- ? I'm sorry, I didn't hear you, can you say that again?
Gobs sighed dejectedly, or so it seemed to me, and said muffledly:
- 'Gobs.'
- Ah! I hear you now, Mr Gobs! It's a pleasure to meet you! You don't mind if we talk, do you? Yes? Great, what do you think about--
I went off on him, going on and on about everything I could think of. I probably looked like the village idiot at the time, but I was doing my best to play the part of the mountain boy who didn't have enough to do. So, I went after 'Gobs.' By the way, he has a strange name, 'Gobs' - Goblin Killer, but it's not for me to judge - it is what it is.
Anyway, for a few minutes I poured an incessant stream of words at Gobs, occasionally getting short answers. He, by the way, was a little wordy, but, strangely enough, gave some good advice at some points, although all of them were related to goblins, but it was something. Gobs himself did not feel anything negative towards me, he just let some of my words pass his ears. But I didn't take offence, I just talked to him, asking him for information.
For example, I learnt how to kill a goblin so that it dies instantly. I also learnt a lot of things about goblins. But to understand it, I had to piece the information together, for Gobs spoke briefly and without much detail.
And then I got tired of talking about the same thing, and I started to repeat myself, so I returned to the lovely Astyphina, who was also, you could say, interrogating my sister, sometimes smiling puzzled. Looked at in this way, Arine and 'Gobs' kept silence equally well.
When I joined them: my little sister hid behind me from the priestess, which made Astyphina smile shyly, clutching her gilded staff in her hands. By the way, here's some information from the assessment on Gobs and Asti.

Yes, such a priestess. By the way, she looked very young, almost like a teenager, and in her magical vision she was completely white and shone with a characteristic white glow. She was kind and worried about my sister and me when she found out we had no supplies at all. She even offered us her stores of food, but I kindly declined, saying that we had nowhere to put such a kind gift from her, and was so taken with it that she turned scarlet with embarrassment and stared at her feet for a moment. A very kind girl, sociable and sweet. She's very embarrassed when complimented or shown signs of sincere attention,' I smiled under my helmet, watching Asti pout her lips childishly and look like a child. Shrugging, I shifted my gaze to Gobs, who was walking ahead of us. He was the only one who was wary now, but his gait was surprisingly quiet.

Wow, his physical stats are pretty good for a warrior, even more so than mine and that's a bit sad. He himself was... like a normal human, with a slightly darker colouring in his magical perception. But what was to be expected from a man who had learnt to fight and kill goblins since childhood? I remember him being taught by some... dwarf? I don't remember, but some dwarf for sure! His character is... difficult. From talking to him, I can't tell much about him, but he's definitely not a very outgoing person. His answers are always short in their content, and it's even harder to understand anything he says. But that was only a first impression; his emotions told a different story. All this time during the conversation, he was careful with us, but his gait was just as casual, and if I didn't have a chip like empathy, I wouldn't have realised that he suspected me of something!
Things... but as time went on, I fucked him up, you might say, with my chatter, and he apparently forgot about my suspicion and his feelings of wariness subsided a bit towards me. Heh.
So after some time we came out on the open beaten road and moved towards the border town. Incidentally, it was the canon city where 'Gobs' lived: it was half a day's journey away, which was a bit odd... To put it in ordinary terms, I was lucky enough to get to Elvina... almost within easy reach. I think she's holed up... at the farm? Well, that's good, but I'm starting to wonder if Astyphina's starting to look at me.
- Hmm, if it's no secret, what is he like, the Goblin Killer? - I asked in a whisper with curiosity.
The priestess smiled, looking at the back of the object of the question.
- He is a kind and brave adventurer. He saved me, and I am grateful for my rescue, though... sometimes he is too strict... - she looked at her clothes, which were stained with blood and smelled of goblins.
- That's how... - I nodded my head, looking thoughtfully at the back of 'Gobs'
- I'm sorry, but... can I ask you a question? - She looked at me modestly.
I nodded.
- М? Of course, anything for you, sweet Astyphina!
