Chapter 524: The Great Chief 42
Everyone watched the lightning rushing towards Shuangshuang, and all of them had expressions of shock and fear in their eyes. There was only one thought in their minds: Shuangshuang was done for! Being covered by so much lightning was a sure death sentence!
If it were the warriors like Mang Mountain and Ben, they might still survive such an attack by relying on the energy within their bodies. But Shuangshuang was just an ordinary person without the awakened power of a warrior, so it was impossible for her to survive such an attack.
Yet the unexpected happened. The vast amount of lightning rushing at Shuangshuang didn't directly attack her. Instead, it paused when it approached her, then got absorbed into her body!
The jaws of the shocked and pained spectators dropped to the ground, as they stared at the aggressive lightning slowing down abruptly in front of Shuangshuang, and getting absorbed into her abdomen like a whale gulping water!
Everyone was bewildered. What in the world was happening? They had never seen anything like this before! Directly absorbing lightning! And without getting electrocuted into a crisp! It was too bizarre!
However, Zhi and Yun, the two witches, were both excited watching Shuangshuang absorb the lightning, and said to the onlookers, "Don't disturb her. She's about to awaken as a warrior, directly absorbing the energy of heaven and earth into her body. This is a phenomenon that only occurs when a high-level warrior awakens!"
The crowd gasped at the mention of a high-level warrior. It was said that only those from the great tribes had the possibility of awakening as high-level warriors. Who would have thought that someone from the small Helie Tribe of just over thirty people was about to awaken as a high-level warrior, suggesting the rise of the Helie Tribe.
The people from the Lanshan Tribe didn't feel envious. Instead, they felt honored. The reason was simple: Lanshan and Helie Tribes, although different in name, were as close as one could be.
If the Helie Tribe became strong, they would support the Lanshan Tribe just as the Lanshan Tribe had supported them before. Thus, having a high-level warrior in the Helie Tribe was naturally good for the Lanshan Tribe.
Meanwhile, Ben, Mang Mountain, Tie, Jian, Shen and others, who were struck and covered in dust, having only survived by using their warrior powers, climbed out of the large pit created by the lightning and joined the spectators.
However, Shuangshuang, who was being watched with admiration, didn't feel well. She stood still while the relentless lightning drilled into her body, making her feel extremely uncomfortable.
The lightning she absorbed transformed into a strange power, carrying an overwhelmingly dominating momentum, rampaging through her body. Shuangshuang felt as though every inch of her flesh was being torn and mashed by this domineering power, causing relentless destruction.
Shuangshuang felt as if there wasn't a single part of her body that didn't hurt. The pain invaded her, bone-deep and unavoidable, and she had to endure it with sheer will!
Shuangshuang's body stood rigidly, unable even to move, completely powerless to resist as the lightning entered her body, transforming into this destructive force that repeatedly tore through her flesh, bones, and even every cell! She gritted her teeth, resisting the urge to cry out and show weakness.
Who knows how long the torment lasted. When Shuangshuang's consciousness had almost become hazy with pain, she finally absorbed all the vast lightning, and then the pain inside her escalated suddenly.
Tortured to her limit, Shuangshuang finally couldn't help but start letting out muffled groans of pain. Not wanting to scream out loud and lose her dignity in front of the crowd, she suppressed her voice, occasionally letting out a soft groan to convey her suffering was by no means easy.
After an indeterminate amount of time, Shuangshuang felt the wildly destructive power in her body finally becoming docile, gradually settling into her abdomen and slowly disappearing from there.
Shuangshuang didn't know whether this power was gone or stored within her body. Once all the power had subsided and she no longer felt intense pain, Shuangshuang reached her limit; her body swayed a couple of times before finally collapsing and losing consciousness entirely.
When Shuangshuang regained consciousness, the first thing she saw were her Ah Ma Grass and Father Tieh watching over her!
Shuangshuang, although she had gone through a painful ordeal with that power, her thoughts were still stuck in the fear that the lightning had swallowed her father. So the first thing she did upon opening her eyes was to grab Father Tieh's hand to make sure he was alive!
Feeling the warmth of his palm and seeing the healthy color of his face, Shuangshuang was finally able to put her mind at ease. Luckily, her father was still alive!
Just as Shuangshuang breathed a sigh of relief, she felt herself being picked up by Father Tieh. Along with her, Grass was also in his arms, both relying on his strong chest.
"Shuangshuang, Grass, I know you both were scared this time, but you must believe in me. I am really strong and will protect the both of you. It's not so easy for me to die." Listening to Father Tieh's comforting words and hearing his vibrant heartbeat, Shuangshuang's mood gradually calmed down.
Once her rationality returned, Shuangshuang noticed not only her parents but also her two uncles, Jian and Shen, were there, along with a young couple.
Seeing other people around, even though two of them were her uncles, Shuangshuang blushed. She struggled to climb out of her father's embrace, feeling embarrassed about being seen needing her father's comfort at her age!
Shuangshuang's Ah Ma Grass, on the other hand, remained unabashedly in Tieh's arms. In the Primitive World, people were passionate and unreserved in their emotions, naturally wanting to stay close to those dear to them, unfazed by others' presence.
They believe that being close to loved ones always and everywhere is nothing to hide or be ashamed of.
Just as Shuangshuang climbed out of her father's embrace, she heard the woman from the young couple looking at her with maternal affection and said to Grass, "Grass, is this my granddaughter Shuangshuang? Such a lovely child, let Grandma hold you."
Shuangshuang was bewildered. Grandma? In this world, "Ah Po" is a term for both maternal and paternal grandmothers, just as "Ah Yeh" refers to both grandfathers. This young woman was calling herself Grandma, so she must be her mother Grass's mother!
Looking at her mother's youthful appearance and her grandma's equally youthful visage, Shuangshuang suddenly remembered that people in this world had longer lifespans than those on Earth! It made perfect sense that her grandma and her mother would look more like sisters.
