Prince of Gluttony: Born from Betrayal

Chapter 67: Challenge the Authority

Paigos' mood had reached an all time low. One of his targets to sate his lust had been spoiled by another man and the wimpling brother of his was standing up to him.

To make matters even worse, for a second, the wimps little mutt even successfully intimidated him. He had been intimidated by an inferior demi human bitch! The thought alone made his fists clench and his jaw grind with rage.

Paigos' nostrils flared as he tried to shove the humiliation from his mind. The wimpish brother and his tiny mutt had no idea what they were dealing with. He had built his reputation on fear, on the certainty that no one would dare oppose him, and yet here they were, standing in his way, daring to challenge him.

The room seemed to shrink around him, every shadow a threat, every sound a challenge. His claws flexed at his sides, the urge to strike nearly unbearable. The wimpling brother, trembling yet defiant, stared back with that insolent spark in his eyes. Paigos felt it like a knife twisting in his chest.

He had never been bested by someone so weak. He could not let this go. The taste of failure burned in his mouth, acrid and bitter. Slowly, deliberately, he stepped forward, each movement measured to radiate menace. He was not just a predator; he was a storm waiting to break, a force of pure rage honed by years of dominance.

And yet the small dog had dared to bark at him first, had dared to draw the line where he expected obedience. Paigos clenched his fists harder. His mind raced, plotting, calculating. There would be consequences. There had to be consequences. Those who crossed him did not survive to do it twice.

Paigos' smirk faltered the moment Cain spoke, replaced by a flicker of disbelief that quickly morphed into rage. "An Ifrit Elixir?" His voice shot through the room like a whip. "That's… impossible!"

The crowd froze, jaws dropping in unison. Murmurs rippled outward, incredulous. The Ifrit Elixir was legendary, a rarity whispered about in hushed tones and sought after by nobles and warlords alike. Most had never seen one, and even fewer had ever possessed it. To hear Cain claim he had received one was shocking beyond measure.

Paigos' eyes darkened, his fists clenching at his sides. "No," he spat, his voice low but trembling with fury. "It must be a fake! There's no way… She must have some nefarious purpose!"

His hand rose, regal and commanding, as he attempted to invoke his Princely authority. "By my right, I demand—"

"Keep your greasy hands off my woman!" Cain cut him off, his voice like iron. He stepped forward, eyes blazing, and the room seemed to shrink around the confrontation. His tone brooked no argument, no compromise.

The crowd went utterly silent, stunned speechless. Paigos' pride, built over years of fear and dominance, was being trampled without even a hint of hesitation. Cain's posture, calm yet fierce, radiated absolute certainty. He did not flinch, did not falter.

Paigos' jaw tightened, and his eyes flared with unbridled fury, but the reality of Cain's defiance and the impossible truth of the Ifrit Elixir left him momentarily speechless. The crowd could feel the tension, the clash of power and authority, and for the first time, Paigos' dominance seemed fragile.

Cain didn't step back. He didn't need to. With a single glare, he had already claimed victory over Paigos' ego, leaving the would-be tyrant trembling with rage in front of a stunned audience.

Paigos' fury swelled, hotter and more corrosive than ever. For a brief, humiliating moment, he had believed he could intimidate a mere inferior creature. But the small wolf-eared girl at Cain's side was no simple animal. Her ears twitched with awareness, her sharp eyes gleamed with intelligence, and the aura she radiated was far from meek. She was Jayden, and in this form she was a living embodiment of defiance.

Paigos' fists clenched at his sides, the instinct to strike nearly overwhelming, yet something inside him recoiled. He had faced humans, demi-humans, even warriors of renown, and none had dared challenge him so openly. And now, a girl with wolf ears, a form he had assumed harmless, had dared to stand before him, fierce and unwavering. That realization alone twisted his stomach with shame and rage.

The crowd noticed the shift in him. Paigos' usual aura of dominance seemed fragile, his confidence cracking under the weight of his own assumptions. He had underestimated her, underestimated Cain, underestimated the impossible. His nostrils flared as he tried to shove the humiliation from his mind, but it clawed at him relentlessly.