She was a little embarrassed, but not as embarrassed as she had been at the beginning of our meeting, but her ears were flushed and her gaze was a little downward.
Then she slapped her cheeks and muttered something under her nose.
- Isn't it hot for you to always wear closed armour? - She tilted her head slightly, not daring to meet my gaze and blazing with embarrassment at the emotion.
I grinned, slapping myself on the chest.
- It's nothing like that! I'm completely naked under my armour! And it's not like I'm hot...' I thought, looking down at my gauntlet. Indeed, no heat, no discomfort... although, if you count Ram and Rem, I can see why it doesn't rub anywhere, but even before that I didn't pay attention. However... have I gotten smaller? I mean, I'm just now noticing that my height has become a bit smaller than before....
Upon hearing such a thing, the priestess squeaked.
- G-g-go-go? - She was now puffing red and her eyes were hidden behind fringes of hair. And then an elbow strike flew into my side.
- Bro, you shouldn't say such embarrassing things! - Arine grumbled unhappily, pressing her soft dignity against my arm.
- Ahem, right, sorry,' I bowed slightly to the priestess, to which she quickly looked up and waved her head, her hands shaking vigorously in protest.
- N-no! N-nothing like that! E-that was me... asking... hehehehehe...' she giggled embarrassedly, averting her gaze.
Up ahead, 'Gobs' looked back at us over his shoulder, and then shook his head, turning away.
- By the way, sweet Astyphina, I'd like to hear more about the guild, you don't mind, do you?
The girl didn't mind, nodding positively.
The Adventurer's Guild was created to support brave men in finding quests, it is said that it was founded by people who met each other in a bar one day. Unlike other labour associations, the Adventurer's Guild was, for the most part, more of a recruitment agency than a union. In the continuous war between monsters and 'those with speech', adventurers were mostly mercenaries. No one would be able to accept the existence of these 'armed bandits' if they weren't managed by careful leadership.
The guild building itself was located right next to the city gates. The guild building boasted the huge inns and taverns usually found nearby, as well as a business office, all trying to be one building. The place was very crowded. There wasn't a day when the guild was empty. Lots of newcomers flocked from all the villages to this border town; the girl was explaining so enthusiastically as if she was there herself right now, so I admired her. A very nice girl, it would be a pity to leave such a girl alone.....
In the end, I completely forgot about the time.
...
With this kind of conversation, the time passed very quickly and already close to noon we reached the first village without any complications.
- Hmm... village... - I looked thoughtfully at the wooden fence and the vast field with labouring peasants. The sun was shining very brightly, and they were working in sweat, which could not but arouse... respect? However, I quickly forgot about them as I glanced at the map and noted that Elvina was definitely somewhere in this village! All that remained was to find her without arousing suspicion.
- Ahem, excuse me, Astyphina, but... do you live here? - I asked a question to keep the conversation going, to which the girl shook her head negatively. - 'That's how...' I snickered slightly.
- Are you looking for someone, Sir Arien? - After a few seconds of thought, she made a conclusion for herself.
I hesitated, looking at the wooden houses far ahead. And with a sad sigh, I said:
- Even before getting lost in the forest, I met a red-haired girl and I think she may have stopped here! There was also a girl with silver hair with her. I'd like to make sure they're alright,' I said confused, slumping my shoulders a little for looks.
The priestess nodded understandingly.
- Oh! That's it. I'm sorry, Sir Arien, I don't know exactly...' she hesitated for a moment, and then her face lit up with a smile, "but if you ask at the adventurers" guild, they'll be able to help you! - she said seriously, clasping her hands to her chest.
A very nice gesture on her part, by the way.
- Oh, that's how it is. Okay, I'll do as you said! - I nodded my thanks to her. - I'm sorry we can't thank you enough for your help, but if you need help, we'll help you in any way we can! - I tilted my head close enough that I almost stamped into Asti's forehead, but was grabbed by my little sister's stomach just in time.
'Careful, little brother!'
'Oh, thank you, sis! You saved me!'
