"You can't have two protagonists in this story, so go back the way you came!" Naruto shouted, pointing at Naruto Alter with his finger.
Naruto Alter just rolled his eyes.
"Besides, you have your wife and daughter worried. Go home!"
"That's all taken care of," Naruto Alter replied calmly. "It was Reika and Sarada who told me about you… Because of that, I got curious and came to see you."
Naruto Alter narrowed his eyes and asked:
"Do you also have the system?"
The atmosphere tightened. Naruto squinted.
He realized that, even if they shared the same face, the same voice, and almost the same life… he couldn't trust him.
No one knew him better than himself, and that made him more dangerous than any enemy.
What if Naruto Alter had come to replace him? Something like: "Only one can keep the system, and that's going to be me…"
The fact that the first thing he asked about was related to the system didn't sit well with him.
Naruto shook his head. He was overthinking it. He had watched too many movies.
Naruto Alter looked at him amused and laughed when he saw him get on guard.
"Don't get paranoid. I ask because so far I've never met another Naruto with a system. All my other versions only got some cheap trick after reincarnating."
Naruto blinked, confused.
"You didn't find any Naruto… you know… original? Besides, no one else has a system besides us?"
"Of course," Naruto Alter smiled. "Most are the originals. But there are also other versions of ourselves. None besides us have ever had the system before."
That made Naruto imagine some kind of Citadel, Rick and Morty style, full of Narutos from infinite universes.
Almost as if Naruto Alter had read his mind, or maybe because he had imagined the same thing once, he said with absolute certainty… "No. There's nothing like that."
Naruto clicked his tongue in annoyance, seeing all his dreams of meeting a city full of Narutos vanish.
Naruto Alter watched him with a half-smile.
"How long have you been Naruto Uzumaki? A year? A year and a half?"
Naruto frowned.
"And why the hell do you want to know that? You really want to replace me, just like I thought!"
"I don't want to replace you," Naruto Alter said seriously, lowering his tone. "Almost two years ago, I decided to abandon the system and focus on my family. I left all that behind…"
Naruto looked at him without blinking, trying to detect any hint of deceit in his voice.
He couldn't believe what he was hearing.
Abandon the system…? He had never even considered that! To him, that idea wasn't just absurd, it was downright unthinkable.
Only a fool would do something like that.
Why give up a tool that had been fundamental to becoming as strong as he was now?
"Sooner or later you'll understand," Naruto Alter said, closing off any chance of argument. "Being strong isn't everything. There are more important things… and you'll find out for yourself. I only came to give you this."
Alter slipped his hand inside his clothing and pulled out a rolled-up scroll.
"This is for you."
Naruto looked at it like it was a snake about to bite him. "It's not going to explode… right?"
Alter just smiled, neither confirming nor denying, enjoying leaving him in suspense.
Sighing, Naruto decided to take the risk. He took the scroll and unrolled it carefully…
His eyes widened.
It was a Space-Time Ninjutsu technique, but unlike anything he had seen before.
The technique worked on the same principle as the Flying Thunder God, from the Second Hokage… but although it shared the same essence, its use was completely different.
"Is this…?" Naruto looked up at Alter after a quick glance, a mix of surprise and distrust.
With a single look, he knew what kind of technique it was.
Alter nodded slowly. "I'm eager to see how your life unfolds compared to mine. I'm giving it to you because, sooner or later, you would have created it yourself… probably."
In his hands was the ultimate Space-Time Ninjutsu, capable of surpassing even Amenominaka and Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's Yomotsu Hirasaka.
"Well, I won't waste more of your time," Naruto Alter said, turning to leave. "I have to give my kids a few corrections… and when I say a few… I mean many."
Naruto watched him walk away toward the portal he had appeared from, raising an eyebrow.
"Not to be ungrateful, but you're a terrible father!" he shouted. "Do a better job with Sarada!"
Alter stopped, looked over his shoulder with a crooked smile, and replied: "Would you believe me if I told you she's the best one I've got?"
Naruto looked at him incredulously as he resumed his path. Before crossing the portal, Alter raised a hand in farewell… and disappeared.
When the portal closed, Naruto lowered his gaze to the scroll. He activated his Sharingan and, in seconds, memorized every line and detail.
With the technique now locked in his mind, he tossed the scroll into the air. His eyes shifted, taking the Mangekyō Sharingan form, and immediately the black flames of Amaterasu engulfed it.
The scroll burned without a trace, reduced to ashes that scattered in the wind.
Although he knew almost no one would be capable of stealing it from him, Naruto wasn't willing to take risks.
The technique Naruto Alter had given him was called Tenretsumon, or as it was written on the scroll, The Gate That Tears the Heavens.
