Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law

Chapter 270 How Much Is Your Son Worth (1)_1

He assumed Cosmos was just unlucky.

The Hanley family were transportation magnates, with numerous truck fleets at their disposal. How could they not have an empty container truck available?

Could it be... The Griffin Family?

Nicholas Coldwell was somewhat clever. Even if he couldn't immediately connect it to Glades Horne, he quickly thought of Helen Griffin. And once he thought of Helen Griffin, he naturally understood this was all part of Glades Horne's tactics to strike at them.

The Hanley family's heir and the young lady of the Griffin family were close buddies, often going for drives and playing sports together. It was highly probable that Helen Griffin had asked the Hanley family to give Cosmos Group a hard time.

The Hanley family had so many vehicles, and their business was doing well. Losing Cosmos Group's business wouldn't cause them a loss; by refusing Cosmos Group, they could simply take on other clients, keeping their fleet just as busy. It was Cosmos Group that had grown accustomed to working with the Hanley family, always using their fleet due to their trustworthiness. And precisely because they had always worked with the Hanley family, they had fallen into the habit of only calling them for container trucks right when they needed to ship goods.

"Manager Coldwell, can you think of a solution?" the person on the other end of the call asked. "Otherwise, we should tell the CEO."

Nicholas Coldwell's expression was grim. He hadn't been in the business world for long. While he was starting to understand the intricate web of relationships within it, who would do him a favor? If this truly was Glades Horne's doing, even if he reached out to other transportation companies, they wouldn't help him. Helping him would mean offending Valence Group.

Valence Group also had its own transportation company, but Glades Horne certainly wouldn't help them out of this urgent bind.

"Tell the CEO," Nicholas Coldwell replied coldly. He didn't want to take responsibility for this matter, not unless Dio Powell personally asked him to handle it. If he took it upon himself and failed to solve it, not only would it cost the company money, but Dio Powell would also reprimand him. He had only recently gained Dio Powell's trust and didn't want to jeopardize it over this single issue. If Dio Powell asked him to resolve it, however, that would be a different story. If he handled it well, Dio Powell's reliance on him would increase.

"Okay."

"Wait," Nicholas Coldwell's eyes flickered as he added in a low, cold tone, "when you tell the CEO, don't mention you've already informed me. Understood?" He only hung up after the other party agreed.

After putting down the receiver, he pulled out a large stack of business cards from his drawer, which he had meticulously categorized. He quickly found the transportation section and began calling each company one by one.

Although he had refused to take the lead on this matter, he knew that if Dio Powell couldn't resolve it, the problem would inevitably be thrown back to him, so he had to be prepared. He had to try, no matter what. If all else failed, he would hire fleets from other cities. That would mean higher transportation costs and reduced profits for them, but it's still better than compensating the clients, right?

The five container trucks of goods their company was shipping were all destined for other provinces and other cities. They required both sea and land transport; the container trucks were only responsible for hauling the goods to the T City port, from where they would be shipped by boat to their destination. Once the goods arrived, any further issues were the clients' responsibility to resolve.

Nicholas Coldwell's guess was correct: Dio Powell did indeed toss the problem back to him.

When Dio Powell assigned him the problem, he also mentioned that a meeting would be held in a few days to discuss some personnel changes. This was Dio Powell's way of telling Nicholas Coldwell that if he could solve this issue, he would no longer be a mere department manager but would be promoted to Vice President, on par with Diana Powell.

This promotion is the first step in my plan to take over Cosmos Group.

For the sake of his future, he was determined to solve this problem, even if it meant racking his brains.

So, Nicholas Coldwell continued making calls. He talked until his mouth was dry, but every transportation company claimed their fleets were unavailable.

After countless failures, he finally slumped into his black chair in despair, his handsome face darkened ominously. This was his first time experiencing Glades Horne's methods of attacking enemies; it wasn't the cruelest, but it was certainly enough to leave one utterly exasperated.

「Emerald Garden Building.」

Rachel Bailey hadn't been able to do any business for the past two days because her stall had been vandalized. Her clothes had gotten dirty, and she planned to wash them all, iron them, and then sell them again. She was willing to sell them at a reduced price; anything to avoid a loss. However, the weather was bad, and with the sheer volume of clothes, she had washed for an entire day, but they still weren't dry. She had no choice but to stay home and rest.

Ever since that night when Hansen Ruiz had indirectly confessed and forcefully stolen her first kiss, she had refused to see him and had even added his number to her blocklist.

Hansen Ruiz would sometimes still come looking for her in person, but his visits were brief; he couldn't spend all day waiting outside her rented apartment, so she still had some freedom.

When bored, her only option was to call Julia Bluen. Julia Bluen had returned to the Toy Industry Company headquarters today; her current work focus was on both the Toy Industry Company and the Trading Company. Julia Bluen invited her to the company to hang out. Thinking it was boring at her rented place anyway, Rachel Bailey decided she might as well go see just how valuable Julia Bluen's betrothal gifts were.

So, Rachel Bailey grabbed her purse and went out.

At that moment, a luxury car with A City license plates was parked below the Emerald Garden Building. Floyd Thomas, Mrs. Ruiz's Personal Bodyguard, was in the driver's seat.

He kept his eyes fixed on the main entrance of the Emerald Garden Building.

The Ruiz family had found out where Rachel Bailey lived long ago.

Floyd Thomas had also learned that Rachel Bailey hadn't left her rented apartment all day. His madam was currently waiting at the Emperor Hotel, T City's most luxurious hotel, to meet Rachel Bailey, and had instructed him to come and invite her there.

Rachel Bailey didn't know Mrs. Ruiz had personally come to find her. She hurried down to the first floor and walked towards the roadside, preparing to take a taxi to find Julia Bluen.

She also saw the luxurious car. She didn't recognize Floyd Thomas, so it never occurred to her that the car might be there for her. When she saw Floyd Thomas get out of the car and walk directly towards her, her heart inexplicably lurched, as if something bad was about to happen.

"Excuse me, are you Miss Rachel Bailey?" Floyd Thomas approached Rachel Bailey and asked courteously.
