Chapter 286 Living Together (2)_1
The next moment, Julia Bluen buried her face tightly in his embrace.
Holding her and chuckling softly, Glades Horne said in a deep voice, "I've said it before, you're my wife, and I will grant you a lifetime of peace and happiness. No matter who it is, if they hurt you, I won't be lenient with them. Even if she's your aunt and an elder, if you've done nothing wrong, she has no right to blame you."
Finally, they returned to the main topic.
"But she is your aunt, after all, and she has always treated you like her own son. If you treat her like this, embarrassing her, she'll be heartbroken and upset," Julia sighed, her voice muffled against his chest.
"She knows I married you, and she knows I've adored you since we were children. Yet, she insulted you right in front of me, calling you a seductress and accusing you of luring men. How could I tolerate that? She embarrassed and upset me too. Julia, don't let this trouble you anymore. His aunt will come to understand eventually," Glades Horne said, gently tousling her short hair.
"I can't win an argument against you," Julia said, poking his chest lightly.
"You're not the type to be spoiled rotten. Even if I dote on you endlessly, you won't become arrogant because of it. Therefore, I can spoil you and protect you without any restraint," Glades Horne added.
Julia was speechless. He understood her so thoroughly; every action he took was with her feelings in mind.
"His aunt must be heading home to see Grandma by now," Julia mused. Sovia Morris doesn't approve of Marcel Horne and Ruby Bluen being together; she'll inevitably mobilize the entire Horne Family to take her side.
"Ha, even better. Grandma is a sly old fox," Glades Horne chuckled softly. If Sovia Morris returned to the Horne Family Mansion to seek out the old madam, she would only get a lecture. The old madam would surely say something about how children and grandchildren have their own fortunes and should have freedom in marriage. As a daughter-in-law, Sovia Morris wouldn't dare disobey Grandma.
Once Grandma made her stance clear, the others would know what to do.
This would be entirely beneficial for Marcel Horne and Ruby Bluen, with no downsides.
"Let's go to our home tonight!"
Julia smiled and quickly planted a kiss on his handsome face, then opened the car door and got out, as the car had already stopped in front of the company's entrance.
Seated in the car, Glades Horne rolled down the window, a gentle smile on his face and deep affection in his eyes as he watched her enter the company.
He raised a hand to the cheek she had kissed, his smile widening, a little foolishly. Just one kiss, and he was this content.
When it came to love, he was indeed the most endearingly earnest man!
This couple was always so loving and sweet, truly the envy of others.
Meanwhile, Hansen Ruiz, Glades Horne's subordinate and close friend, was thoroughly troubled.
After leaving the Emperor Hotel with Rachel Bailey, he had wanted to take her somewhere quiet to explain things properly. However, she was exceptionally uncooperative. The moment he stopped the car, she would bolt, forcing him to chase her down and maneuver her back inside. After several attempts, he gave up on stopping and just drove her around aimlessly.
"Rachel," Hansen said, a wave of helplessness washing over the usually omnipotent man.
He knew that once she discovered his true identity, she would be even more determined to distance herself from him. He could swear to God he'd never intended to play with her feelings. If he were just playing games, he could have had any woman in T City by now, given his standing. But he wasn't like that. From A City to T City, he'd always conducted himself with propriety. Plenty of women were interested in him, and even more were after his money, but he never got involved in any scandals. Even though his business methods could be ruthless, in matters of the heart, he was an exceptionally good man. He was thirty-five, not some young lad of fifteen or twenty-five. He knew what he wanted. He was serious about Rachel Bailey. Why does she think I'm playing her? She even said she's not good enough for me, told me to stay away, and mentioned not wanting to be forcibly thrown out of T City.
The trouble that old woman had stirred up was a mess he still hadn't managed to clean.
High above, the soft sun seemed to look down with sympathy on the Land Rover as it drove on endlessly.
The cold wind whistled, as if it too pitied Hansen Ruiz.
"I want to get out of the car!" Rachel Bailey stated flatly.
Her small face showed little anger, only a faint detachment.
Reality had been cruelly laid bare before her. He was a chosen one, high as the heavens, while she was mere dust from the earth. They were worlds apart. All she could do was guard her heart and stop herself from falling for him; that was the most rational choice. A two-month acquaintance wasn't enough for her to believe he loved her. If they had been of the same social standing, perhaps she might have believed him. But... it wasn't strange that she felt this way. In real life, many Cinderella stories didn't end in happiness. Just as the fairy tales say, Cinderella marries the prince, but is their life truly happy afterward? The story never elaborates. Marrying into wealth is no fairy tale. A sparrow couldn't become a phoenix just by landing on a high branch. She was a realist; she didn't believe in such things. While her heart was still her own, it was better to pull away sooner rather than later. It would be better for both of them.
"Rachel, can we talk?" Hansen Ruiz slowed the car, his voice gentle.
Rachel Bailey glanced at him, her expression indifferent. "What do you want to talk about?" she asked flatly. "Go on, I'm listening."