Naruto shook his head, smiling amused.
No doubt, Naruto Alter suffered from eighth-degree syndrome, or as he knew it, Chūnibyō.
Chūnibyō usually strikes in adolescence, when someone starts believing they are the protagonist of a story and convinces themselves they have hidden powers or a grand destiny. Giving such an exaggerated name to a technique was the clearest proof of that.
Probably Naruto Alter also believed he had an evil eye or something similar.
Oh wait, he actually does have one…
However… damn it, Naruto had to admit the name sounded incredible.
An uncomfortable doubt began to rise in his mind.
What if he also suffered from eighth-degree syndrome?
That… would explain a lot, actually.
As he resumed his path after the unexpected interruption of Naruto Alter, Naruto mentally reviewed everything he had memorized from the scroll.
The Tenretsumon, or The Gate That Tears the Heavens, was classified as an S-rank Space-Time Ninjutsu. If higher levels existed, Naruto thought, this technique would definitely be among them.
It was support-type, offensive, and strategic at the same time.
As he had supposed, and as Sarada had said, The Gate That Tears the Heavens was based on the principles of the Flying Thunder God, but to his surprise, it also incorporated elements from Amenominaka, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's Space-Time Ninjutsu, as well as from Yomotsu Hirasaka, considered the origin of all Space-Time Ninjutsu.
With just a glance, the user could analyze the flow of space around them and open a stable rift in the very fabric of the universe. Through these breaches, it was possible to instantly travel to any known place, no matter the distance, or even access other dimensions and alternate realities of the multiverse.
Unlike other similar techniques, Tenretsumon did not require hand seals or physical marks to activate. Its mastery depended exclusively on an exceptional affinity with Space-Time and Chakra control that only extraordinarily talented ninjas could achieve.
Although his Chakra control had improved since his fall, due to the notable increase in Chakra he had experienced, Naruto knew he was still far from mastering a technique as complex as Tenretsumon.
He thought that right now, it would be almost impossible for him to execute it precisely, especially to travel to other realities like Naruto Alter did.
The information he had memorized also detailed the advantages and disadvantages of Tenretsumon.
The technique allowed instantaneous travel to any location in the world or other dimensions. Its multiversal capacity gave access to alternate realities and parallel universes. Additionally, it had an offensive use, able to open rifts directly in front of an enemy for surprise attacks or to deflect incoming attacks. Of course, it also served as perfect defense, allowing evasion of any attack without margin for error.
However, it also had its drawbacks. The chakra cost of crossing unknown dimensions or alternative realities was immense. Excessive use could destabilize local space-time, causing dangerous distortions. And to reach an unknown place, the user had to visualize it with absolute clarity.
Naruto didn't take the drawbacks too seriously; to him, they were not a major obstacle.
The only thing that really caught his attention after reviewing the scroll was the possibility of traveling to other realities.
He had already decided his first destination would be that dimension created by Obito to trap Kurama using the Limited Tsukuyomi.
A reality where Hinata was much more confident and lightly dressed.
He couldn't — and wouldn't — miss that.
In that reality, the differences were surprising.
For example, Kiba was a cat lover, despite the Inuzuka Clan being known for having Ninken companions, intelligent dogs capable of using Chakra.
Tsunade had small breasts, a detail he wasn't too interested in…
Meanwhile, Shizune was the complete opposite, with a much more striking figure.
Where one lost, the other gained.
Minato never became the Fourth Hokage and, with him, Kushina never died.
Kakashi and Guy swapped their usual roles. Kakashi was passionate and enjoyed youth, while Guy always seemed exhausted.
Tonton suffered the most drastic change, receiving the typical Disney treatment and turning black.
Shikamaru was a complete idiot, unable to do simple math, while Chōji, thin, had remarkable intelligence.
Sasuke was a hardened stud, always seeking female company and never left the village.
Naruto sincerely hoped that version of Sasuke was not Reika…
Even if it was another Reika from another dimension, he couldn't bear to see something like that.
Shino, on the other hand, hated insects and was passionate about plants.
Ino showed constant insecurity and a much warmer personality.
Kizashi Haruno, Sakura's father, had taken the place of Fourth Hokage and sacrificed himself to save the village instead of Minato.
Even Rock Lee was very different, becoming a fashion lover who only cared about his appearance and style.
And that was just one of the infinite realities now at his reach.
He finally understood why Naruto Alter had disappeared for a while without warning his family.
It was for fun.
Even he felt the temptation to start training to master The Gate That Tears the Heavens and leave right then.
But he held back.
He had too many pending matters to get distracted now.
Luckily, he wouldn't have to face all that alone.
With a yellow flash, he disappeared.
