Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law

Chapter 281: The Man Who Dotes on His Wife, Not to Be Messed With (4)_1

He knew she had a barrier in her heart, one she still couldn't cross. His kindness hadn't yet moved her to the point where she could disregard everything and throw herself into his arms. He knew he hadn't done enough, and he would continue to work hard, but...

In Mrs. Ruiz's temporary hotel room, she sat on the couch, her expression incredibly foul. Her face was dark and brooding, streaked with red—an exceptionally hideous mix of red and black that clearly showed her immense anger.

Today's incident had severely embarrassed her, yet she didn't dare throw a tantrum.

To think, I've lived to fifty-eight, what kind of scene haven't I witnessed? Yet, I was completely overwhelmed by Glades Horne's presence! A CEO younger than my own son, possessing such an arrogant aura. I finally understand what 'the new waves push the old waves forward' truly means. Glades Horne guessed my identity and still dared to treat Floyd Thomas like that—he was clearly teaching me a lesson!

Floyd Thomas had just briefly told her about his encounter with Julia Bluen. Thank goodness Floyd only said one rude thing! If he had actually done something to Julia Bluen, he wouldn't just be getting slapped right now; he'd probably be bleeding!

Glades Horne's doting affection for Julia Bluen made Mrs. Ruiz feel envious, even amidst her embarrassment and anger.

We're all women; who wouldn't want to be treasured like a pearl in the palm by a powerful man?

Turning her head, she caught sight of Floyd Thomas's face. It was swollen like a pig's head, red and puffy, with crisscrossing finger marks—a truly horrific sight. A sharp pain pierced Mrs. Ruiz's chest. She immediately ordered Floyd Thomas to get some ice for his face, lest he return to A City looking like that and disgrace the entire Ruiz Family.

Her headache worsened when she saw Hansen Ruiz pulling Rachel Bailey into the room.

Hansen Ruiz wore a mild, gentle smile, but the gentler he appeared, the more anxious Mrs. Ruiz became. She had no idea to what extent her eldest son might erupt.

"Mr. Ruiz, please let go!" Rachel Bailey had been trying to shake off Hansen Ruiz's firm grip, but he wouldn't release her. He insistently pulled her to the couch and pushed her down onto it. Indignant, Rachel refused to sit. As soon as he pressed her down, she shot back up. Hansen pushed again; she stood again.

Hansen Ruiz's expression darkened. As he pressed her down once more, he quickly sat beside her, pulling Rachel Bailey into his arms. He was demonstrating to his mother, right in front of her, that he was committed to Rachel!

If Mom dares to target Rachel again, I'll erupt like a tsunami!

"Eldest Young Master Ruiz, let go of me!" Rachel Bailey was furious at Hansen Ruiz's actions. Mrs. Ruiz's words still echoed in her ears. I, Rachel Bailey, have always held my head high. But today, because of Hansen Ruiz, Mrs. Ruiz bullied me and even tried to forcibly kick me out of T City! My family lives in a remote rural village in T City; I'm technically from T City too. How dare Mrs. Ruiz, an outsider, try to drive me away? How could I not be enraged? My dignity has been utterly trampled!

I've never been ashamed of my rural origins, nor do I consider my farmer parents a disgrace. There's nothing wrong with being farmers; at least they live by their own hard work and provide for their families. Our lives might not be as affluent as those in Upper Class Society, but they aren't bad. Nowadays, villages have rows of small Western-style houses, even villas. Besides, doesn't the whole world depend on the hard work of farmers? Without their labor, where would grains come from? What would the wealthy eat? Can they actually eat money? To look down on people after benefiting from their kindness is simply ungrateful and heartless.

What angered Rachel Bailey most was Mrs. Ruiz's disdain for rural people.

Our ordinary life is natural and relaxed, free from much of the pressure found elsewhere. It possesses a happiness many wealthy households lack.

If I were to get involved with someone like Hansen Ruiz, a 'proud son of heaven,' I would feel immense pressure. Even if I tried my best, the chasm of social status would lie between us. We would never truly be a match.

In fact, a tinge of sadness also touched her heart.

Even though I haven't accepted Hansen Ruiz, I do have a good impression of him. He's always smiling, so warmly and gently, that it's impossible to dislike him.

"If you say one more word like that, I won't hesitate to shut your mouth immediately—with mine," Hansen Ruiz said, his head tilted. His smile was like that of a Maitreya Buddha, showing no outward sign of anger. However, his eyes were inscrutable, and a hint of fury touched the ends of his brows. He gazed intensely at Rachel Bailey. When she glared back at him, furious, he deliberately pursed his lips. Rachel's anger surged; she desperately wanted to unleash her sharp tongue and give Hansen Ruiz a fierce scolding. But seeing his deliberate motion, she was stunned into silence for the first time, clamping her mouth shut in frustration.

Once the woman in his arms quieted, Hansen Ruiz turned to his mother.

"Mom, I want an explanation!" Hansen Ruiz said gently, but his eyes bored into Mrs. Ruiz, making her slightly uncomfortable. I'm his mother, and he's my son. Surely he wouldn't get angry enough to kill me, right? Deciding this, Mrs. Ruiz didn't beat around the bush. "I don't like her," she stated directly, "and I don't want you with her!"

Good. Direct enough, honest enough!

"Mom, are *you* marrying her?" The warmth on Hansen Ruiz's face vanished, replaced by an icy chill. His tone grew colder, and even his gaze on his mother turned frigid. His question hung in the air like a blast of arctic wind on a freezing day—utterly cold.

A hint of embarrassment flickered across Mrs. Ruiz's face as she retorted indignantly, "Hansen, you are the eldest young master of the Ruiz Family! How could your wife be a lowly farmer's daughter? Do you know her family's annual income? Less than 50,000 yuan! What is 50,000 yuan? It's not even enough to buy one of your ties! If you marry her, you're marrying the entire Bailey Family! You'll have to pay for her brother's university education, support her parents, and even her grandparents, who are in their nineties! Don't you think you'd be at a huge disadvantage? Besides, how is she worthy of you? As for her figure..." Mrs. Ruiz's eyes flicked to Rachel Bailey's attractive physique, and she abruptly skipped that part.
