However, Qi Ying says: “But didn’t the general’s former wives had accidents before the wedding ceremonies? Big sister is still well.”
Nobody knows the daughter better than the mother.
Hearing that from Qi Ying, Lady Qi has the jitters.
She pulls her daughter over hard and grips her hands tightly. “Qi Ying! I warn you! Don’t get involved in things you ought not to!”
Qi Ying gives her a glance.
Lady Qi’s tone softens: “I only have you. Given our family’s wealth, I can find you a good-tempered husband so that you can have a happy life, okay?”
Qi Ying lowers her eyes. “All right.”
Lady Qi feels relieved. She asks the servants to prepare refreshments then puts her outfit in order.
“Let’s go to them. We have to be there since it’s your big sister’s first visit after her wedding.”
In the main hall, Huo Jun sits on a chair with Ah Zhao next to him.
Lord Qi is supposed to sit on the host chair, however, he isn’t so sure anymore seeing Huo Jun expressionless in his trim military uniform and Ah Zhao with a slight smile whose mood he can’t tell.
He pauses then sits on their opposite.
“Zhao Zhao, are you used to the life in the General’s Manor?” Lord Qi works hard to reassert his position as a father.
Ah Zhao gives him a look, then turns to Lady Qi and Qi Ying who is standing aside and nods honestly. “The General’s Manor is good. Better than here.”
Lord Qi: “…” He doesn’t know how to answer.
Forcing a smile, he says: “Good, good.”
Standing on one side, Qi Ying holds her big sister in contempt who never knows what’s the right thing to say since she was little.
When Dong-shi was still alive, Lady Qi was only a concubine.
Dong-shi loved her daughter dearly, satisfying the little girl’s every need. Qi Zhao loved to read so Dong-shi spent a fortune hiring a famous teacher for her.
Of course, in Lady Qi’s opinion, it was Dong-shi who brought up First Young Lady an unworldly person.
Since she was little, Qi Ying has found her big sister the same as a timber who always stayed in her yard without playing or talking to her.
If Ah Zhao knows what Qi Ying thinks, she is going to tell her with her finger at her forehead that Qi Zhao wasn’t a girl who didn’t like to talk, she simply looked down on Qi Ying and Lady Qi.
Feeling the awkwardness, Qi Ying suddenly lets out a small laughter.
Before Lady Qi stops her, she already walks up.
Picking up a cup of tea, she walks to Huo Jun and Ah Zhao.
“Big sister, it’s your first visit home after your wedding. I’m so happy to see you and brother-in-law in perfect harmony. Please have this cup of tea from me.”
However, as she speaks of her sister, it is Huo Jun she looks at.
Lady Qi turns pale. “Ying-er! Back here!”
Seeing that Ah Zhao is looking at her, she forces a smile. “Your second sister is spoiled and knows no rules. First Young Lady, please don’t take offense.”
There isn’t a rule for a younger sister to offer her elder sister tea when the elder sister visits after her wedding, only a rule that a concubine should offer a lady tea.
Qi Ying doesn’t even look back. Her eyes are fixed on Ah Zhao now. “Sister, don’t you want my tea?”
She is sure that no matter how unwillingly, Qi Zhao must put up a gentle and graceful posture in front of General Huo since it has only been three days of marriage.
However, she is wrong.
Ah Zhao casts Qi Ying a lazy glance and doesn’t hide her dislike. “Well, I don’t want it. No.”
