Rebirth: I Will Kill A God

Chapter 1: Rebirth

Why was I murdered?

It was a question I had asked myself many times after my death.

I had done everything right during my time as an angel.

I fought against the unholy clans, making sure the people of Earth were safe from its demons.

I trained my body and abilities every single day, making sure that I would never end up in a battle that I could not win.

And I followed every order of Noden. My father and creator who oversaw everything that took place in the holy realm.

So when I was brought to the top of his tower, and murdered by the Demigods at his orders, I could not help but be overwhelmed with sadness.

I did not care that I was losing my life, only that I had been betrayed by my own family.

It was the worst pain that I had ever felt. More painful than any wound that I had earned in battle, and cut deeper than even even my most tragic heartbreak.

And now that it was all over, that sadness was replaced by rage.

A rage so deep that it felt as though it tainted my very soul. An uncontainable anger.

If only.. if only I was given another chance.

Things would not be the same!

The words seemed to trigger something. Or at least that's what it felt like, as I drifted through an eternal darkness.

An unseen force took hold of me and pulled me, guiding me through the afterlife to a location that I could not see.

The force was powerful. More powerful than life itself.

I did not know it yet, but when I woke up, I would come to face a reality that even I would struggle to believe.

---

"Attention, Halo's!" A voice called from across the white field.

Huh?

"As you all know, and have worked so hard towards, today is the day of your Holy Trials."

What on earth is going on?

"The initiation process that will take you from mere Halo's to full-fledged Angels!"

The person that spoke was a large man, dressed in white robes that matched his long flowing locks. A greatsword was strapped to his back, a large slab of white metal.

And I recognise both the man and the weapon.

Demigod Zoryndrel. The one in charge of training the Halo's until they were ready to become true warriors of heaven.

I looked down at myself. I wore long pants and was shirtless with a small dagger sheathed to my waist.

This clothing confirms it... This is me when I was ten years old. Before I became an Angel.

Zoryndrel continued announcing the rules of the trial, but I did not need to listen. I had heard it all before.

Instead, I focused on my thoughts, trying my best to recollect myself.

The last thing I remember was being murdered, and my death was ordered by God Nedon.

I glared at Zoryndrel as he looked over all hundred of us, and something dark began to brew inside of me.

And he was there. Zoryndrel had aided in my killing.

I remembered how he struck at me with his Godshard, forcing me to use my strongest defensive ability to stop the strike from killing me.

But it didn't matter. There were ten of them.

Defending one strike wasn't enough to save my life.

"Does there seem to be something wrong, Zadkiel?"

Zoryndrel's eyes were fixed on me.

I hadn't realised, but my face was twisted in anger. He must have noticed me as I was being overwhelmed by my thoughts.

"No, Father Zoryndrel. Please, continue." I forced myself to say.

My voice was juvenile and high-pitched, something I hadn't heard in fifteen years.

His eyes lingered on me for a few moments, before he continued explaining the rules.

Is this reality, or am I dreaming? Have I really been reborn into my ten-year-old body with the mind of my twenty-five-year-old self?

So many thoughts and possibilities ran through my head, but one was much stronger than the others.

My death. I can prevent it...

No. Preventing it is not enough.

Before I died, I was one of the strongest, and most knowledgeable Angels in the arts of combat.

I knew many secrets and exploits, that if any young child knew, he could rival even the strongest demigod.

No.. if the child pushed himself, is it possible that he could rival Noden himself?

I turned my head and saw Noden's tower, its height stretching into the white clouds of the holy realm.

The child that I was thinking of was myself.

An opportunity had been presented to me by something even stronger than the gods.

Perhaps Fate.

I can avenge myself...

"Remember, Halo, you only have an hour to return to the fields with the corpse of a demon. You are all more than capable of slaying one, especially those that reside in Limbo.

"Use your blessed dagger, and remember to stay calm at all times. The moment you allow your nerves to take over, you put your life at great risk."

I remembered this speech, the rules of the trial, and its outcome.

I did not need to worry about the things that Zoryndrel spoke of. Instead, I thought of ways to exploit the trial and come out even stronger than I had in my previous life.

"Now then." The demigod spoke, voice reaching through the entire fields.

"Let the Holy Trials Begin!"
