Other stuff is alright. But the knots wishing for safety and a happy marriage are way more beautiful than those seen on the markets.
“I want to show them to the general when he is back.”
Lv Zhu gazes at Ah Zhao with smiles. She feels that the lady looks like a kid who can’t wait to share with someone a treasure she has just got.
Sure enough, when Huo Jun returns in the evening, Ah Zhao presents him with those stuff.
Huo Jun isn’t interested but he still nods and gives them a praise when he sees Ah Zhao’s bright eyes: “Nice indeed.”
Then he hangs it over their bedside.
At night, after both of them have washed, Huo Jun sits in front of the table, reading something. Ah Zhao is bored so she picks up a tale of the supernatural, reading as she leans on a couch.
Not knowing how long has passed, a shadow suddenly drops over her. Before she has the time to react, the book in her hands is taken away.
“Time for bed.”
Ah Zhao’s eyes widen. “I haven’t finished yet!”
Huo Jun refuses her hope to read a few more pages firmly. “Read it tomorrow. Now is time for bed.”
Ah Zhao snorts and doesn’t move.
Huo Jun simply carries her off the couch and puts her on bed without expression. Then, he moves next to her.
“Don’t want to sleep? Do you want to do something else then, My Lady?”
His expression calm, his tone restrained. Ah Zhao would have believed he really thinks as he acts if she hasn’t felt his burning hot body.
She blinks, and blinks again. “I, I’m sleepy now.”
Huo Jun’e eyes moves across her face, then he lets out an interesting laughter. “I’ll wait till the day you recover, My Lady.”
Then he backs off and does nothing as expected. He lies down as he pulls the quilt.
Ah Zhao follows him under the quilt. Before she finds herself a comfortable spot, a pair of strong arms comes from behind and pulls her over.
All right.
She grows used to sleeping in this way since her wedding night. It’s cozy to have a free heater.
She thinks. As his body heat covers her, she becomes sleeps and dozes off.
The next day, Ah Zhao meets a few more new people and becomes to understand the overall situation of the manor.
Besides Huo Jun, Lady Huo, and herself, there are Third Lady, Fourth Lady, and Sixth Lady, three concubines.
Third Lady is mother of Huo Wan Wan, the Fourth Miss.
Fourth Lady has a daughter, Huo Jiao Jiao, the Second Miss who married last year. Fourth Lady is said to be the sister of the late general’s subordinate, with good looks but an ordinary background she doesn’t draw herself much attention in this manor.
The Sixth Lady is mother of Huo Xian Xian, the Fifth Miss. The Sixth Lady is said to be a famous singer of her generation with a beautiful voice plus good looks, she was doted on by the late general for quite a long time when she was young.
However, afterwards, with her voice worsened, she lost favor. Since she wasn’t in a good shape and was ill most of the time, she kept a low-profile, shutting herself away from the world and brought up a daughter who was also timid and meek.
Ah Zhao doesn’t ask about other concubines. Since Lv Zhu doesn’t mention them to her, she figures that they might have died.
Lady Huo isn’t close with any of those women due to her personality. She doesn’t bear grudges against them either and lives in peace with them.
Ah Zhao knows what position she is in after hearing that.
However, right now, she has something else to worry about.
Tomorrow, as a newly-wed, she has to visit her parents.
