Raising magical girls, and leave them with eternal regret?!

Chapter 86 - A magical girl with a faint wish

“I’ve lost my memory?”

Hearing the girl’s words, YouYu froze for a moment before shaking his head and retorting:

“No way! I clearly remember that when I came here, I was looking for a job! How could I have lost my memory out of nowhere?”

“If you disagree with the facts, then please explain!”

Before YouYu could finish, the girl interrupted him, pointing to his bound arms sternly.

“Explain to me how those cracks on your arm appeared.”

“If my judgment is correct, you should feel pain in that arm right now.”

“You can feel the pain, but you have no idea how it happened, how it formed. If you truly still have your memories, you should remember the appearance of those cracks and the power they contain. What does it signify?”

“……”

After a moment of silence, YouYu sighed, lowered his head, and said:

“To be honest, I really don’t know what’s going on. My situation might indeed be as you said—I may have lost my memory…”

“But…”

Lifting his head to meet her gaze, YouYu spoke with a serious expression:

“That shouldn’t be why you’re holding me captive here, right? If I wronged you before losing my memory, then tell me, and I’ll try to make amends!”

“But keeping me here without any context…”

“It’s not as simple as you think. This is beyond my control.”

The girl shook her head, organizing her thoughts before meeting his eyes and saying:

“Let me introduce myself first. My name is Liu Meng, just an ordinary employee at a cake shop. Your name is YouYu, isn’t it?”

“Yes, but how do you know my name?”

“I heard it from your friends. That’s what they called you.”

“…Really? But I don’t recall having friends here… Could I really have lost my memory?”

Seeing YouYu lower his head and mumble to himself, Liu Meng shook her head sadly and said:

“I found you on my way home from work today. You were lying in an alley, covered in blood. And… there was an ominous aura around you. Do you remember what happened?”

“No, I don’t.”

YouYu shook his head. However, as if sensing something, he looked down at his body, taking in the dried bloodstains left by the rain. After a moment, he looked up and asked Liu Meng:

“So, is this why you’ve restrained me? Does it have something to do with me lying in that alley?”

“Yes.”

Liu Meng nodded, pointing at the bloodstained parts of his clothing.

“You must find it strange. You can see and feel it—you were injured and bled. Yet, without any medical treatment, you feel no pain.”

“The reason is simple: you are no longer human.”

“…Not human?”

Hearing Liu Meng’s words, YouYu paused before saying:

“Please, explain in detail.”

“Hmm… Explaining everything now isn’t realistic, so I’ll keep it simple.”

Noticing that YouYu had calmed down enough to listen, Liu Meng let out a breath of relief. In a steady tone, she began to explain everything clearly.

Twenty minutes later.

Liu Meng had finished her explanation. She took a sip of water and fell silent, patiently waiting for YouYu, who was too “shocked” by the flood of information to respond.

“……”

“What she said aligns closely with what Bai Yu said.”

As he mulled over her words, YouYu thought to himself.

Just now, Liu Meng had explained the concepts of “Negative Beasts” and “Magical Girls.” Most of what she said was information he already knew, with only a few new details. Overall, it wasn’t particularly useful.

Logically speaking, a magical girl with a two-and-a-half-year… no, a two-year active period shouldn’t only know information that even Bai Yu is aware of, without understanding deeper layers of it.

Unless… for some reason, she’s not in a position to disclose it, or perhaps she simply doesn’t trust him yet.

In any case, overthinking here wouldn’t help. He’d have to “push” further if he wanted to learn more.

With this in mind, YouYu raised his head, frowning as he spoke:

“So, you’re saying I’m no longer human because I’ve become something like a Negative Beast?”

“That’s right. That’s why I had to restrain you.”

“But earlier, you didn’t mention anything about ‘humans being able to turn into Negative beasts’!”

“If what you’re saying is true and I’ve really become a Negative beast, then why do I still retain my consciousness?”

“…Because I’ve seen it before.”

Liu Meng’s expression faltered momentarily at his question but quickly recovered. Taking a deep breath, she said:

“All I can tell you is this—you’ve indeed become a Negative Beast. While you’ve shown no aggressive tendencies so far, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen in the future. So, I’ll need to keep observing you.”

“I know you have many questions, and I want to answer them. But first, I need to understand your interpersonal relationships and help manage the aftermath.”

“For now…”

Liu Meng crouched down, unshackling YouYu’s legs and untying his arms. Once he stood, she sighed and said:

“Let’s have a meal first.”

“Ask your questions after we’ve eaten.”

“And one more thing—keep your power suppressed. Don’t let it surface.”

“If something goes wrong, I won’t be able to save you.”

“Even though I haven’t acted in a long time, I still know how to handle Negative Beasts.”

“……”

“Alright.”

She hasn’t been active for a long time. A magical girl for two years…

She won’t be easy to deal with.

Watching Liu Meng walk out of the room, YouYu mused:

“It’s obvious she hasn’t fought in a while, but her power isn’t weak.”

“Despite having such a faint wish, she’s still this strong…”

“What kind of wish did she make back then?”

“And what happened to her after that?”

His instincts told him that Liu Meng’s past held many secrets waiting to unravel.
