong and his companions can only comfort themselves with such thoughts.

Buzz~!

The slain swamp monster turned into black water, merging into the swamp, with a black semi-solid sphere floating on the water surface.

Unlike the monsters they encountered previously, these black spheres aren't energy essences that can enhance cultivation strength but rather toxins.

The creatures within this swamp are all highly poisonous, but Sun Wukong and his companions are resistant to poison; otherwise, this would be quite troublesome.

The Heavenly Saint Fire can absorb toxic energy, but it also consumes its own Primordial Force. Sun Wukong is therefore not afraid of the toxins, though, he won't actively absorb them.

Shen Lang's Purple Cloud Heart Flame and Hong Jun Daoist Ancestor's Creation Light can both repel the intrusion of toxins, so dealing with these toxic swamp monsters isn't difficult.

However, after fighting all half the day, they gained nothing beneficial, only ended up with a pile of poison balls.

Which irritated Shen Lang quite a bit.

"These poison balls, I don't know what use they have, alas!"

Shen Lang weighed the poison ball in his hand and sighed.

"We don't know their use now, but it might come in handy later."

Sun Wukong shook his head, "If you don't want them, give them all to me. I'll keep them all."

"Wukong, I'll let you hold onto my poison balls too. I reckon they would have a significant use later!"

Hong Jun Daoist Ancestor also handed all his poison balls to Sun Wukong. Sun Wukong didn't hesitate and stored them all away.

The three continued onward.

The swamp kept producing monsters from the wet mud, launching attacks on Sun Wukong and the others, but they were all repelled by the trio, with slow runners even meeting their fate at the trio's hands.

Each poison ball obtained was absorbed by Sun Wukong into his internal space; he even found that these poison balls began to merge within him!

While calling it merging might not be entirely precise, it was more accurate to say that the toxins within all the poison balls converged together, forming a stronger toxin.

Sun Wukong discovered that the combined toxin was gradually becoming powerful enough to affect him.

Which meant that, after merging, the Heavenly Saint Fire was no longer sufficient to completely refine and absorb it.

"At this rate, once the toxin continues to enhance, might it be effective against even the Saint Divine Realm or Primordial Divine Realm powerhouses?"

Sun Wukong knew that with his current cultivation level, combined with the special properties of the Heavenly Saint Fire and Great Saint Decree, his resistance to toxins could rival that of a Saint Divine Realm powerhouse.

Yet he still sensed a gradual losing control of the situation.

How terrifying would such a toxin be?

If it were refined into a magical treasure and used against enemies, even a Saint Divine Realm powerhouse might find it extremely difficult to deal with?

Thinking of this, Sun Wukong immediately acted, which was one of his merits.

However, the swamp wouldn't allow him to stop and refine artifacts, so after thinking it through, Sun Wukong came up with a good plan.

He summoned his external incarnation, and it entered his internal world to refine artifacts.

Sun Wukong's internal world was always evolving and being perfected, and its world level had already surpassed that of the Yuan Realm, approaching the level of the Han Hai Realm.

Currently, there were only some low-level flora and fauna in it.

In terms of life levels, it still couldn't compare to the Yuan Realm, not to mention the Han Hai Realm.

But for alchemy and artifact refining, there was no issue, and it had plenty of nature's spiritual energy!

Sun Wukong assigned his external incarnation the task of refining the merged poison balls into magical treasures capable of attacking, ideally usable multiple times.

Of course, if he could only make a one-time use treasure in the end, it's better than nothing, right?

Using toxins against enemies isn't a glorious act in Sun Wukong's view.

But often, it's not the process that matters, but the result.

Dealing with enemies, regardless of the means, just being effective is enough.

Thus, having another ace up his sleeve, Sun Wukong certainly had no reason to refuse.

Toxic monsters in the swamp continued to emerge, attacking Sun Wukong and his companions, trying to halt their progress.

But the trio was already set on reaching the mountainous area at the center of the continent, showing no mercy towards these toxic monsters.

Due to their disgusting appearance, Shen Lang and Hong Jun Daoist Ancestor would try their utmost to swiftly eliminate these toxic creatures.

All the obtained poison balls were unquestioningly absorbed by Sun Wukong, continuously providing them to his external incarnation for artifact refining.

At first, Hong Jun Daoist Ancestor didn't mind how Sun Wukong kept collecting poison balls, but later on, he gradually realized something was amiss.

Sun Wukong's poison balls vanished with a flick on his palm, but were not stored in any storage magical treasure; rather, it seemed as though Sun Wukong directly absorbed them into his body.
