Rebirth in 1980: The Farm Wife Makes a Comeback

Chapter 515: The Stingy System

As she drank, it seemed she was falling asleep again, but her little mouth kept moving, so Jian Zhiqing had no choice but to sit down. She teased him for a while, wanting him to finish his milk before we talked about anything else; otherwise, she feared he would wake up again, hungry.

Qin Xiangnuan was really too tired, and she dozed off in a daze. By the time she woke up, it was already early morning. Little San had already been carried out by someone. During the day, there were many people at home, so she didn't need to take care of things. Li Qiuhua, Granny Lu, and the nanny were all there. Fortunately, apart from Little San, the other three little ones were quite easy to look after. Otherwise, she might have to consider hiring another nanny.

Qin Xiangnuan could just stare at the three kids and zone out, not pining for good karma or wondering when they would grow up. But if they grew up, it meant she was getting old too.

But, how come she felt like she was already very old now?

She hurried into the room, grabbed a mirror, and looked at her face from all angles. It seemed there was no difference; she still looked quite young. Right, how could she always forget that she was not even 25 years old this year, still a young lady in the prime of her youth?

"System, do you think there's any medicine that can delay aging?" she asked as she lay on the table. She was talking to the system that she was so familiar with that it couldn't be any more familiar and that would have to call her 'mother' in the future.

"If I get old, won't it be weird for you to call me mom?"

She thought about one day when she was in her forties or fifties, and some little girl who could be her granddaughter called out 'mom' to her. Oh my God, it really felt like she had been struck by lightning.

"Haven't you been taking it all along?" the system chimed in with a sound, giving her an answer.

Taking it all along? Qin Xiangnuan narrowed her eyes, trying to remember what kind of medicine she had been taking. The medicine the system gave her, one pill a day during her pregnancy.

"That's the one. Keep taking it. It can make you age slower," the system gave her a straight answer this time without beating around the bush.

Qin Xiangnuan's eyes suddenly lit up, staring intently at that grid on the system interface that contained the medicine.

"Can I buy a few more bottles?"

She could get some for Granny Lu, for her brother, and for Jian Zhiqing. They could take it daily. Isn't it said to reverse aging? That would be something akin to an elixir of life. Although it might not be as exaggerated, it could at least keep them young for a few more years, perhaps even prolong their lives.

"Forget it."

The system could really hit her where it hurt, suddenly making her feel like she had ascended to heaven, only to be dropped into hell the next moment.

"Why?" Qin Xiangnuan was quite annoyed. "Such pettiness, considering they are your grandfather, grandmother, and uncles."

The system went silent for a long while before it slowly produced a string of characters, "The system is bound to you; you are the system's host, so only you can use what's inside. Others won't experience any effects, even if you give them a hundred bottles a day, it will still be the same."

And Qin Xiangnuan, perhaps, could only sigh in response.

On second thought, it does make sense.

Beauty indeed comes with a price. The system does not treat you well without reason; it has its own goals. Initially, it was to operate, but later, to reproduce itself. By the time the two-child policy opened up, it would be more than a decade later, and by then, she would be in her forties, considered an elderly pregnant woman. At that age, her physical functions would not be conducive to pregnancy. The reason why the system provided her with medicine was to ensure it could reproduce – it was only leveraging Qin Xiangnuan's life. Otherwise, the system would not be inexplicably kind to Qin Xiangmei; this tool can be both good and bad and is not about helping others without expecting something in return.

However, in this lifetime, the system has been very good to her, and no matter the reason, it would absolutely not harm her.

It's a shame, though, the medicine that gradually makes one older is not suitable for others.

She poured a glass of water and swallowed a pill. Turning around, she saw Little San looking at her with his bright big eyes, his little fists clenched tight, seemingly staring at something intently.

"What's the matter, being good now?" Qin Xiangnuan walked over, pinching his chubby little cheeks. He had put on some weight recently; his eyes were even bigger and darker. The little fellow indeed was growing very nicely – too exquisitely for Qin Xiangnuan's liking though. She actually hoped that Little San would grow less attractive.

What's the use of a boy looking so good?

"Just resemble your father, got it?" She picked up Little San, rocked him, and he, now a robust child, grabbed his mother's hair and giggled happily, not knowing what he was laughing at – he was indeed quite toothless.

Qin Xiangnuan pinched the little guy's cheeks once more. These days, she saw her other two boys less often, always holding him instead. He indeed had a way about him, seemingly the smartest among the three brothers.

On the triplets' hundred-day celebration, the grandparents, wanting to show off the triplets, organized a grand ceremony. Many people came, all there to see the rare sight of triplets. And that day, the triplets were quite well-behaved and savvy; they didn't cause any trouble, except for Little San, who was different from the others. While Daxuan and Xiao Xuan were curiously watching so many people, their eyes lively and scanning around, Little San was sound asleep, and no one dared wake him. If he did awake, he would cry nonstop.

Daxuan and Xiao Xuan were ordinary kids, while Little San was so beautiful it was breathtaking. Even with his eyes closed, his facial features were exceedingly delicate. People even thought he was a little girl, but it turned out, he was a little boy.

It was just that the little guy wasn't too considerate, resolutely not waking, with so many people watching him, he continued to sleep, even lightly snoring, which was quite comical.

The triplets were growing stronger by the day. Little San had a weaker constitution, but thankfully, after growing a bit, he didn't fall sick much. Although he developed slower compared to his two brothers, he eventually became a healthy young boy.

Now, Qin Xiangnuan's life revolved entirely around her three boys, and drawing some design sketches. Sometimes at night, Little San would be so fussy that she couldn't sleep at all. He would hum, roll around, causing Qin Xiangnuan to roll with him throughout the night.

The little guy was perhaps a bit too excited and didn't fall asleep until morning. Likewise, Little San's mother only fell asleep just before dawn. Little San was sleeping soundly, his two brothers were playing joyfully outside with great-grandma, and Qin Xiangnuan was so tired she could barely open her eyes. Occasionally, she would force her eyes open and would see Little San sleeping next to her, smelling sweetly, sometimes when he seemed about to wake, he would hum for a long while, and Qin Xiangnuan half-asleep, would pat his back unconsciously.