'That's okay, hee hee! Be careful next time!'
I patted her shoulder gratefully.
- Ah!' the priestess rubbed her cheek in embarrassment and raised her gaze, 'don't be, I am a servant of the Mother Earth goddess and must help those in need! - she said sincerely, clutching her staff with both hands.
- All the same, don't be shy! Although you can't tell from us, we are good warriors! - I said with a laugh, which made Astyphina think twice. And after a while we passed the village and began to meet the first bipeds that were chatting cheerfully with their mates, returning from adventures or vice versa. Both of them gave us strange looks when they noticed that the famous Goblin Killer was coming with us. The closer we got to the city, the better I saw and heard it, and after some more time, we finally reached the city gates.
Here the bipeds became even more numerous, I even noticed some ogres... they were funny by the way: tall - two metres, scaly, with a long tail and an elongated... face? I checked one of them out with an appraisal.

Funny... still glowing green. I wonder what kind of females they have. Because all the ones I've met have been male... and all priests.
Also... elves that with their ears... surpassed my Aquina and Vivi! Well, I mean... their ears were really, really long, really long, and one of them I saw her wiggle them up and down... something I'd never even noticed in my elven girls! Which was very strange...
- Hee-hee, I can tell you're surprised, Sir Arien! - Asti giggled merrily as I stopped, looking at a potbellied passing dwarf with the build of a cobblestone, who gave me a curious look.
- Ah-ha... this is the first time I've seen so many different peoples together... - even my little sister pressed herself against me, shielding herself from the overly curious stares. As did I... there were well, a lot of them: we were literally getting our backs drilled! It was... really so unnerving.
'Bro... they... they're... they're devouring me with their eyes! Those... those...' - Arine muttered irritably, pressing herself against my arm, which only made the stares get bigger.
- You haven't seen the inside of the guild yet, Sir Arien,' Asti made me happy and grabbed my hand, smiling embarrassedly as she led me through the crowd behind Gobs.
That's right. I'd already seen a lot of different people: bald, bearded, small, elegant, and... I could go on and on, and when we passed through the gate without encountering any of the local guards, there was even more noise.
Already beyond the gate, I was met by a city with clean streets and paved roads, along them stood tall, beautifully decorated buildings, between which stood isolated a huge building. The construction of this three-storey building was quite complex and some of the annexes rose above the roof of the main building. Above the central entrance hung a brightly coloured signboard with a clear inscription - Adventurer's Guild!
- So this is the Adventurer's Guild...' I whispered in a quiet voice of surprise.
Now I was completely lost - why would I understand the local inscriptions? That was the expression on my face, led by the priestess by the hand, so we quickly reached the entrance to the guild, behind Gobs...
And then I heard the deafening noise of adventurers. There were a lot of them... well, just a lot. Humans, elves, dwarves and ogres were all armed and dressed in their own way: swords, spears, bows, axes, heavy armour, medium, light... in short - a huge variety. The room itself was spacious, with sparse tables and chairs, and there was also a service counter. Behind it sat a girl with her arms crossed on her chest.
Hmm, one plus of all this: among them there are also very nice beauties... (Wow, that's the ass of an elf! - I looked at one elf girl. She put on tight clothes and that's it! And what hips and arse she has, you can't take your eyes off!) And there were a lot of beauties... with different sizes of breasts, ahem. I was distracted, anyway. The priestess clutching my gauntlet with a cheerful smile took us to a small queue....
- I'm sorry, Sir Arien, but I'll have to leave you to it! - She bowed with a traditional bow and with one last smile, disappeared into the crowd.
'Brother...' - Arine pressed against my arm.
'It's okay, it'll be over soon... I promise, but now we'll have to queue for a while,' I gave her confidence with my feelings, though I didn't have much of it myself right now. Everything was too unfamiliar and crowded, and also... when did I start to understand the local writing? Looking around, I noticed a cork board occupying a whole wall, near which some adventurers were standing and discussing something, but because of the noise, I couldn't make out anything.
'How... unfamiliar...'