"You…" Paigos hissed, voice trembling with barely controlled fury, "you have no right…" Every word faltered under the truth of what he faced. Her presence alone challenged everything he believed about power. Jayden's gaze met his, sharp and fearless, and Paigos felt it pierce him like ice. She did not flinch, did not lower her eyes. The room seemed to shrink, the air itself thick with tension.

Cain stepped forward slightly, hand still resting lightly on her shoulder. "She has every right," Cain said firmly. "And if you step closer, you will face her." The calm confidence in his voice cut through Paigos' anger, igniting a storm of fear beneath the surface. The crowd's reaction intensified, murmurs swelling as they began to recognize the true significance of what they were witnessing.

Jayden's wolf ears twitched again, a subtle motion that belied the ferocity coiled in her small frame. She bared her teeth slightly, a warning Paigos could not ignore. It was no longer a simple standoff. He had been challenged by someone whose power he could not measure, whose presence alone defied every expectation. His mind raced, grappling with the impossible: a wolf-eared girl, loyal to Cain, standing as an equal threat to his authority.

The Ifrit Elixir still burned in his thoughts, but now it was overshadowed by the impossible reality at his feet. Paigos' body shook, a storm of fury and disbelief warring with his desire to maintain control. Every instinct screamed for violence, yet every rational thought warned that a single reckless move would leave him exposed, humiliated further before the entire crowd.

"You think you can stop me?" Paigos demanded, fists raised, trying to radiate menace despite the panic rising in his chest. "You think your little tricks, your animals, your insolence can undo me?"

Jayden took a step forward, small yet commanding. Her sharp eyes locked with his, and for the first time, Paigos felt the full weight of her presence. This was not a pet, not a child, not a simple servant. She was Jayden, in a form that mocked his assumptions and defied his arrogance. Her every movement radiated power, precision, and the certainty that she would not yield.

Cain's voice cut through again, calm and unwavering. "You are mistaken if you think size or form makes someone weak. Strength does not always come from what you expect. Jayden is more than you perceive, and together, we will not allow you to harm anyone."

Paigos' jaw tightened, rage boiling over. He had never been bested by someone so small, so seemingly insignificant. His body trembled as he stepped forward, fists clenched, eyes blazing. The crowd held their collective breath, sensing the inevitable clash.

Paigos' fists shook, every nerve screaming for release. He had trained his whole life to command fear, to dominate, to bend others to his will. Yet here, before him, a girl in a wolf form and a man of unshakable certainty had rendered him powerless. His pride, built over years of dominance, threatened to crumble entirely.

He inhaled sharply, attempting to regain composure. "You… you will pay," he spat, every word dripping with venom. "No one defies me and lives."

Jayden tilted her head slightly, ears twitching. Her voice, calm but edged with steel, carried across the tense room. "We will face whatever comes together. You are not the first to underestimate me, and you will not be the last to regret it."

Cain's hand remained on her shoulder, steady and reassuring. "Stand down if you value your life, Paigos. This is your only warning."

The small wolf-eared girl, someone he had dismissed as a simple mutt, was now the focal point of his humiliation and fear. Every instinct he had known failed him. Her eyes were sharp, calculating, and filled with a courage that he could not touch. Paigos' mind raced, desperately searching for a way to reclaim control, but every option seemed impossible.

The tension in the room thickened, a tangible weight pressing against him. The crowd leaned in, aware that they were witnessing a confrontation that would be remembered for years to come. Paigos' dominance, once absolute, now seemed fragile, cracked by the impossible defiance of Jayden and the unwavering presence of Cain.

Paigos staggered slightly, his rage colliding with the reality before him. He had underestimated a wolf-eared girl, underestimated Cain, underestimated the impossible. The Ifrit Elixir was no longer the only source of shock and fear. It was Jayden's presence, her courage, and her readiness to act that had upended his world.
