Chapter 507: The Birth
Dongsheng now lived with his new master and spent his days learning to cook and checking on the shop's renovation progress. Running back and forth, he was busy all day, but felt fulfilled.
A month had passed, and Qin Xiangnuan's belly still showed no signs of labor. Sometimes, she even wondered if she had miscalculated her due date, but that seemed impossible. Even if she had made a mistake, Jian Zhiqing, who remembered more clearly than she did, kept track of her menstrual cycles and ovulation dates meticulously. Therefore, the baby was definitely full-term, and they were just waiting for the fruit to fall naturally off the vine.
But, who would have guessed that the little devils stubbornly refused to come out?
Granny Lu and Li Qiuhua, having gone through childbirth themselves, weren't worried. There were cases of babies born at full-term, and of course, those born prematurely. Some were born in the seventh month, and some didn't come even after ten months. So now, they advised Qin Xiangnuan to move around more instead of staying put, thinking that the baby would arrive in the next few days.
That night, Qin Xiangnuan was sleeping soundly when a sudden pain in her abdomen jolted her awake.
She clutched her belly, her brows furrowed together.
Feeling the labor pains coming from her belly.
If it was just a one-time pain, there was no worry, and it wasn't time yet. But if the pain came in waves, then it was likely time to give birth. Granny Lu said it would be anytime in these few days.
Her belly only hurt that one instance and seemed fine afterward. She laid down again, and just as she was about to fall asleep, the pain woke her again. This time, it wasn't just a simple pain but started sporadically and then came in waves.
"What's wrong?" Jian Zhiqing heard her faint moans and quickly turned on the bedside lamp, sitting up to find Qin Xiangnuan clutching her belly with a pained expression and cold sweat beading her forehead.
"Is it time?" Jian Zhiqing hurriedly grabbed his clothes and got dressed in a clumsy rush, as Qin Xiangnuan's state suggested she was close to labor.
"Maybe, I guess," Qin Xiangnuan bore the intermittent pain in her belly, allowing Jian Zhiqing to help her get dressed. Fortunately, they were well-prepared at home, with a car outside and a hospital not too far away. Jian Zhiqing's hands trembled, even struggling to button her clothes correctly.
"It's okay, Brother Jian. It might still be a while," Qin Xiangnuan grasped his hand and realized it was drenched with sweat. She had rarely seen Jian Zhiqing so flustered and helpless in all the years she'd known him.
"Let Granny make me a bowl of noodles, I'm hungry," Qin Xiangnuan rubbed her belly, feeling the pain but still bearable. She knew there was still some time before giving birth and needed to reserve some energy.
"Are you sure you're alright?" Jian Zhiqing placed his interlaced hands on Qin Xiangnuan's forehead. She had always been in good health, and he had never seen her looking so pale.
"Yeah, I'm okay," Qin Xiangnuan took a light breath and forced a smile at Jian Zhiqing, but in truth, she was indeed in real pain.
Jian Zhiqing pursed his lips, his expression betraying anxiety and nervousness. It was Qin Xiangnuan who was giving birth, yet he was the one more nervous and scared. He quickly called for the nanny, and in no time, the entire Siheyuan was in an uproar.
Indeed, when something happened to one member of the family, even the two dogs Conghua and Congtou were barking.
Granny Lu hurriedly went to the kitchen to cook noodles for Qin Xiangnuan, while Qin Xiangnuan seized the moment when no one was around to swallow a few pills. The system said these would make her delivery easier, and although she wasn't sure if it was true, she thought it best to take them. After all, she had to endure the pain this one time.
After swallowing the medicine, the pain seemed to have lessened, but the feeling of her stomach dropping had never been as intense as it was now, and she knew for certain that the child was ready to be born.
Not long after, Jian Zhiqing entered with a bowl in hand, while Granny Lu was packing things in the car. Jian Zhiqing also called Jian Ming and his wife, as well as Qin Xiangyang, telling them to go to the hospital first and handle the paperwork.
The noodles were cut finely, topped with some chopped green onions and a poached egg. Jian Zhiqing brought the bowl over for Qin Xiangnuan to eat. Originally, Qin Xiangnuan only planned to eat a little to conserve energy for later, but it turned out she was really hungry. She quickly finished the bowl of noodles, and even drank more than half of the soup.
After eating, they hastily headed to the hospital. At this point, Qin Xiangnuan was truly in pain, but she endured it silently. However, her pale complexion betrayed the extent of her suffering.
Upon arriving at the hospital, the head of the maternity department came out to see them. The Jians had some influence in Capital City, so naturally, the hospital gave them special attention. Instead of assigning another doctor, the department head took charge. After an examination, it was clear that the birth was imminent. The cervix was dilated and she could give birth at any moment. Moreover, her condition was excellent. Although she was carrying twins, the babies were not big and she could deliver them naturally.
"Don't worry, I'm fine," Qin Xiangnuan said through the pain in her abdomen, squeezing Jian Zhiqing's hand, which was sweaty and damp.
Jian Zhiqing placed his large palm on Qin Xiangnuan's forehead. "Hang in there."
"Okay," Qin Xiangnuan tightened her grip on his hand and pressed it against her face briefly. She was actually in excruciating pain, but still didn't want to make Jian Zhiqing worry, her eyes smiling like crescent moons.
The door to the operating room was closed, and the people outside were anxiously waiting. Jian Zhiqing leaned against the wall, his eyes never leaving the closed door.
Inside, Qin Xiangnuan felt the dropping pain in her abdomen once again.
"It's okay, you're fine," the director comforted Qin Xiangnuan. "You're a strong girl. Both babies are small and you're in good condition. I'll ask you to push hard in a moment, can you do that?"
"Okay," Qin Xiangnuan responded, firmly grasping the column beside her. She wasn't sure why, but she didn't feel nervous anymore, as she was about to meet the two little guys she had carried for more than ten months.
In a while, a wave of severe pain surged through her. It was very painful, but still within a bearable range.
In a daze, she heard the doctor telling her to push.
She clenched her teeth and felt something flowing out.
Then, the cry of a baby reached her ears.
She had given birth... She wanted to smile, but now she had no energy left.
For the pain started again...
Another push, the doctor urged, holding her hand for reassurance. Qin Xiangnuan was in pain, but she felt incredibly happy, for she heard her child's cry. She had children, children connected to her by blood, her very own children.
Outside, Jian Ming pressed his ear to the door, "I think I heard the baby's cry?"
