- Please! Please let me work for you!

- I'm telling you, no matter how much you fucking ask, it's useless. Grow up first, and then I'll think about it,' the man shook his head dismissively.

- I'm all grown up now! Please, take a good look and you'll see for yourself!

After another refusal, the girl sank back, and the man swore and left.

Speaking of her: a cute little cat with white ears and tail, in fancy and expensive clothes, with big, golden eyes, with snow-white hair falling down to her waist, in which a small hairpin in the form of a snowflake was woven. Her white 'aura', or magical power - call it what you will, was many times greater than all the village children put together! Now she was crumpling the edge of her clothes, looking at the back of the departing man, and at the same time her ears were pressed pitifully against her head. Her whole appearance was endearing, and the 'voice in her head' only confirmed her giftedness.

Hmmm... a very rare sight: such a cutie in a human village, and a different race at that. I don't remember seeing many fauns, and I didn't have a very good encounter with them. My head still hurts....

'Sempai! This child is gifted with a magical gift! Such luck to find such a nugget in a simple village! Rather, you should take her into your care, she needs a job right now!'

I stared at the girl doubtfully, rolled my eyes from what I heard in my head and caught the snow Fey's unintelligible words.

- Again... it didn't work out....

'Why the enthusiasm?' - I wondered. Of course, I liked her too, and gifted children are not just lying on the road, but still, to take her like a thing? Well.

'Don't you understand, Sempai! If you give her your help, that is, share my power with her, she will become a worthy pillar of faith and a strong ally in the future! In the long run, of course...'

'Ahem, is that what you mean? Alright, if the girl agrees, Alice will have her work cut out for her. She's my maid for a reason!'

Only... it was easy on the lips, but from the outside I felt... well, let's just say - awkward.

The closer I got, the more ridiculous words slipped into my head. I felt like a man in a mackintosh, black hat and black glasses, with candy in his hands and something very illegal in his mind. And my experience with children was minimal.

I even got a whiff of the past, and I'm not saying it was a good memory, but it was nostalgic.

Where'd she come from anyway? She looks neat and clean, and she's gifted. And walking around in a poor village looking for work...? It all seemed strange and raised more and more questions.

As I walked beside the girl, nothing occurred to me but to make a grimace of confusion, as if I were looking for something important. I ignored the 'if she doesn't pay attention to me' questions, but that was all I could manage.

- Mister? Are you looking for something? - The girl was enthusiastic and grabbed my hand, or rather pulled it a couple of times.

- Hmm? - I turned around and stopped, -you know... and you fit right in!

- Er, mister? - she was confused by my cheerful exclamation.

- Ahem, I'm sorry for scaring you, but I just need to get three... no, even four sets, or even five sets of women's clothes for my friends, and I'm not from around here and I don't know where there are shops or something like that!

For a couple of seconds the girl digested what was said, and then it struck her and she smiled.

- I see! Then, if you allow me, I can walk you to the local shop! It's not far at all! Hurry up and follow me!

She pulled me by the hand, and I followed her, noticing with the corner of my eye a perky fluffy ponytail with a white bow at the end of it.

- M-km, by the way, thanks for helping me. Without you, I wouldn't know what to do.

- That's okay mister, I'm happy to help someone in need! - she glowed with pride.

- Gee, you're pretty observant for your age.

- I sure am. You can't tell from me, but I have magic and I know what adventurers look like! You are an adventurer, aren't you? Besides, the adventurous girls came here yesterday, they must be your friends, right?

Gibbering incessantly, drawing logical conclusions. She was so right that I admired her deduction, and Mika - I happened to notice - was literally licking at the girl and rubbing her palms together very maniacally, muttering something to herself.

- And you're quite a clever little lady. Everything you said is true. But let me ask you, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of magic do you have?

The question seemed to make her embarrassed, but she quickly regained her composure and said proudly:

- Cold magic, mister! Speaking of which, here we are!

We stopped outside a simple wooden house.

- The shop is owned by a woman and she sells everything possible! I reckon she's got some clothes among her wares!

- Thank you for your help and here you are, you deserve it, - I took out some silver coins and handed them to her.

At the sight of such a large sum the girl's eyes glistened and her mouth was open in surprise.

Of course thirty silver would be a very large sum for such a simple job, but she was impressed by such a gift.

- Eh-that's... that's too much! I can't accept so much just for this! - She regained her composure again and shook her head.

- Meaning?

You could see her struggling with the desire for money and decency. She was an honest girl, after all.

- I can't! Not that much at once.

- Still, you've helped me out a lot.

- Mister? - she looked up at me, still hesitant.

- Then... you're a mage, right? Then how about joining my team? Keep the money as an advance. I suppose it's better than living in a village where you're treated with disdain? - I said as seriously as possible.

Even when I saw this girl, I could sense the attitude of the villagers towards her. Even in the other world, people treated other races with disdain and arrogance. It was only in the border town that it was relatively calm.

The girl, as if letting my words pass through her ears, glowed even brighter than she could, literally - a radiant and cold aura enveloped her, and then she grabbed my hand, pressing her chest against mine.

- W-you... you want to hire me! I agree, Mr... a-um, sorry for not introducing myself right away. Yukiona, but just Yuki to you, nice to meet you! - With the traditional bow, she... well bowed, flaming with unbridled enthusiasm.

- Likewise, Yukiona, can you call me Ari...? Ahem, anyway, Arien, now let's get back to shopping, and afterwards we'll discuss the details of your work!

- Um! Arien-san! I won't let you down!

Already at the shop, we were greeted by a full-figured woman of decent age. And as Yukiona said, there was a huge variety of goods inside, from different herbs, to different gizmos that I hadn't seen before. It was interesting to see what it was, and after evaluating it, I lost all interest in the mystical-looking things, as the purpose of my visit was clothes, not fakes. And thanks to Yukiona, I wasn't ashamed to buy a set of hiking clothes for girls, of which there were plenty. And if it wasn't for the ring... I don't know how I would have carried it all with me.

Besides, after such a trick, Yuki kept looking at me with a rapturous gaze, almost clapping. I think I really surprised the little girl.

- Amazing! Arien-san, you are full of surprises!
