Chapter 13: Chapter 13: The Calm After the Storm - Invites are like a Storm

Marineford was a battlefield no more. The once-echoing sounds of steel clashing, cannon fire, and fierce battle cries had faded, leaving only a quiet stillness. The war was over, and though victory had been theirs, the cost was felt by all who remained. The losses and sacrifices were heavy, but amid the sorrow, the freedom that had been fought for tasted sweeter than ever.

---

The Whitebeard Pirates, having managed to retreat and regroup, found themselves on the outskirts of Marineford at a secluded island, free from prying eyes. Despite the bruises and wounds still fresh on many of the crewmembers, Whitebeard had decided there was no better time to honor those who'd risked their lives. They were free—at least for now—and that was reason enough to celebrate.

Noboru, invited personally by Whitebeard himself, stood at the edge of the gathering. His mind still lingered on the events of Marineford, the fierce battles, and the family he had helped protect. He wasn't one for banquets, but the familiar laughter and camaraderie of the pirates was somehow calming. Tables were laden with all kinds of food, barrels of ale stacked high, and members of the crew toasted to victory, survival, and to those who couldn't be there.

Ace and Luffy were there, their bond stronger than ever, and Luffy—despite the ordeal he'd gone through—had already returned to his usual animated self, laughing and devouring anything that crossed his path. Sabo stood nearby, grinning as he watched his brothers, pride and relief evident in his gaze. In the distance, Marco and the other commanders shared drinks, raising their glasses to Whitebeard, their loyal captain and father figure.

Whitebeard himself sat at the head of the table, his large frame towering over the gathering. He looked at his crew with warmth and pride, his laughter deep and hearty as he exchanged stories with those closest to him. His gaze, however, kept drifting to Noboru. He knew well that, just like himself, Noboru had deeper wounds beneath the surface, ones that food and laughter wouldn't heal.

Whitebeard lifted his glass, motioning for silence. The crew quickly quieted, and all eyes turned to the legendary pirate.

"To everyone who fought for what they believed in," Whitebeard's voice boomed across the clearing, a deep pride in his tone. "To Ace, to the brothers who stayed strong, and to Noboru, who fought beside us all as if he was one of us. Tonight, we honor the strength it takes to protect one's family."

The crew erupted into cheers, voices raised in admiration and respect. Noboru raised his glass in acknowledgment, the corners of his lips curving into a rare smile.

---

As the festivities carried on, Noboru found himself surrounded by Ace, Luffy, and Sabo, their familiar banter easing the tension still lingering in his chest.

Luffy, as straightforward as ever, grabbed Noboru by the shoulders, his eyes wide with excitement. "Noboru! You're strong! You should join the Straw Hat Pirates!" he declared, as if the decision was already made.

Ace laughed, shaking his head. "Luffy, you can't just make everyone join your crew!"

Sabo nodded with a grin. "Yeah, Luffy, maybe he has his own plans."

Noboru chuckled, slightly taken aback by Luffy's bold invitation. "Thanks, Luffy. But I'm not sure I'd fit in with a crew as… lively as yours."

"Of course you would!" Luffy protested, crossing his arms and pouting. "We fight strong guys all the time! You'd have fun!"

Noboru looked at him thoughtfully. Luffy's pure spirit, undeterred by the hardships he'd faced, reminded Noboru of his own motivations. The young captain's courage and conviction were undeniable, but Noboru knew that his path lay elsewhere. He'd spent years honing his power for a purpose—one far bigger than himself or even the adventure Luffy represented.

---

As the night grew later, Whitebeard gestured for Noboru to join him. They sat at the edge of the gathering, watching the others celebrate.

Whitebeard took a deep breath, his gaze thoughtful. "You fought well, Noboru. We owe you a great debt. I don't often ask this of anyone, but… I want to know where you plan to go from here. This war won't be the last. The seas are only getting more dangerous."

