Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law

Chapter 265 Sweet but Not Cloying (5)_1

The bookstore was very quiet, the spacious area filled only with the soft sounds of people flipping through pages, most of them immersed in a sea of knowledge.

Julia Bluen found the Baby-care Book Area. Standing in front of the bookshelves, she began to meticulously select and browse through the books.

When Glades Horne saw she was actually looking for such books, an incredibly tender expression, one so soft it felt like water could be wrung from it, couldn't help but surface on his face.

She longs to be a mother.

At this thought, Glades Horne became even more enthusiastic about finding and reading books than Julia was.

His tall figure stood before the bookshelves. He'd glance at one book, decide it looked good, and take it. He'd look at another, find it also appealing, and take that one too.

Actually, baby-care knowledge could be found online. Julia just felt that looking at a computer screen wasn't in-depth enough, which was why she preferred physical books.

Seeing her husband beside her, acting like a true bookworm and grabbing every book in sight, Julia's smile deepened.

Soon, Glades had more than a dozen books in his hands. They started to feel a bit heavy, so without turning around, he called out, "Wade Coleman!" Wade immediately stepped forward and took the pile of thick books from him.

The two bodyguards had accompanied Glades Horne on shopping trips before and had been alarmed by his whirlwind style of buying things. Now, seeing him at it again, fear flickered across their faces, but they dared not utter a word.

Other readers were also drawn to Glades's actions.

Immersed in his fervent desire to become a father, Glades forgot everything else. He didn't even notice Julia standing to the side, covering her mouth to stifle her giggles.

Quickly, he swept away all the books about pregnancy from the baby-care shelves. A high wall of books piled up in front of the two bodyguards, almost burying them. Yet the young master, ever prepared, even started grabbing children's books. This astonished many toddlers, who were at the bookstore with their parents, as they watched this tall, handsome uncle take all the books from right in front of them.

"Glades," Julia called, so amused by her husband's whirlwind activity that she nearly burst out laughing.

Glades acted as if he hadn't heard Julia. Upon seeing a copy of "Three Hundred Tang Poems for Children" on the children's bookshelf, his hand shot out to take it. But another small, tender hand reached for the same book; both large and small hands landed on it simultaneously.

Someone is competing with me—oh, no, with my unborn baby—for a book!

Glades turned his head and saw a little girl, about four or five years old, standing beside him. She had pigtails, rounded cheeks, fair skin, and looked adorable. She blinked her big, pretty eyes and said, "Uncle, this is the last one. But it's okay, I'll let you have it, Uncle. Are you buying so many books to do a good deed, to give them away to the older brothers and sisters in poor mountainous areas?"

TEE-HEE. Unable to hold it in any longer, tinkling laughter escaped Julia's lips.

Glades shot a stern glance at his wife, his handsome face flushing faintly with embarrassment. However, aside from Julia, no one else could tell. They only saw his calm composure, giving the impression he would remain unfazed even if Mount Tai collapsed before him.

He released the book and bent down slightly, asking the little girl softly, "Do you like this book?" The girl nodded, and he continued, "Are you in school yet?"

"Uncle, I'm in the senior class of kindergarten. I already know how to read and write numbers. My mom and dad take time every day to teach me, so now I know a lot of words." The girl answered Glades confidently, not at all shy. She even extended her tiny, tender hand to gently touch his handsome face while giggling, "Uncle, you're really good-looking."

Glades's eyebrows twitched. Am I really that good-looking? Even children are charmed by me?

He subtly glanced at his wife, who was still covering her mouth and stifling her laughter, as if worried Julia might get jealous. Julia shot him an amused, chiding look. Seriously? Over a little girl? I'm not *that* petty.

Instead, his tolerance only made her see more clearly his affection for children.

"Uncle won't compete with you for this book. You take it and enjoy," Glades said gently, his expression soft. Aside from the Bluen sisters, he had never been this gentle with an outsider. He picked up the book and handed it to the little girl.

As he stood back up, he saw everyone looking at him with strange and curious eyes.

Turning around, he ordered the two bodyguards with undisturbed composure, "Put the books back where they belong."

He had been completely lost in his fantasy, thinking he was about to become a father. In reality, it was all just wishful thinking; he knew his wife's menstrual cycle. Even if she were pregnant, it would take about a month to know for sure. His eagerness in collecting these children's books was indeed premature.

The two bodyguards didn't dare say a word, their faces strained with an odd expression, as if they wanted to laugh but didn't dare.

They swiftly returned the children's books to their shelves. The bookstore staff came to help, seizing the chance to coax some gossip out of the bodyguards. But the bodyguards' lips were sealed as tight as a clam's; no matter how much the staff coaxed or probed, they wouldn't utter a word.

No way were they going to risk an untimely demise. Who would dare gossip in front of the Young Master? Even if he weren't present, they wouldn't dare speak recklessly. Having followed him for over half a year, they knew his ways. Even if they were replaced in the future, their lips had to remain sealed; otherwise, the Young Master would ensure they couldn't survive in this world.

Glades cast apologetic glances to the parents there, then approached Julia. Taking her hand, he led her back to the Baby-care Book Area. Facing the mountain of books, Glades looked at the woman beside him and softly asked, "Do we need this many?"

"If I were opening a bookstore, then yes," Julia responded playfully, the smile on her lips undiminished.

Glades's eyebrows curved, and he chuckled, well aware that his recent actions must have been quite amusing.
