Chapter 246 Turbulence Arises (2)_1
Orlando Evans was very satisfied with her brother's current performance.
She took out her phone from her LV bag and called Adele Horne. Orlando told her she had booked a room on the second floor and asked when Adele could arrive. Adele replied that she would be there in five minutes.
After hanging up, Orlando Evans looked at Othiel Evans and admonished, "Alland, if you really want to pursue Adele, remember this: in front of her, you must act just as you are now. Don't reveal your usual insouciant, ignorant, and cynical side. Also, starting tomorrow, you'd better go back to working at the company, even if it's just for show. Adele is from a prestigious family; she prefers men with careers. She wouldn't spare a second glance for an ordinary profligate."
Othiel Evans adjusted the red-and-white striped tie beneath his shirt collar and straightened his posture. He assured Orlando, "Sister, rest assured, I know what to do." After speaking, he couldn't resist winking and making faces at Orlando. It frustrated Orlando so much that she wanted to slap him; he had just uttered the words and immediately reverted to his usual self.
When Othiel Evans pursued women, especially when his interest was piqued, he would do anything. This was even more true since Adele Horne was a young lady from the Horne Family. If he could win her over, countless other women would throw themselves at him. After all, if he could captivate a lady of the Horne Family, other women would surely be impressed by his prowess and naturally flock to him.
Orlando Evans then detailed Adele Horne's likes and dislikes to Othiel Evans, urging him to memorize them so he could curry favor with Adele in the future.
Adele Horne had said she would arrive in five minutes, but she ended up being ten minutes late. Orlando was already long accustomed to her tardiness.
When Adele Horne saw Othiel Evans, she paused. For a moment, she didn't recognize him as Orlando's cousin. She sat down beside Orlando, eyed Othiel, and asked Orlando, "Orlando, is he your boyfriend? He's quite handsome."
Othiel Evans maintained a serious expression, which concealed his youthful immaturity and made him look much more mature. Dressed in a suit, he gave Adele Horne the impression that he was some kind of corporate CEO.
When Othiel Evans saw the main target of his conquest appear, he acted aloof, showing no intention of trying to please Adele Horne. He spent his days surrounded by women and was very skillful with them. For a proud and arrogant heiress like Adele, if you try to please her, she won't even notice you. Only by treating her coolly can you catch her attention.
Orlando glanced at Othiel Evans, who was as composed as an old monk, and said to Adele Horne with a smile, "Adele, take a closer look. Do you recognize who he is?"
Adele Horne's large eyes swept over him again, examining him closely. Othiel Evans let her scrutinize him. Noticing that he allowed her to look him over, a faint blush crept onto Adele's face. However, she soon exclaimed in a low voice, "Oh my goodness, it's your cousin! I almost didn't recognize him."
Othiel Evans gave her a faint smile and teased, "It must be because Alland is too ugly, and since you're a person of high status, Sister Adele, you're prone to forgetting."
Adele Horne laughed, clearly in a good mood. She half-rose from her seat, leaned over, and pinched Othiel Evans's handsome face, chuckling, "You little rascal! With this getup, Sister Adele truly didn't recognize you." Othiel Evans used to dye his hair, a habit Adele loathed. She knew Orlando had a cousin and had encountered him a few times at the Evans Family villa. This "kid" always called her "Sister Adele," even though they were only eight months apart in age. She had no strong impression of Othiel Evans from before. Today, however, seeing him again, it was as if he were a completely different person. He had caught her eye, which greatly lifted her spirits.
Adele Horne naturally wouldn't fall for Othiel Evans at first sight. She had seen plenty of handsome men; her own older brother was exceptionally good-looking. At this moment, much like Orlando Evans, she regarded Othiel Evans as a younger brother, which was why she had so naturally pinched his handsome cheek.
Othiel Evans didn't stop her. When she finished pinching his handsome face, it suddenly turned bright red, as if he were shy. This made Adele Horne exclaim that he truly seemed like a different person.
Adele knew a little about Othiel Evans's reputation as a playboy. How could someone who constantly flirted with women possibly blush? Yet, Othiel was genuinely blushing now, which made her feel he really had changed.
Orlando Evans was very satisfied that Adele Horne had taken notice of Othiel Evans. She knew her scheme was now progressing. She didn't care when it would come to fruition; as long as it was moving forward, that was all that mattered.
"Adele, Alland has now started working at the Evans Family company. He's a high-ranking white-collar professional now, so naturally, he's matured," Orlando Evans said with a gentle smile. "In the past, he just had a childish disposition, you know? Kids love to play."
Adele Horne glanced at Othiel Evans again and smiled. "No wonder he seems like a different person."
Othiel Evans put on an embarrassed expression once more.
After they had chatted and laughed for a while, the waiter finally brought over the dishes Orlando Evans had ordered.
The three of them ate and chatted.
During the meal, Othiel Evans didn't say much; he had to maintain his composed image. However, he took special care of Adele Horne, placing her favorite dishes onto her plate every few minutes. Adele was busy talking to Orlando and hardly served herself any food. Yet, no matter how much she ate, her bowl never seemed to empty. When she glanced up, she saw Othiel silently adding food to her plate. She smiled at him, a dazzling smile that made Othiel's eyes sparkle.
Adele Horne was naturally attractive; if not for her terrible temper, suitors would be lining up all the way to Beijing for her.
Orlando Evans deliberately brought up Glades Horne and Julia Bluen.
The moment Julia Bluen was mentioned, Adele Horne said resentfully, "She insists on going to work every day now. My mother doesn't want her to; Mom wants her to stay home, take care of her health, and have children for my brother. But she doesn't listen to Mom at all! She even says that women should be independent and not always rely on men. It infuriates Mom! If my brother didn't protect her, Mom would be desperate to kick her out of the house. If she's not home, how can I make my move? Am I supposed to call her and ask her to come home to play ball with me? Fat chance she'd come back!"
Previously, Orlando Evans had instructed Adele to play badminton with Julia Bluen in the Yard. The plan involved hitting the shuttlecock into a tree, then having Adele climb the tree. Orlando would then exploit Adele's acrophobia—her fear of heights—making her too scared to climb down. This way, Orlando could create a situation where their mother would find an excuse to scold Julia, thereby also stirring up conflict between their mother and Julia.
