Chapter 1: Chapter 1 - shattered dreams and portals
The scent of betrayal wafted through the air, like the sweet perfume that slipped from Sarah's fingers as she stood frozen in the doorway. Her husband, Victor, lay entwined with his mistress, Angelina, their bodies a tangled web of deceit. The room was dimly lit, the only sound the soft hum of the air conditioner and the quiet gasps of Victor's lover.
Sarah's world shattered into a million pieces as she took in the scene before her. Her mind reeled with thoughts of Victor's infidelity, the memories of their three-year marriage now tainted by the bitter taste of betrayal. She felt like she'd been punched in the gut, her breath knocked out of her.
With shaking hands, Sarah grasped the door handle, her eyes fixed on the couple before her. She didn't dare look at Victor, fearing what she might see. Instead, she turned and fled, the sound of Victor's desperate calls echoing through the hallway. "Sarah, wait! Please do not go!"
But Sarah didn't look back. She stumbled through the hallway, her eyes blinded by tears. She reached the front door and flung it open, the bright sunlight a stark contrast to the darkness she'd just witnessed.
With a shaking hand, Sarah grasped the steering wheel of her car, her mind reeling with thoughts of Victor's infidelity. She started the engine and pulled out of the driveway, the wheels screeching as she sped away from the scene of her shattered dreams.
She arrived at Cleo's house, her friend's concerned expression a welcome respite from the chaos. Cleo's eyes widened in outrage as Sarah recounted the events of the past hour. "I'll never go back to him," Sarah vowed, her voice trembling with determination.
But Victor had other plans. He arrived at Cleo's doorstep, his eyes blazing with a mix of desperation and possessiveness. Cleo stood firm, denying any knowledge of Sarah's whereabouts, but Victor's gaze pierced through the facade.
"I know she's here, Cleo," Victor growled, his voice low and menacing. "Tell me where she is."
Cleo's expression remained calm, but her eyes flashed with anger. "I don't know what you're talking about, Victor."
But Victor wasn't fooled. He spotted Sarah slipping out the back door and gave chase, pushing Cleo aside with a growl. "Sarah, please don't leave me," he begged, his voice cracking with emotion. "I'll change, I swear it."
Sarah's laughter was bitter. "You'll never change. I want a divorce."
Cleo joined the fray, her voice firm. "Leave her alone, Victor. She deserves better than a cheating husband."
But before the confrontation could escalate further, a new player entered the scene. Angelina emerged from the shadows, a gun glinting in her hand, her eyes blazing with fury.
"You think you can still love her?" Angelina spat, her voice venomous. "You're mine, Victor. And if I can't have you, no one will."
As Angelina raised the gun, Sarah darted behind a nearby tree. But instead of the expected bullet, a blinding light enveloped them, and the world around them dissolved into chaos.
They all felt a strange sensation wash over them, like the air itself was vibrating with an otherworldly energy. The tree behind her seemed to shimmer and dissolve, revealing a swirling portal that pulsed with an eerie, blue-green light.
The portal's voice was like a mischievous whisper in their ears. "Welcome, travelers, to the threshold of your greatest adventure. You will reach heights beyond your wildest dreams, and confront fears that will test your very souls."
As the four people stumbled forward, the portal's energy enveloped them, like a vortex pulling them apart and putting them back together again. The world around them dissolved into chaos, a kaleidoscope of colors and sounds that defied all logic.
"You will remember nothing of the past," the portal's voice whispered, its tone dripping with malice. "Only the future will be yours to claim."
As they tumbled through the portal, Sarah felt her memories slipping away, like sand between her fingers. She tried to grasp them, to hold on to the life she once knew, but it was too late. The portal's energy had already erased her past, leaving her with a blank slate.
When Sarah opened her eyes, she was met with an unfamiliar ceiling, adorned with intricate frescoes of flowers and birds. A young maid, dressed in a simple but elegant gown, stood beside her, a gentle smile on her face.
"My lady, it's time to rise," the maid said, her voice soft and melodious. "The flower viewing ceremony is today, and you must be present. Your father, the prime minister, has instructed me to ensure you're dressed and ready on time."
Sarah's mind was foggy, but as she sat up, she felt familiar with her surroundings, but she felt something was wrong. She couldn't really place a finger on it. She looked down at her hands, and they seemed...different. Her nails were long, her skin smooth.
The maid helped Sarah out of bed and led her to a dressing room, where a beautiful ball gown lay waiting. The gown was a deep blue, with intricate lace and embroidery that sparkled in the morning light.
Sarah's eyes widened as she stared at her reflection in the mirror. She wondered why she felt odd. Her hair was styled in an elaborate updo, adorned with pearls and diamonds. Her skin was smooth and pale, with a subtle sheen that suggested a life of luxury.
The maid helped Sarah into the gown. Sarah said, " you will not believe it Constance. I had the most unusual dream."
