Rebirth in 1980: The Farm Wife Makes a Comeback

Chapter 501: Don't Let the Child Get Hurt

It just so happened that as they walked, they arrived at the entrance of the cafe.

"Let's go in and take a look."

Qin Xiangnuan hugged her stomach, wanting to rest, and thought it would be good to see how the business inside was doing?

The front of the store was all made of transparent glass, from which you could clearly see the interior, as well as the various posed mannequins in the display window, and the complete sets of clothes they wore, inevitably causing many passersby to stop for a longer look at the clothes inside the window.

Qin Xiangnuan really captured everyone's consumer psychology; these complete sets of clothes were the fastest-selling items in both stores, whether in men's or women's sections. Everyone's favorite were those matching sets, and the price for one set wouldn't be cheap, almost always thousands of dollars.

For those who wanted to look good but didn't know how to match clothes, or were simply too lazy, the cafe was truly their best choice.

Jian Zhiqing really liked a set of clothes in the store: a long black trench coat, a light-colored turtleneck sweater, black pants, and a hat, which all looked very British in style.

"You like that one?" Qin Xiangnuan noticed that Jian Zhiqing's gaze was continuously on that piece of clothing.

Fortunately, Jian Zhiqing liked it. He wasn't short of clothes, but this one had touched his heart. If it were anyone else, it would be an easy decision.

"Try it on," Qin Xiangnuan pulled Jian Zhiqing and went inside.

As the big boss herself had come, the staff naturally greeted her warmly. In their eyes, the big boss was synonymous with red notes of Grandpa Mao, genuinely beloved by all.

Qin Xiangnuan picked out a few pieces of clothing and had Jian Zhiqing try them on. Since he had the physique of a model, most of the sizes were also based on his build.

Jian Zhiqing took the clothes and went to try them on. As for Qin Xiangnuan, she sat down on the sofa in the shop, resting her legs. Carrying these two "balls" was indeed tiring; she was really looking forward to the day she could "unload" them.

She picked up a fashion magazine from the shelf and began flipping through it.

The door rang, and the professionally trained staff automatically welcomed the new arrival. Qin Xiangnuan, not paying much attention, continued hugging her "balls" and flipping through the magazine.

"Give me that set outside to try on," said a man's voice, which sounded quite young. But Qin Xiangnuan frowned slightly at the mention of the outside set; it wasn't Jian Zhiqing's favored set, was it? Actually, it didn't matter if it was sold, as she could just make another one.

It's just that she thought it was quite nice because heroes think alike, and they had both set their eyes on the same set.

The person was originally carrying clothes to try on, and he had just opened the fitting room door when Jian Zhiqing came out from inside, wearing a short real black coat and dark pants, making him look very neat and clean.

"What a coincidence, you're here to buy clothes too," Jian Zhiqing laughed, but the laugh lacked warmth.

"Yeah," the newcomer laughed, seemingly a bit embarrassed, perhaps also noticing the obvious displeasure on Jian Zhiqing's face. He really didn't know what he had done to offend him again?

Jian Zhiqing's gaze shifted downward, noticing that the man was holding the set of clothes he had his eye on.

"You like this set too? What a coincidence, so do I."

He smiled nonchalantly and walked over to Qin Xiangnuan.

"How is it? Good, right?" He really liked the outfit and, mainly, it was very comfortable to wear.

Qin Xiangnuan put down the magazine in her hands and stood up too. She adjusted Jian Zhiqing's clothes, stepped back a bit, then came closer again, feeling like something was missing.

She turned around, took a light-colored scarf from the hanger, tiptoed, and wrapped it around Jian Zhiqing's neck. Now it looked much more pleasing to the eye.

Jian Zhiqing turned around, staring at his reflection in the mirror. Hmm, not bad.

At this time, the man who had just gone into the fitting room also came out, wearing the suit Jian Zhiqing had picked out. Oh, an acquaintance, Song Wang.

What a coincidence. Seeing both husband and wife, Song Wang was unsure whether he should feel awkward, but he hesitated to speak, sensing that Jian Zhiqing's hostility towards him had intensified somewhat.

It is quite a coincidence, Qin Xiangnuan replied indifferently, then sat back down on the sofa and took another look at the clothes on Song Wang.

"This size is slightly too large for you; you could try a smaller one."

"Is that so?" Song Wang also sensed something was off with the coat; it turned out to be too large.

Qin Xiangnuan asked a store clerk to fetch a set one size smaller.

Once Song Wang changed into it, indeed, it fit much better this time.

Outside, Jian Zhiqing handed Song Wang a cigarette, which he accepted, and soon, the faint scent of tobacco surrounded them. Qin Xiangnuan couldn't make out what they were talking about, but she guessed by their expressions that it probably involved Hu Li.

Why is it that men always converse over tobacco, she wondered. Quite strange.

She couldn't understand why men liked smoking, just as men couldn't figure out why women were fond of makeup.

We're leaving, Jian Zhiqing walked in, smelling faintly of smoke. He didn't smoke often, but sometimes he would have one. However, he never smoked in front of Qin Xiangnuan. Her nose wasn't great, and she couldn't stand the smell of smoke, so he had always been considerate over the years.

"What did you talk to him about?" Qin Xiangnuan stood up and embraced Jian Zhijing's arm.

"Nothing much," Jian Zhiqing straightened her hair, "just warned her to be wary of Hu Li, not to harm Qin Xiangmei's child.

...

Qin Xiangnuan could almost feel Song Wang's emotions at the time - probably a mix of shame and resentment, wishing he could crawl into a hole and hide.

It was pretty much the case. Hu Li had bought herself a pile of things - clothes, food, and other items. She was sitting on the sofa, sorting through them one by one, her double chin shaking as it drooped, her face greasy - which reminded Qin Xiangmei uncomfortably of the pigs at home, seemingly quite similar.

Suddenly, bang, the front door was violently pushed open. It even gave Hu Li quite a scare.

"Song Wang, you're back," Hu Li greeted her son-in-law heartily as soon as she saw him. In her hands, she was appreciating a new pair of red underwear and seemed not to notice anything amiss when she set them aside; but a hint of disgust flashed through Song Wang's eyes.

"Mom, it's been some days since you left home, right?" Song Wang leaned against the doorframe and asked Hu Li in a flat tone.

Oh, Hu Li was somewhat confused by the question.
