Protagonist?Antagonist? I Reject Both

Chapter 362: 362

The barbed wire would be underground and erupted at night. It was a defense mechanism that had been planted but after being dismantled several times by monster rampage during the day, it was made in way to operate at night as there was seldom any night hun.he meant raid.

He knew that crossing them would incinerate him instantly. The thought of how the slime monsters would be fried crisp if they tried to cross it intrigued him alas it only works for the first batch.

Leon activated his darkness energy in him. He intoned, placing his right and left index fingers together and tracing invisible circles in the air.

He moved around, creating multiple circles with precise movements before bringing his hands together with a clap.

Pah!

Instantly, a huge glowing circle appeared before the border.

Troon!

The lines at a small section of the border began to siphon into these circles.

All the circles focused intently on absorbing energy from that specific point like a black hole. The circles started filling up with a deep, red hue.

Minutes passed, and a small opening began to form in front of Leon.

As the energy from that segment of the border was rapidly drained, the opening expanded further with each passing second.

Swoosh!

Leon dashed through the opening the moment it was large enough for him to fit through.

The circles outside, now fully charged with energy, could absorb no more.

Seconds after Leon passed through, the opening sealed shut behind him.

Leon shot past the heaps of barren land representing decrypting shards of eroded land masses.

Immediately, Leon found himself in what appeared to be a dense forest of tall trees. The familiar chill in the air heightened his sense of unease, but he had mentally prepared for this.

Giving a quick glance at the vast green forest that erupted out of nowhere, Leon turned his attention towards the small green bracelet on his wrist emitted a soft, glowing light.

QUECH!

He tapped the bracelet, and a holographic map materialized before him. It floated to eye level, pulsing gently.

Zing!

The map dissolved into light particles and streamed before Leon's eyes. A moment later, the map was vividly displayed in his mind.

He had received this map from Mac. It detailed the entire border region inhabited by mixed-breed monsters.

The area within the first border spanned over three thousand miles, so Leon knew it was impractical to cover it all within a month.

However, he planned to revisit the area until he discovered how the monsters appear here, their origin and why they only do night raids.

Mac had marked some sections of the map as danger spots, indicating areas where powerful mixed-breed monsters, possibly even stronger than anyone resided. Had he known Leon's intentions, he would have warned him that these creatures could sense his presence from a mile away.

Leon already knew which spots to avoid and had chosen the parts of the forest to explore. As he entered the border, he could sense the presence of numerous monsters ahead.

"This place might be ideal for farming experience points, but I'm unsure if the experience is enough for my troops to power up," Leon thought as he began moving forward.

He had two main objectives which was to investigate the weak pre-evolved crossing of the powerful border and to farm experience points. Given the abundance of mixed-breeds in this area, he anticipated encountering many. He just had to be cautious not to meet a mixed breed he couldn't handle.

Swoosh!

Leon used silent advancement combined with a dash, darting through the dense forest. His movements were swift, causing the wind to whistle occasionally.

His keen perception detected something up ahead, and he came to a sudden stop, his expression shifting to concentration.

He turned to his left, spotting a thirty-five-meter tall tree with red leaves and branches resembling those of an evergreen conifer.

Leon crouched slightly before leaping into the air.

BANG!

He ascended more than seven meters before grabbing a branch and pulling himself higher. Reaching halfway up the tree, he paused to survey his surroundings.

He then leaped from one branch to another with calculated precision.

After covering three hundred feet by leaping from tree to tree, Leon landed on a branch sixty-eight meters from a small cave. He crouched, eyes narrowing as he peered at the cave entrance.

SQUEECH!SQUEECH!

Enormous, mammoth-sized black worms worms wriggled back and forth. Their yellow spiraling scales contrasted with their blackish skin. Some emerged from the cave, others entered, and a few moved about the vicinity.

Leon counted over twenty worms. The cave appeared to be their home.

"Black worms... known to emit unbearable heat that can melt human skin when threatened," Leon noted, recognizing them as he had been given a brief about.

He wanted to investigate the cave for any suspicious activity but was concerned about their overwhelming numbers.

He knew his defenses could withstand one worm's unbearable heat, but what if faced with many? Black worms had fire resistance, so a rise in temperature wouldn't affect them but he wasn't.

Leon's advantage was speed. Although Black Worms were fast, his dash ability matched their speed.

However, it was noteworthy that these measly worms moved with an astonishing speed. After the contraction movement, they shoot at an extremely high speed

His speed with dash was around three hundred feet per second, slightly faster than the worms.

Leon's arms bulged, as he took his stance to shot up.

Swoosh!

Leon leaped down from the tree, extended his hands, and landed directly on one of the Black worms.

Slash! Krych!

His unexpected strike created a deep gash in the worm's body, pushing it to the brink of death. He slashed again, severing the worm in two.

Shhssshh!

Molten lava-like hot blackish blood oozed from the dead worm, scorching the ground with its intense heat. Black smoke swirled around Leon as the heat from the worm interacted with the air, adding an ominous effect.

Sqquueeee! Sqquueeee! Sqquueeee! Sqquueeee

The remaining Black worms emitted piercing shrieks before charging wildly toward Leon.
