Chapter 301 Fury of Young Master Huo (5)_1
This son was actually even more devoted than her daughter, for he was ten years her senior. Before his sister was born, after her husband had an affair, it was this son who had stayed by her side through those sorrowful and difficult times. She admittedly regarded her son as more important than her own life, yet what had she done? She knew full well how much her son adored Julia, how he treasured her like the apple of his eye—holding her gently for fear of her falling, cradling her in his mouth for fear of her melting. And yet, she had actually slapped Julia. Wasn't that tantamount to riding on her son's back and plucking his scales?
It is said that for animals with scales, having them plucked is excruciatingly painful. One could only imagine the heartache Glades Horne must have felt when Julia was hit.
A wave of shame surged through Mila Anderson. She turned and slowly sat back down on the sofa, no longer trying to protect her daughter.
Her son wasn't one to shield shortcomings. His intense anger meant his daughter must have lied.
Remembering the multiple times her daughter had sown discord, Mila Anderson's heart grew cold. She feared she had truly fallen for a divisive ploy this time.
"Grandma… save me…" Adele Horne didn't dare stand before Glades Horne. She was like a startled rabbit, burrowing into the old lady's embrace. Seeing her mother's demeanor, she knew her mother could not protect her.
She could only cling to the old lady as her last lifeline.
No one else dared to speak, intimidated by Glades Horne's wrath. Everyone cautiously watched how things would unfold. The servants outside wanted to know what was happening in the hall. However, the thought of Glades Horne's outburst resembling a typhoon made them too afraid to sneak a peek. They worried they might inadvertently be caught in its tailwind, which would be a truly harrowing ordeal.
"Adele Horne, I'm telling you again, get over here! Don't make me say it a third time!" Glades Horne roared once more, his gaze fixed firmly on Adele Horne. This troublesome sister—if he didn't thoroughly peel her skin off tonight, he wouldn't be Glades Horne.
The old lady pushed Adele Horne out of her embrace and sighed softly, "Adele, if you dared to lie, you must have the courage to endure your brother's wrath."
Adele Horne's face was ashen, her own swollen face covered in tears.
She knew she was wrong. Would that be enough? She shouldn't have listened to Orlando Evans and deliberately swollen her face to frame Julia Bluen. She promised it wouldn't happen again, would that be enough?
The old lady's words only further confirmed that she had long seen through her lies and her plot to frame Julia Bluen.
So, how could the old lady possibly protect her any longer?
She figured her big brother was about to strangle her.
Looking at her big brother, who seemed like Satan from the eighteenth level of Hell, Adele Horne trembled all over. Everyone knew her big brother was unpredictable, but they also knew that once he flew into a rage, many could perish. In this world, it seemed no one could quell his fury once he exploded.
"TEE HEE, Big Brother, don't be angry. I-I'm coming, I'm coming. Please don't be mad," Adele Horne stammered, tears streaking her face as she forced a smile, moving toward Glades Horne like a crawling ant.
"Ten seconds!" Glades Horne barked, not letting her crawl.
The next moment, Adele Horne shot forward like an arrow and stood before Glades Horne.
"Big Brother…" she whimpered, carefully shielding her face with her hands as if terrified he would slap her hard. Tearfully, she looked at Glades Horne's face, which was darker than ink. Adele had never known her brother's face could turn this dark.
Glades Horne reached out his large hand, and Adele Horne immediately screamed. Mila Anderson also stood up anxiously and rushed over. She still couldn't just sit by and watch, terrified that her son would really strangle her daughter.
Glades Horne grabbed Adele, forcefully spun her around to face everyone. His tall figure emitted a frigid, chilling aura, causing the temperature in the entire hall to plummet instantly, as if it had become an ice cellar. Catching sight of his beloved wife still standing with her back to him out of the corner of his eye, his coldness deepened several degrees.
"Speak. What happened to your face?" Glades Horne demanded coldly. If he wanted to protect Julia, he had to make all family members understand what had happened to Adele's face. First, he needed to clear Julia of the accusation of abusing her sister-in-law. Then, he would punish those behind it, demonstrate his complete devotion to his wife, and warn everyone that if anyone dared to slander Julia Bluen again, he would tear them to pieces!
"I…"
More than a dozen pairs of eyes swept toward Adele Horne, causing the usually arrogant and unreasonable girl to stammer, her face turning even redder, flushed with shame.
"I'll give you three minutes to explain. If you don't explain within three minutes, I'll cut out your tongue and feed it to the dogs! Wade, bring the knife!" Glades Horne said viciously, then actually shouted outside, ordering his two bodyguards to bring in a knife and be ready.
Hearing this, everyone's expression changed dramatically.
Julia Bluen was also taken aback.
The old lady stood up and lovingly pulled Julia Bluen to sit by her side. Julia's beaten face was already swollen. Mila Anderson had struck her extremely hard; the bright red imprint of five fingers was clearly visible on her oval face. The old lady's heart ached seeing it and she quickly instructed Aunt Mei to fetch ice to apply to Julia Bluen's face.
"Adele, your brother will really do it! Tell the truth, quickly! What really happened to your face?" Mila Anderson urged desperately, tugging on Adele Horne.
At Glades Horne's harsh words, Adele's mouth fell open in an 'O' shape. When she saw Wade Coleman actually enter with a knife glinting coldly, she began to truly understand. Her big brother loved Julia Bluen with a love higher than the sky and deeper than the sea; it was not something she and Orlando Evans could change or destroy.
Her heart clenched, and she spat out the truth: "I hit myself."
As soon as these words were spoken, varied expressions appeared on everyone's faces.
The other young masters had an "I knew it" look. Sovia Morris was shocked, then her face turned ashen. She had just been hoping to use Adele Horne's situation to defame the Bluen sisters and destroy the relationship between Ruby Bluen and Marcel Horne. She hadn't expected to misjudge so badly, to be deceived by her niece, and to become an accomplice in bullying her niece-in-law. As a military spouse, she should have known better than to be so unable to distinguish right from wrong! Her face flushed with shame and self-reproach, turning red and pale by turns.
