Prince of Gluttony: Born from Betrayal

Kiyomi was the first to hear the news about the boy from Paigo's faction who was now in the emergency ward.

While not close to him, Kiyomi was familiar enough with the student body that she was able to put a face to the name after only a few seconds.

Pale white hair, somewhat handsome features and dark brown eyes. That's what she remembered of him in passing but as soon as she recalled that, someone else came to mind matching that description: Cain.

On a good day and with the right conditions, Kiyomi could see Tobias being mistaken for Cain if the other party wasn't paying attention.

Knowing it was none of her business, she couldn't resist the urge to swing by the Emergency ward, to see if she was right.

When she arrived, she was surprised to find Cain already at Tobias bedside with Jayden and a new girl.

She was about to crack a joke, asking who the new girl was by comparing her and the others to trading cards but the words died in her throat.

She knew that Tobias' condition was bad but she had no idea it was this bad.

"Oh my god...." her voice slipped from her lips but only the blue haired girl turned her head. Neither Jayden or Cain turned around, instead continuing to stwre at Tobias who was barely clinging to life.

"He did this...." Cain's voice was flat, as if he was commenting on the weather.

"Paigos was the one who did this. Someone I am meant to call my brother did this to someone who swore loyalty to him. What did he do to deserve this? A passing resemblance to me?"

For a moment, Cain had wondered if the Pseudo skill was the cause for this but Gaius had stopped that delusion in its tracks before it could gain any traction.

Pseudo skills didn't change behaviours, they only amplified existing tendencies. Paigos was not by any means a victim.

Cain had to endure a sickening sensation deep within his guts as he was forced to come to terms that his brother by blood was even worse than he thought.

Jayden who was at Cain's side could see that he was trembling slightly. His fists were clenched at his sides.

She could somehow tell that what was racing through his mind in that moment.

Paigos needed to be stopped. By any means necessary.

"What are we going to do Captain?"

Kiyomi's voice lacked the playfulness she usually carried. She too couldn't condone those sorts of actions and would follow whatever Cain said.

"When we encounter him in the tournament. No matter what the judges say or try to do. Paigos must die."

When Cain opened his mouth again, his voice was cold and lacking emotion, almost as if he had become a machine.

Zara's eyes widened in shock while Kiyomi and Jayden merely nodded in acknowledgement.

"Hold up! You plan on killing him? While he is big and ugly, he is still a powerful student. His defence is top notch and his power is insane! Plus we don't even know the format of the tournament yet. It could be team matches or one on ones!"

Zara was panicking. This was an Academy, killing a fellow student accidentally during a tournament like this was a rare occurence but intentionally planning to kill someone was unheard. Especially since the other party was also a prince!

Turning to seeing the blue haired girl acting as if her head was going to fall off at any second placed a hand on her head and ruffled her hair with a slight smile on his face.

"Don't worry Zara. I can't tell you the details now but when things settle, there won't be any backlash on our side. "

Zara was confused at Cain's cryptic wording as she stared at him with wide doe like eyes. Seeing her looking at him so innocently after causing him multiple headaches this morning, Cain couldn't resist the urge to tease her.

His lips curved up into a mischievious grin as he remarked "Seriously, don't worry about it. I will make sure that your head doesn't roll for attempted Regicide or lèse-majesté if we fail....or at least I will try to. Actually no promises on that."

Zara was quiet for a moment as her brain tried to register Cain's words. Her eyes began to fill up with tears as she let out a pitiful cry of disbelief.

"Ehhhhhhhhhhh?!" She squeaked in fear but immediately after, she was hugged from behind by Jayden who pouted slightly in Cain's direction.

"There's no need to be so mean to her. Can't you see that she is nearly in tears? Dont worry Zara, Cain is just messing with you."

Cain simply shrugged his shoulders as if it was no big deal while Zara still looked like she was about cry at any second.

'How could he be so mean?!' She thought with indignation. Even if he had given her enough money to buy 2 years supply of gourmet instant noodles, he was still going too far!

"Oh my~! So it wasn't Cain who seduced this little cutie but it was you lil Wolfie~? I didn't know you had it in you!"

The teasing lilt caused Jayden's ears to flatten against her head in annoyance as she directed a soft glare at Kiyomi.

"I didn't seduce anyone you Fox! This is Zara and she is my friend!"

Zara stiffened upon hearing Kiyomi's wording but nodded her head when Jayden spoke. She knew that Kiyomi was part of Cain's group but she had no idea about their relationship and didn't want to upset the Kitsune if she could help it.

"Yeah! Jayden and I are total besties now!" Zara chimed in as soon as Jayden had finished speaking.

"Didn't this 'friendship' start with a bribe....shit!"

Cain's comment slipped from his lips before he could stop himself. He had made it in front of the wrong person.

Kiyomi's eyes gleamed with utter amusement as she held out her hand to Zara.

"Tell me more about this.....bribe~! I will treat you to some ice cream if you do."

Zara's eyes were wide with rapt attention as Kiyomi wormed her way into the girls heart. Cain blamed his big mouth as Kiyomi, Zara and Jayden left the Infirmary together.

Cain could already imagine the jokes that would come as a result of this slip up. He was starting to question if he really made his way out of the abyss or did he die back then and he was actually in hell.