Noboru leaned back, the weight of Whitebeard's words heavy on him. He knew the war was only the beginning. The World Government, shaken by the events at Marineford, would strengthen its forces and continue its hunt for those it deemed threats.

"I have my own battles to face," Noboru admitted, meeting Whitebeard's gaze. "I've spent my life preparing to challenge the Government. They've taken too much from too many." His voice held an edge of determination. "I won't stop until I've torn down their hold over this world."

Whitebeard nodded, understanding in his eyes. "A noble path. But a dangerous one."

"I'm aware," Noboru replied. "But as long as there are people suffering under their rule, I can't just stand by."

Whitebeard chuckled, his eyes glinting with pride. "Then you'll always have a place among us. Even if you choose another path, remember that you've got family with the Whitebeard Pirates."

Noboru's chest swelled with gratitude. He hadn't anticipated finding such loyalty and acceptance here, yet Whitebeard's words were genuine, a warmth that softened the bitterness Noboru had held onto for so long.

---

Not long after, Sabo approached, his expression serious yet hopeful. "You're planning on fighting the World Government," he stated rather than asked, nodding with understanding.

Noboru glanced at him, raising an eyebrow. "You have a problem with that?"

"Not at all," Sabo replied with a grin. "In fact, I wanted to propose something." He crossed his arms, his gaze steady. "Join the Revolutionary Army. We're dedicated to the same goal, and with your strength… we could change the world."

The Revolutionary Army—the thought of joining their ranks had crossed Noboru's mind before. But he was used to working alone, relying only on his own strength and resolve. Still, the idea of working alongside others who shared his cause, especially with someone like Sabo leading the charge, was tempting.

"I appreciate the offer, Sabo," Noboru replied after a moment. "But for now, I think I need to walk this path alone."

Sabo looked at him for a long moment before nodding. "If you ever change your mind, the offer stands. The Revolutionary Army could use someone like you."

Noboru gave him a rare smile. "I'll keep it in mind."

---

Later in the night, Ace found his way to Noboru, his face earnest. "I know my little brother asked you to join him, and Sabo asked you to join the Revolutionaries, but… if you ever want a place among the Whitebeard Pirates, you're more than welcome."

The offer surprised Noboru, especially given the close bond Ace shared with Whitebeard's crew. Noboru had fought beside them, yes, but he hadn't expected to be extended such an invitation.

"I appreciate it, Ace," he replied, clasping Ace's hand in a firm grip. "But you and Whitebeard have your own battles. I have mine."

Ace nodded, respect shining in his eyes. "You're a good man, Noboru. Whatever you choose, I know you'll make a difference."

---

As the night wore on, Noboru found himself reflecting on the offers he'd been given. Each path offered a purpose, a family of sorts, but he knew that his own journey required independence. The fire in his soul—born from his past and the injustices he'd seen—wouldn't allow him to simply join another crew, even one as honorable as Whitebeard's or as free-spirited as the Straw Hats. Nor could he see himself under the banner of the Revolutionary Army, despite their shared ideals.

Instead, he'd carve his own path. He would be the force that shook the foundations of the World Government, fighting for a future where no child would have to experience what he had.

As dawn broke over the horizon, Noboru rose, the weight of his decision settled firmly on his shoulders. He'd seen the loyalty of Whitebeard's crew, the passion of Luffy and the Straw Hats, and the dedication of the Revolutionaries. Each had a role to play in the battles to come.

But Noboru knew his role was different.

Walking over to Whitebeard, who watched him with wise, knowing eyes, Noboru extended a hand. "Thank you… for everything."

Whitebeard clasped his hand with a powerful grip, a smile on his face. "Wherever you go, Noboru, remember that you're never alone."

With those parting words, Noboru turned away from the banquet, his path clear. He would walk alone, carrying the hopes and dreams of those he'd fought alongside, but driven by his own unshakable resolve. The battles ahead would be fierce, the enemies relentless. But he was ready.

The storm had passed, but Noboru knew another was on the horizon.
