Quick Transmigration: Saving The Crazy Villainess

Chapter 459: Side Story: Superstar System (2)

The stage dimmed for a moment before varying colors from different directions poured toward the group of aspiring female idols on the stage. Miley Xu was seated in the middle while her teammates surrounded her. The sexy and confident initial poses of the girls elicited screams from their fellow contestants seated behind the judges.

When the sound of piano began, five soft voices harmonized with it to create a melodious opening. However, the postures from before had long revealed the concept that they would showcase to everyone.

'A sexy song, huh.'

"It's here!"

"Miley! Miley! Miley!"

As everyone expected, the beat and tune of the song turned playful and sexy and the girls on stage started to dance as if they were trying to appear both seductive and charismatic.

Like what the rapper mentor internally monologued to himself, Selena was indeed the least qualified to sit there. Although she was watching intently, she found it difficult to grasp the subtle differences between Miley and the other girls. Had it not for her outstanding memory, Selena would have thought that they looked similar to each other and had no distinction among themselves because of their similar hair styling, makeup, and outfits.

Why was she invited there again?

Miley Xu, as the center, started the song with a rap that sounded stable and powerful. Her expressions, hand gestures, and dance moves were on point and appeared cool yet sensual. The majority of the trainees seemed impressed. But Selena did not get what was impressive with the performance.

Was it the energetic moves and fast lines?

The scriptwriter maintained a poker face and kept her eyes in front as the one at the center changed alongside the dance formation.

"They're good." Ruby's head was nodding periodically to the beat.

"Agree. PD must have done this on purpose."

The show had a group of writers and planners behind the scene and Selena could easily see through their intention of placing a very skilled group as an opening act which the panel of judges immediately praised not even a minute into the performance. What she did not like was being calculated and written as a comic relief slash tension-setter type of character in this show. Should she ruin the opening act by delivering a harsh commentary?

The disco-like song ended with a twist where the performers headed by Miley Xu posed as if they had just fired a bullet from a shotgun with their chins up and eyes arrogantly looking at the audience. Everyone clapped to cheer for the first group that just finished their stage.

"Whoa!" The rap mentor joined the applause with his mouth shaped like 'O'.

The emcee had to wait for the excited claps and screams to die down before he began to briefly interview the girls and turned to the judges slash mentors.

Selena kept a poker face and said, "Hardly in sync."

If there was one thing she was at least confident about, it was how she could remember most things, if not everything. One glance was all she needed and she could express it in writing or words with extreme vividness.

The other mentors talked about the vocal and dance techniques and when they were done, they, especially the rap mentor, waited for Selena's input. Just when they thought the writer would make a joke out of herself by speaking irresponsible stuff, the woman began to list down the wrong movements done by each member.

"Around a minute and 10 seconds into the performance, the lady behind Miley turned around late by a second and a half. Thirty seconds later, the same participant's right hand was raised five inches higher than the others. Same with the participant next to her. Before the ending, Miley Xu's voice noticeably fell flat compared to others in the last line of the chorus. Of course, since I don't major in music, I have zero idea if that is intended to stand out or not."

She even pointed out the exact time that it happened. "If we will go back to 46 seconds after the piano music began, the contestant in red held her mic wrongly and her pronunciations of several words were off. 'Shambles', 'mourning', 'sanctified'. The one standing on the left side of the current center. Yes you. I remember when you took the center part after the first chorus, your right arm waved the opposite way compared to the others."

It turned out the seemingly perfect performance of the first group of trainees was full of flaws. But was more ridiculous was that somebody on the panel of judges could spot these minor flaws.

"Thank you, Mentors. We will strive to improve as fast as we can." Miley Xu and the rest could only bow their heads and wait for their ratings with nervous breaths. Gone were the look of confidence on their faces.

Selena received the card handed out to her. She recognized the handwriting as that of the rap mentor.

"Now, Judge Selena, please announce the rating." The MC urged her.

She shrugged when the nervous contestants gave her a hopeful and tense look. The drumroll music played but she cared not timing with it as she opened her mouth. "Miley Xu, A. Hanna Dy and Ji Rayah, B. The rest C."

The congratulations she said right after sounded so half-hearted.

After that, no other sound could be heard aside from the awkward drum roll BGM. Everyone was silent. The trainees on the stage were also dumbfounded. The confused audience members were also silently looking around with some tilting their heads at the infamous writer.

It took nearly half a minute before somebody was able to react. It was the other lady judge seated two chairs away from Selena who spoke almost inaudibly. "...ruin. Wow. The opening act is ruin... I wonder how this will be edited."

Judge Ruby softly chuckled while giving the nonchalant writer a curious glance. "... Really, I can already imagine the PD's furious expression in my mind."
